Re: UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones - 3/19 in NJ

Every fight on the main card delivered tonight. I won my parlay and I saw the birth of the Jon Jones "era". There's nobody at 205 that can stop him right now. THe only guy that I could see maybe giving him a challenge is Phil Davis 6-12 months from now.

During the next week, I'm sure we will hear from the Jones bashers how he basically beat up a rusty past his prime Shogun. Jones has never been in danger of losing a fight in his career (the DQ doesn't count).

I give credit to Jones and Evans for willing to fight despite being friends.

Someone needed to tell MC Hammer that it wasn't bright inside and it's okay to take of the sunglasses. What a tool.

My God. So unfortunately for me I don't really see many fights outside of Jones/Shad then Jones/Page.

Hopefully Shad and Jones end up not liking each other to make for more intrigue.
I'm gonna play devil's advocate. One, this whole thread feels really familiar. Why? Because this is how most of us reacted when Machida crushed Evans. Everybody has a hole in their game. I still havent seen Jones take a straight strike or seen his chin tested. Also his unpredictability could cost him. While Jones is amazing with the stuff the throws he leaves him self extremely open when he misses a spinning back elbow or kick.

Two, LHW is still stacked. Evans, Machida and Rampage would both offer different challenges. They would all probably lose but I give them all a decent shot. Phil Davis is waiting around and is reminding me alot of Jones when he was coming up. Strikeforce's LHW's like Hendo, King Mo and Mousasi could be interesting too in a yr.

It was definitely said for Machida. It was WAY over the top when he beat Evans.

I feel that Rashad is going to be a tougher fight for Jones.

Actually I feel Rashad and Rampage would match up better with Jones than anyone he has fought to date.

Rua is a great fighter, but I was never really sold on him and I feel Rashad would have defeated him also (although probably not as dominating).

Anderson vs Sonnen rematch. If Anderson wins and Jones can beat Evans,
Jones vs Silva is the superfight that I want to see.
New York Giants (8 NFL Championships-4 Superbowls )
New York Yankees (26 World Series Titles)
New York Knicks (2 NBA Championships)
            Michigan Wolverines (11 National Championships)
New York Rangers (4 Stanley Cups)

Jones isnt ready for Silva yet and wont be after the Evans fight. Superfights should come after you clean out a division. Silva is close but Jones hasnt even started.

Exactly. With those wild shots that Jones throws, its very possible that a quick counter puncher with power can catch Jones if he throws it at the right time. I thought Shogun might be one to catch him if he threw one at a bad time, but Shogun was too slow in this fight to hit him.

Someone like Machida has the speed to counter punch him plus Machida is still very tough to hit unless Jones copies Shogun's gameplan. Machida doesn't really have the power though. Rashad has both the speed and power to counter and is a strong wrestler but I don't know if he can stop Bones takedowns. Rampage I don't see having any success unless Bones really messes up and leaves himself wide open for a killshot.

Machida is the fight that right now intrigues me the most while Phil Davis is still developing.

Seems like Jackson's and Grudge are starting to split. Marquardt, like Evans, trains at both and he didn't have Jackson or Winklejohn in his corner tonight.

I keep thinking of the Faber/Brown 1 fight as an example of unpredictability getting you caught. Faber threw one of his wild strikes and got caught. Jones' confidence in his striking ability could leave him open and no one knows if Jones has a chin.

                          interesting interviews.

As great as Jones looked, Rua looked like crap - and his gameplan of winging looping shots from way outside sucked too. He was absolutely dejected and gassed after the first round too. This was Forrest Rua, not Machida Rua lol if that makes sense.

Props to Jones he looked great.

Funny how rare the whole 'camp' thing is in boxing where people would fight from the same gym and how common it is in MMA.

If you guys thought Rua was too slow to counter Jones' wild throws, what do you think Rampage will be able to do. Haha.

I think it comes down to how Jones looks against Evans.

Evans knows the kid better than anyone, Evans is a strong wrestler and has heavy hands. So we'll see how Jones looks against Evans.

Rampage aint gonna do a damn thing. I will wager any sum of money on that.

Machida aint gonna do a damn thing.

Exactly who else in that division still makes it "stacked"? Forrest? Coutoure? The division is not stacked.

I wouldn't say its stacked, but beforehand there was no elite guy that stood above the rest of the division since Liddell in his prime. Since then the belt has changed hands so many times and I don't think it has successfully been defended without controversy since Liddell had it.

There was just so much turnover in the division between the top 10 guys because once someone would win the belt, they would immediately lose it in the next fight.

All I have to say more is it'll be very interesting to see how all of these coaching issues play out with Jon Jones. How much will it effect him for his next fight.

Also whomever wins, is it really gonna go back to one big happy family so that Jackson can coach both of them again? It's inevitable that Jones/Shad will end up fighting each other down the road again. I don't see how they will just go back to being one big happy family lol.

So if they don't end up all together again in one camp, who will Jackson choose? Or will he choose any of them at all? That could effect Jones' future.
