      Re: UFC 162 - Silva v. Weidman - July 6

I came in to that fight really neutral. I said to my friends, " I like Silva, but an upset would be fun".

After Weidman took Silva down and made him look vulnerable on the ground I thought "This may be what I wanted after all".

Then Silva took the showboating too far. The second he got rocked/knocked out, I came off the couch. I wanted him to lose after that garbage. In the end, I would have preferred a lengthy even fight, but it didn't take long for me to start pulling for Weidman.

My house erupted during the knockout. Rogen said no one expected Silva to get caught.. BS. I just told my buddy sitting to my right, " Man Silva feels the heat after the first exchange and he's trying to get in his head. As long as Wiedman keeps his cool and Silva keeps this up, kt will backfire".

I wish Silva would have at least acknowledged he ****ed up. Pretty crappy IMO.

That poster had to have been from 2009/2010. Crazy how much the sport has changed in 3/4 years. GSP (and I guess Rashard Evans) are the only fighters left from when I started watching this sports half a decade ago.

Kinda sad. Also explains why I don't watch too much anymore.

The PPV rematch will do huge numbers. I still think Anderson will win, as long as he decides to not be a ****ing moron again.

              I still can't believe what I saw.

I didn't know so many people didn't like Silva. I don't see the taunting thing as a big deal or some sin to the sport. Ali and Roy Jones Jr used that strategy to some degree. And it is a strategy. Did he take it to far? Of course. But that could've easily been a Forrest Griffin replay.

Not to take anything from Weidman. He definitely earned and deserved the win. He caught Silva acting like a jackass and caught him with lunging wild punches.

Maybe I'm one in denial, but he didn't "beat" Silva, Silva just finally got caught. If that happens again or Weidman simply beats him next time, no excuse.

Much respect to weidman for taking the belt no foolery on his part . But after watching the slow mo replay I'm 95% convinced silva threw the fight to retire...he didnt even catch him with a power punch(a clean one if you considered them straight hooks power punches) they just didn't land clean enough IMO to do enough damage to take a championship belt

C'mon man. Did you see his eyes roll back? You don't fall to the ground and leave your hands down so a guy can potentially rain down with punches.

Pretty hilarious how so many people think the fight was fixed.

Saying the fight was fixed so he could retire is not possible. Silva said it himself, he still has 10 fights left on his contract, so he can't retire.

And Meechy, have you ever fought before? You do know that not all punches have to have alot of power or land clean. It just has to land at the right spot. Just like a flash KO in boxing. Only Weidman finished him off with 3-4 more punches to the noggin.

Hopefully it knocked some sense into this fools brain.

I'm in the same camp, that was fishy. I think many people hate Silva so much that they are trying to ignore that was not a punch that should have took him out and he didn't bother to try and defend himself when he fell to the ground. It was almost like "take a couple of shots on the ground and let's get the ref to stop it" because I really don't wanna fight anymore. Silva was even trying to hold on to the ref's legs with body language that was saying "you stopped the fight right because I'm not in the mood to keep going."

It definately was not fixed because White has no reason to but Silva definitely looked like he wanted to lose and came in there with a half assed effort and his post fight comments pretty much confirms he's had enough. If White pressures him into a rematch it will be the same lackadaisical effort from Silva. I don't know why he just didn't retire before this but maybe White wouldn't let him since there has been a lack of star power in the sport lately.

If you think there was a hint of that fighting being fixed you shouldn't be watching MMA anymore. Anderson tried the same stuff he did against other guys. He made a mistake and Weidman caught him with a perfect left hook that knocked him out. It wasn't fixed.

I didn't have a problem with Silva being Silva with the taunts. It was the fact that he spent the better part of the round doing it rather than just fighting. Once he just kept on taunting, I wanted Wiedman to catch him one time and that's what happened.

Its one of those things where I wanted to fast forward a few months to a rematch immediately after the fight ended.

Yes but he was never this dumb with it... sure he may have fought with his hands down he even taunted him with his out telling him to bring it, but this whole drunken monkey stuff make its so fishy IMO he didn't land a "knockout punch" and even when silva fell when weidman went to finish he only landed 1 punch on top and he threw at least 5 in this whole rocked state weidman only managed 3 punches.

I can't see silva fighting into his 40's with the 10 fights left on his contract

Standing against the cage and doing the same thing during his last fight was much worse than this.
