    Re: The Bellator Thread

Lombard really needs to be in the UFC or Strikeforce just so we can figure out how good he is. His stand up looked great as always and he has some tremendous power, but the ground game really was lacking. He seemed content to sit in guard and throw elbows, the only time he gained better position was when Shlemenko rolled to his back, and even then Lombard never went to throw hooks in when he had the opportunity multiple times. He was just content to let Shlemenko up and then toss him back to the ground and get back in his guard.

Rebney was calling out Strikeforce again after the show wanting a Jacare/Lombard match. After watching tonight I'd feel pretty confident about Jacare winning that match. I just wonder if Bellator lasts long enough to let some of these cross promotion matches with Strikeforce happen.

Its funny how Coker was all about cross promotion when it came to the UFC but now that its a smaller company wanting to cross promote with Strikeforce he doesn't seem as interested.

To be fair, Bellator has more to gain from all this, as their events draw like 1k people and their TV deal blows. Strikeforce has never really been shy to co-promote and share talent though, as they've done it with Bodogfight, EliteXC, Dream, Affliction, and M1. Setting up cross promotional fights is never easy, as Pride and the UFC were close for years on a Wand/Chuck super fight.

Even if Strikeforce wanted to do it today, Showtime probably has some influence, and Dream may request Melendez for an Aoki rematch at Dynamite anyways.

News came out a couple of days ago but it looks like Bellator has a new TV deal with FX that will show all of their events live. FSN will still have shows also but they will be on tape delay. Excellent news that their TV deal is better, now its just a matter if Bellator can survive past a 4th season.

Well scratch that previous post. Bellator officially announced a TV deal with MTV2.
