    Re: Official Career Mode Thread

Finished Career finally on Advanced. By the end of it, I was subbing my sparring partner 2-3 times a spar and racking up nearly 200 points each time. I ended up with an 86 OVR. Everything 90 or more, except my clinch skills. Maxed out attributes. Wish I had more time to go to camps though, stat decay discouraged going to camps IMO - because you would be down a handful of points while you were learning new moves.

My biggest gripe is not being able to change my Nickname, my Victory Celebration (and all other animations), and my Skin Complexion (messed up a bit and wanted to fix it). Really upset I can't go and fix these.

I thoroughly enjoyed the journey though. Good stuff, albeit repetitive eventually.

PS: STFU Rachelle Leah, you're beautiful but seriously stop emailing me.

      Re: Official Career Mode Thread

Has anyone notice fighters ranked 15-20 are not getting any fights???

This and the fact the UFC list is shorter than last year (thanks to the pointless WFA; fighters ranked 21-30 are in WFA)

May be the reason the fight cards are so unrealistic...

Ortiz fought 5 times in a year (Im in year 2) while Uno has not been on a card yet...

Wow... lost my first fight and now sitting at 5-1 in the welterweight division on expert difficulty. I feel that I didn't deserve that loss at all. I took control of him the entire match. I got him with leg kicks to the point where I got at least 15 takedowns. I even rocked him with a ducking hook, but he survived it. The only thing he did to me was reverse a clinch slam and took full mount. He didn't even land a clean punch as I blocked both punches he threw and transitioned out quickly. I don't see how I lost in a SPLIT decision..

The banner is a huge disappointment. I saw that I could make one and thought it would be cool to put certain sponsors on it but found out all you can pick from is some lame logos.

Anyway, I have something shameful to admit. I've been doing a career on beginner for the sole purpose of being able to create some decent main menu CAFs - like with all the unlocked sponsor equipment and with some good stats...

Anyway I'm something like 16-1-0 right now... I freaking got knocked out by Clay Guida. Guy tagged me with an uppercut and put my lights out... on BEGINNER.

I seriously felt shame and embarrassment.

Anyway - I think once the career gets going, it gets better. The decay in stats still really, really sucks - but I'm just leaving things at 50 and 70 and that's it. The main 3 attributes are all at 70, and then I've got my skills mostly at 30, a few at 50, and a few at 70 (sub offense at 0, because it's pointless).

Every once in a while I just go learn a new move. I've got the elbow on the ground and a big hook standing up.

I'm a little curious how in 16 fights I've not once gotten KO of the night. You'd think by chance I'd get it somewhere along the way.

I just got my first draw ever against GSP. I thought he had me the first 2 rounds so I went all out to try to end it in round 3. I ducked one of his hooks and knocked him on his back and took the open guard up position with like 10 seconds left to go. I rocked him and he was dazed, but he was saved by the bell. Judge 1 gave it 28-27 to me and I was like, Yes! Judge 2 gave it 28 28. I was like oh man I barely won. Judge 3 gave it 28 28 too so I get the draw instead. My record now sits at 20-8-1 on expert.

I got asked to do a Title vs. Title fight, and I accidentally declined. I haven't been asked since, do they ask you again?

                    Re: Official Career Mode Thread

I would stay away from title vs title fights because it leads to all kinds of bugs.

Overall I am let down ALOT by this "career mode". It was said to have been overhauled the most but honestly, it is the same as 09s but longer. It feels like this release build was not the original build. Something happened to the final build and they had to push out a previous build.

Fighters do NOT age. By the end of my MW career I was fighting Hendo and Marquardt in my last 5 fights. In 2022, they would be in the mid to late 40s. Last 10 fights all of the guys would be in ther 40s.

This is the same thing as 09. Fighting the same fighters. The only area I actually saw that a fighters age has changed in career was at the tale of the tape on who I am fighting. Yet at the match up screen before that where you see everyone on that card, they all had their real life age regardless of what year in career you were in.

So was the fact that fighters not aging & really retiring have to do with the total absence of the AI having a progression system in terms of skills? I don't see how you can call this a career mode without that. Its 2010. Sporting games with this mode had this back in the 90s.

Now I mentioned the previous build & release build thing because of issues like that above. Along with some other ones. Which I will mention below.

My Trainer: Is about as useful as a waterbed on a boat. I have not seen him change or make one new comment regarding moves or technique ( i think those are the middle two options. Once you get your physical traits to 30, he does nothing but tell you that you are looking good. As for the next opponent thing, it is pretty random that you find out anything about the guy, maybe his name would be helpful and his fighting styles. I felt this was unfinished.

News & Info: Looks like something you would see graphically from TEW ( sim based wrestling game ) Honestly, this is bad. No option to even delete emails? The ranking system never changes except for the title holder & your fighter. You know this would be a good place to see the results of fighters last 3 fights or something. If someone actually does retire you could see it here.

Friends & Rvials: Again...unfinished. It seems to have no bearing in career at all. There for asthetic purposes it looks. Unfinished.

Stat Decay: Good idea, poorly implemented. I shouldnt go from a black belt in JJ to a purple because I didn't spar for 4 weeks. Decay is too fast.

Game follows you: Haven't seen much of this. Maybe a line or two from Rogan during the 1st round of a match. Haven't noticed AI fighters adjusting to my style either.

Interviews: About as minimal in the reply department as you can get.

CAFs: What happened to CAFs starting out with a certain base skill set depending on what fighting style you chose?

The above plus the random lock ups when fighting, loading screens, learning new moves at some camps, the title & weight class switching. I would give this career mode and i use that term loosely, a 5 at best out of 10.

                    What I would imrpove?
-AI progression system. Fighters would progress/regress skills, suffer injuries. THIS is a career mode. This is where aging would play a factor.
-If fighters were on a losing streak, 3 in a row, usually they get fired. This could happen, you could have them in "fiction based orgs" where you could see results & rosters off in the news and info section.
-Friends and Rivals would work. Would open up more options at gyms. I wouldnt be able to train at some gyms period. The more of a friend I am with someone, you could work it where learning new moves would help progression for stats involved in that move. Say I am learning a new kick. If I am max friend with that person/gym, it would put progression points or prevent decay for kick striking.
-My trainer would actually work if he told me who my next opponent was, his fighting style, the results of his last few fights. If he gave me suggestions on new moves to look towards learning, this is where the game follows you could come in. Ok I kick alot, he could suggest bumping up a level in a kick I use more often or something.

This is just stuff off the top of my head. THQ had 2 years at least to figure this stuff out.

For the game follows you section, I think it only applies to the method you used to knock someone out in the past couple fights. I remember kneeing people against the cage to win a couple fights in a row. The next fighter later prevented me from clinching him when we were near the cage. It's still not what I or anyone else expected though.

Yea, I'm thinking I might've wasted a couple of dollars on this one. I was expecting a very robust career mode. Something that would top FNrnd4, as this is a later release ya know. Didn't happen though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think the A.I. progress/regress, get older, change rankings, retire, etc. A career mode that only focuses on YOUR fighter is NOT where its at. It needs to be dynamic and the stat decay, etc needs to affect the CPU fighters also. I dont think it does.

                        Not my style.

^ yea the AI doesnt progress. Thats why i listed it as an improvement. That is what I was expecting out of this game when they said career mode was overhauled the most & fighters aged and retired.

This is why I think something happened with the release build. Otherwise I have no idea what THQ was doing.

I won the LW title, declined to move up to WW, but was eventually forced after several successful defenses. Went on to win the WW strap, only to defend it once and be forced to move back down. :[ WTF?

I won finally won the LHW title against Rampage in my career. My overall record was 30-12 going into my first title defense which was against Rua (my first fight against him). Rua ended up submiting me with less that 10 seconds left in the 3rd round. :o After that I got knocked back down to 6th in the ranking's and have a bout against Rich Franklin next. I'm 1-0 against him with my win coming my a 3rd round KO.

My 12 losses were to the following:

                              3- in the WFA
2- Krzysztof Soszynski (never beat him)
2- Matt Hamil (never beat him)
1- Brandon Vera (ended up beating him twice)
1- Luis Cane (beat him three times since losing the first one)
1- Forrest Griffin (never faced him again--yet)
1- Rampage Jackson (beat him for the title in our rematch)
                              1- Shogun Rua

So as you can see I'm having a great time with career so far. I was hoping to defend the title a few times then move up to HW but, I think that hope is looking a little grim at the moment. :o
