Honestly, this is a very fun game, but undisputed does a lot of things better than ea sports mma. After the playing demo, It's kinda clear that undisputed is the more deep, well rounded and polished game. The good thing is that because i'm a big mma fan, i can still enjoy this game for the things it does right. I'll definetly get this when it comes out.

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Everything out of my mouth is negative because this is a poor attempt at an MMA simulation. I don't see a single redeeming quality in this game. I see all of these people saying that this terribly flawed demo is better than Undisputed and I think it's just a bold faced lie. I don't even like Undisputed, I rented it and sent it back within a week. I think it's a completely unrealistic pile of crap.
That said, it's put together better than the demo and every EA MMA gameplay vid i've seen. At least in that game when you set the AI to the highest difficulty you can't go in and KO the CPU in 10 seconds with a wrestler.
Maybe they can do better in the future, (I doubt it), but for right now this game looks horrible and I feel like it's my duty to let fellow gamers who might be reading this thread know that it is being highly overrated. I know personally I feel cheated when I get my hands on a bad game with good reviews.
I wouldn't have even put this demo out, they should have just released it and gotten their money from anyone willing to buy it.
Whether or not you believe me I don't really care, but this is in fact my first and only account on this website.
1) Give me a reason why you doubt it?
2) Are u gonna sit there and honestly say that UFC has better graphics than this game?
3) Have you tried user vs user gameplay yet?
4) I agree that the CPU is too easy to beat once you get the mount....but how do you know it will still be like this in the retail version?
I expect answers please.Lineup:

Well, I don't really care about that portion of the community. Those are people who are going to buy the game regardless of what I say. Those have already made up their minds. I like to reach people who don't already have their preformed opinions on games. The guys who are on the fence looking for a completely honest review (which is very hard to get nowa days I might add, I mean madden 11 got 8-9/10 ratings ffs).Comment

and many of the guys you are arguing with are guys that trashed madden. noone disputes that the demo has some ai deficiencies, but many of us feel when it comes to head to head it will be a different story. the ai doesnt parry well in the demo, one of the main reasons it is easy to sprwl and bumrush them. if they parry, you lose stamina and cant bumrush, so against a human that strategy wont work unless you are playing an idiot who refuses to adapt. everything in this game has a defense, and looks to be one of the most balance games out there.Comment

I wouldn't say better, they both have pretty bad graphics compared to some of the games that are out there. But at least the fighters look like themselves in Undisputed. Have you seen Aoki in this game? He looks absolutely NOTHING like the real life Aoki.
I have not, but there is no reason for me to believe I can't do the same thing to a user. The problem is hooks are the most effective strike BY FAR and you can chain them together one after another. Combine that with the stun mechanic and you have a recipe for disaster.
I have not said anything about the mount personally. I would hope they would have the AI completely overhauled before release, but I seriously doubt that is going to happen. When was the last time you saw a game that was drastically improved from the demo version?Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
We need to keep the discussion on the demo and Biizz you need to stop instigating things by making ridiculous comments. Now you are saying the graphics are Gamecube. Let it go. If you don't like the game, fine. Finding various ways to say it gets annoying and just poisons the conversation.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I haven't found various ways to do anything. I stated my opinion, people disagreed, I made arguments to bolster my original opinion.
If you want me to stop commenting then you should probably get people to stop quoting me and asking me questions first.
In every conversation i've seen on this game people have said the graphics look cartoonish. The first thing I think of when I see the graphics in this game is the old def jam games that I played years ago. If that's ridiculous then so be it.Comment

If the controls of UFC are complex to you then YES. MMA does have better controls. I guess some sim guys want MORE control but I'm fine with having ONE button to execute me doing something simple as getting off the mat. I'm okay with ONE BUTTON to say I don't want to get took to the floor. I'm also okay with one button to submit or to get a better position. I pre ordered it today because I like the direction that they are going and I want to give it a chance. It was fun, the controls were smooth to me for what I was trying to do.
I have pre-ordered MMA and can't wait to play. The graphics are very nice and I actually have a sense of what I am trying to accomplish during a match

I am totally with you on that! I thought UFC 2009 was awesome, but in retrospect, I never really knew what I was doing in that game. I never got used to the "Shine" mechanic, and avoiding takedowns was problematic. So I got UFC 2010 thinking maybe that would simplify it for normal people, and it seems they made it more complicated.

Tonight I worked on my combos while standing. i used Miller because he has the spinning back punch. I got in some nice 3 hit combos with the jab leading. The only thing I need to work on is quickly sprawling because the CPU will attempt the takedown while I'm setting up punches.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

The newer builds might have a better way of handling takedowns.
If you watch this video from Gamespot, you'll see at the 26:08 mark, Scott Smith stops a takedown by Frank Shamrock and merely shoves him away. One might say that's because Scott Smith doesn't have the special move to knee an opponent out of the takedown... But if you go to the 26:27 mark in the video, you will see Frank Shamrock shoot for a takedown and Scott Smith defend against it with a knee that sends Shamrock crashing to the mat.

One of my biggest problems with the demo is the tedium and repetitiveness of constantly ending up in the sprawl position because your opponent shoots over and over for a takedown. If what we are seeing in this video is indicative of the final build, then this game just got a lot better.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Wow the game in that video appears to be more polished then this July build demo. CPU wasn't looking for the takedown and was actually swaying and standing up in that Scott Smith & Frank Shamrock fight.
That was cool to see. Players didn't appear to move as fast either like it does in the demo.Comment

Lets get back to the impressions, and stop the back and forth personal attacks. Make your points/counter-points, and move on.
Leave other games out of this. This is the MMA forum. There is no reason to be talking about Madden. This is the EA MMA demo impressions thread, Madden, or any other EA game should not even figure into this.Comment

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)
The A.I. in this game is poor.
Playing all fights on legend, and still winning 85% of the time, all by TKO/KO.
It's far too easy to land strikes, just keep punching and the CPU backs away(and blocks) but I keep connecting because my fighter just auto-step/slides in to punch the opponent. And this isn't good especially since I'm consistently beating Overeem with Lasley's "dominant" striking. Mount is also easy to attain and then win from, the CPU just lays there and takes punches until knocked out.
Anim8or stated that this game would be a simulation(or) a simulator, I think he may have been a little disingenuous, I typically have an 80% connection percentage(or higher) while using Lashley on Legend.
This game is very simplistic, in Undisputed you can choose exactly how you want to transition and where your punches land while on the ground, which isn't the case for EA MMA, though to be fair Undisputed isn't that good either.
Also their's quite a few bugs which I expect will have been ironed out before production.
With that being said perhaps the game will be fun with friends, though I do expect online to turn cheesy.
A couple positives: Submissions are done pretty well, this is the only part of the game that is challenging for me, well the chokes anyways.
Graphics, one thing that EA does well is graphics and they're outstanding in this game.
EA MMA reminds me alot of another EA game, Def Jam Icon, graphics looked great but the game was severely lacking in depth.
Memo to EA: gamers aren't totally idiotic, they can enjoy a game with some complexity and even some difficulty. Stop making games for the lowest common denominator.
Or at least have an option within the game, Arcade or Simulation, Supersmash Bros or MMA game.\jk
Questions for a dev:
- I know the game won't magically become realistic at retail, though will the A.I. be any smarter, or challenging?
- Asked this question over a week ago(no response), will there be any sliders?
side note: lets see if I get any accusations of having an agenda, to hate EA or something or another.Last edited by Sandbox; 09-30-2010, 03:41 AM.Comment
