Not really. You knock the cpu out 95% of the time with out power punches or kicks. Aside from that you can do invites at any point that you want. I got a leg kick after I got all my stats to 30. I picked up a slam at 50 to get better training. Then I got to 70 and now I do nothing but learn moves. Im trying to keep this simple. Im 24-3 on expert. My losses came from submissions not a lack of moves.

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
I learned midway through my career that it's just best for me to spar if I want to improve my ground game. Once I get that up to a decent level then I'll add some of the ground moves.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
Exactly, that's what I'm gonna do. And don't even bother with takedown and GnP in sparring sessions. Even on the highest level, your sparring partner is VERY easy to takedown. And while it's not a bad method, slams are MUCH better for points. Just clinch, slam, get up, repeat.
Also, I have a CAF question: Can you use CAFs in online RANKED matches?
I'm basically slamming and submitting 3-4 times per session and getting 180+ points each time with just level 2.
Much better method so far.
*edit: I'm actually clinching, slamming, and submitting each time now. Last time I think I got 4 subs (almost 5) off and I got 244 points with level 2. Crazy
Also, I'm a slamming and submission machine right now. If the guy I'm fighting wastes any stamina, I can clinch and slam him and slap a Kimura on like it's nothing. I'm still in the WFA, though. I'm 7-1 with 1 submission of the night. I just submitted the guy who KO'd me for my only loss. Guy kept throwing this kick that looked like a leg kick but went to the head. I fell for it 3 times and got KO'd.
I also just got invited to the UFC as I'm typing this. First fight will be against Jason Brilz (I had to choose between him and Jon Jones... Hard choice...)
I'm playing Expert Light Heavy Weight. I'm just building my guy to be fun. My stats are all at 50, and then the 3 attributes at 30 still. I'm sparring to get points here and there, and I'm mostly learning moves. I've got a MT body kick, left quick superman punch, suplex to half-guard, body lock, then that nasty Kimura and a good RNC that I leveled to 2 and eventually will get to 3.
I'm contemplating which Left Head Kick to get now.
Also - anyone know how you unlock Camp logos? I've gotten all the sponsors previously, but I've no idea what you have to do to unlock camps - I assume train with them, but how many times, and in what fashion? Do you need to learn certain moves or something?Last edited by MC Fatigue; 06-09-2010, 11:50 AM.Comment

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
I'm officially having a blast with my career.
Str/Sp/Car - 100, 80,80
All my stats at 70.
What I've been doing is looking at it as a chance to build the type of fighter I want, as opposed to getting stats where I want them. I got them to 70 for the cap just because and then I maxed the big 3 out just because (and have been keeping them there).
However - my big time is spent at camps learning moves I want to know to determine how I fight, and it's been extremely fun. I decided to start as a standup guy and I learned the quick superman punch and Liddell's straight. I also did a leg kick and the MT body whip kick.
From there I decided to go to ground stuff because as I got higher up, I was having trouble with wrestlers getting on top. So I went with submissions and rubber guard. Right now I'm a submission machine.
I'm 24-2-0 with my two losses coming to some guy from the WFL (who I beat afterward) and Matt Hamill. Matt was my 2nd or 3rd UFC fight and he just overwhelmed me with his stand up. He was throwing bombs and he just kept catching me. Got me against the cage and then just dropped me with one shot. Since then I've got unbeaten. I also had the chance to challenge him, but at that point I was above his level and decided to let it go.
I became LHW champ and now moved up to HW where I'm on a 3 win streak over Herring, Carwin, and Mir. All via Gogoplata. It's become my signature move. My guy keeps it standing until my opponent takes me down. At that point I work the rubberguard and take them out. I got submission of the year with it just this past year.
My next fight is Velasquez for the #1 contender spot. Current champ is Lesnar who is 16-8.
Here's a rundown of my moves. They're all level 2 or 3 at this point.
L Quick Superman Punch
Chuck's Right Straight
Strong Left Leg Kick
Kimura from half-guard Top
Arm Triangle from Mount
Anaconda from Sprawl Top
RNC from Back Mount Face Up
Triangle from Open Guard Down
Gogoplata from Rubberguard (my signature move)
Jude Hip Throw to Side Control from Double Underhooks Defense
Rubberguard
Left Jab to Sway Back
R Muay Thai Snap Kick
Suplex to Half-Guard from Body Lock Offense
Body Lock from Double Underhooks Offense
Peruvian Neck Tie from Back Side Control
Pull Guard from Single Collar Tie
Most of them are 3 - some are still at 2 because it's good enough.
My Awards Include:
1 KO of the Night
7 Submissions of the Night
1 Submission of the Year Award
1 Fighter of the Year Award
I've got 4 title fights with 3 defenses. All at LHW before moving up to HW now.
As it is - I'm finding the fun part is deciding how your fighter fights and not so much worrying about specific stats. I might do another career where I keep things at 30, 50, 70 for more of a challenge, though. And I won't max out the big 3 attributes.
I've kept this guy as a powerstriker like Thiago Silva sort of. Nothing fancy, just big straight punches with a lot of power.
Next time I'm going the fancy route and picking up spanning kicks, flying knees, and crazy elbows.Last edited by MC Fatigue; 06-09-2010, 03:25 PM.Comment

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
When you start to notice the champion of your division NOT fighting anyone until you become the #1 contender, yea that takes alot away from the game.
I am 6 years into my LW career and BJ Penn is 16-5. He hasn't fought since the first event in career.Last edited by delspf; 06-10-2010, 03:09 PM.Can't believe I been a member here this longComment

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
The stats decay is annoying and the whole getting submission moves thing is just unreal. 2 of my loses came from submissions and the one came from Chris Leben counter lucky punch.Comment

You will see the major flaws in it once you play through it.

I did notice low ranked fighters (15-20) not getting any fights alsoComment

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
Yeah the funny thing about that Chris Leben fight was I was dominating his *** the whole fight. Both his eyes were jacked up. Then right before the round ends to go into the 3rd, he sways and hits me with a straight punch that looked like a damn jab and my guy drops to his side. I was like WTF ?
The only punch he lands on me the ENTIRE fight and I get KO'ed by it ? SMH A year later I called him out, bull rushed his *** into the cage and just started kneeing the hell out of him and then elbowed him to the dome a few times KO'ing him 1 minute into the 1st round.
These flash subs and flash ko bs is annoying. All my losses came from flash BS.Comment

Re: Official Career Mode Thread
Does anyone know a way to force myself to retire?
I couldn't see anything in the menu's.
My fighter has peaked and now I'll decline because I won't be able to keep up with the stat decay which is now very accelerated. I'm also champ with 9 straight defences 32-6 or something like that, and a lock for the HOF. I've got nothing left to prove and really want to retire and retain a decent CAF for online.
I'm all ears (eyes)Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment
