Re: GSP v. Hardy - UFC 111 in Jersey

Hardy was in enough trouble already, now GSP has a new training partner...

Gegard Mousasi wants to run with the best.

Strikeforce's light heavyweight champion will join UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre's training camp this week to assist in the French Canadian's preparations for his March 27 bout against Dan Hardy at UFC 111 in Newark, N.J.

"He's a phenomenal athlete," said Mousasi. "I know he's a great athlete that tries to improve himself every time... it's a great opportunity for me to learn a lot from him."
    There's a vid interview too: http://www.sherdog.com/videos/recent...He-Trains-2183

Can we get a tag team match? GSP & Mousasi vs. Silva & Machida?

FYI, Part 1 of UFC Primetime: GSP v. Hardy premiers March 10.

Also, just caught GSP in an Under Armour commercial with Brandon Jennings, Michael Phelps and Dez Bryant. MMA is becoming mainstrea.

I saw that commercial also. First there was Rampage in the Nike commercial and now GSP. Pretty cool.

GSP could be and should be the guy to help get it there, too. I feel like he represents the sport very well.

Completely agree. GSP seems like the perfect "Face of the UFC" in my opinion, and he seems like the kind of guy that would absolutely love that responsibility.

And, as I type this, I am finally seeing the commercial for the first time. Pretty bad ***.

His voice is so damn annoying though.

I can't stand it for some reason.

I disagree. Maybe the face for Canada. I think Americans would appreciate, (and I don't like this guy) Forrest Griffin. Not a flashy guy, plays the underdog role well and Americans love under dogs.

no way, Americans may love under dogs but they dont like guys that get KOd then run out of there as fast as they possibly can.

did you hear the cheer he got when he came out against Ortiz? America also has a short memory. why do you think he was the cover boy for 2009?

Forrest is by FAR the most popular American MMA fighter today. The only american that is close in popularity is Chuck. The difference is Chuck has no personality.

Depends on how you define popularity. I don't think too many people who don't follow MMA know who Forrest is, but everyone knows Chuck.
Brock is also up there because of his WWE history and he can carry a PPV on his own. I'm not sure Forrest can carry a PPV on his own.

Also, there is a thread over at Sherdog that is pretty cool. Everyone has to chose one fighter as their absolute favorite fighter and they are tallying them up. As of right now Wand is the clear cut leader with 42 votes, followed by GSP and Fedor each with 33.

Crazier things have happened e.g - serra vs gsp I
but i think gsp has this, he has mentally conditioned and resolved himself to be a better fighter not only physically but mentally as well

                            I can attest to this.
I'm just starting to get into UFC/MMA and even in my most ignorant days I knew who Chuck Lidell was. I couldn't say the same about Forrest. The only thing I knew is that he had a very entertaining bout in the finale of the first Ultimate Fighter reality show. I couldn't pick him out of a lineup and knew virtually nothing about him until just recently (wikipedia is awesome )

Yeah - dude took on Alves with absolutely no problems. If he can take on a guy like that and work him, he should have no problems against Hardy.

                                FYI:

I have an extra ticket to UFC 111 because my friend cant make it. Before I put it up on Ebay, I wanted to give my fellow OS MMA fans the chance to buy the ticket for face value ($200). The section is 132 and its Row 1. PM me if interested.
