Yeah well I guess you didn't watch the press conference when Weidman was asked 6 times if what Anderson did was disrespectful and Weidman said no 6 times in 6 different ways.

It looks to me like Weidman had that scouted and it was planned. Like he threw that first punch without intent to hit, knowing Silva would dodge so he could follow up.

Damn Silva gets a lot of hate. I love the "swaying"/taunting. I'm an Ali guy, and I'm a Silva guy.

Was the fight fixed? No, of course not. Did he want to win? Of course. But I think Silva has secretly been waiting for someone to actually be able to beat him. You can only wipe your division clean so many times before you get bored of it. Hopefully we still get Silva/Jones and a Silva/St. Pierre fights, but other than fighting those two, I think Silva is ready to retire. And he deserves to. Much respect for the GOAT.

Damn, Silva losing brings everyone around to the forums. When I woke up today I almost thought it was a dream, but then I remembered posting on Twitter last night like all my hopes had just died or something lol. I knew Weidman had the tools to be competitive, but I can't remember the last time that I've been that shocked watching sports. This one had way more of an impact on me than when Fedor got finished for the first time. Then you had the silly *** crowd booing Anderson after all he's done throughout the years. I thought it was pretty pathetic myself, but I should know by now to expect that sort of thing, especially from a Vegas crowd.

Props to Chris Weidman though. The guy presents himself well and he's the type of champion that most people could get behind. If Anderson was gonna lose, I don't mind it being to someone like him. Lol @ Vitor begging for a fight seconds after Weidman got the strap on his waist. I'd like to see Anderson fight him again and win back the belt, but at this point in his career, I really can't blame him for any path that he takes from here.

Lol naw haven't had to chance. I will when I get to my laptop, but honestly he can say it 100x more and it won't change the fact he called Anderson a "disrespectful piece of sh*t" :wink:immediately after he KO'd him.

Goading your opponent and dropping your hands don't fall under that category in my book. Weidman took care of business and did what he had to do and put an end to Anderson's charade. It is what it is.
That's how I see it, too. I've never been a fan of Silva's antics, yet understood why he was doing it. I'm glad Weidman finally made Silva pay for thinking he is invincible.

Because in the moment he did get to him, despite prepping for exactly this technique.

That's a great post. I was fully expecting Silva to win... was in a bar with a big honking group of Brazilians who were being really stupid and annoying - they were also 100% convinced and cheered so loudly but at the kiss after the bell and not touching gloves, more than the striking it was just dumb. But when he dropped I knew it was over and there was no recovery coming, I involuntarily stood up and found my hands on my head like 2 minutes later. I literally could not believe what I just saw.

I really liked how Weidman was there to win as I've posted is the single most important key to victory facing Silva. But what most interesting to me is that I don't see "it" in Weidman. Matt Sera and Joe Rogan, both sold on him being super elite and special. I just don't see it though - not saying he isn't special, but I'm just not on board with that - yet.

The other interesting thing about the fight is the thought that maybe if Silva didn't clown so much he would have won (which I personally believe) BUT, that's what he DOES DO. So in other words, when he's in his element and gets all crazy, he allows it to consume himself and feeds off of it and finds success - but how does he fight not doing that? would he be as effective? would it take away from him 'speacial-ness'? I don't know.

The biggest outcome from this in my opinion is everyone else's stance towards anderson in terms of the other fighters. Now NOBODY will crap their pants before entering the ring, and many will think "I can knock him out" which will make fights tougher for Silva because that mystique was a HUGE advantage for him.

I agree with others that he is a GOAT if not THE GOAT, that's a debate, but also it doesn't matter. IF he's 1 or 3 all time who cares.. he is a rare talent and that's it.

interesting to see what happens next for him...

Everyone saying Silva lost because he was being disrespectful or threw the fight. You guys fail to mention that Anderson didn't have Steven Segal in his corner for this fight. He was stuck in the crowd instead.

Do not deny to power of Segal. Those piss yellow glasses have powers.

Silva was served some last night, but don't expect to see much more of it. Silva is going to retire the champ.

Didn't Silva say he had no interest in a rematch or even fighting for the belt again?
He only sounded interested in fulfilling his 10-fight obligation and then retiring.

I wonder if his fire has been gone for a while now?

Youve been watching fights long enough to know to never believe a fighter during an in-ring interview immediately after the fight. Dana isnt going to pay Silva millions of dollars to fight mid level fighters or showcase fights. He will fight Weidman again or he will fight a contender at 205.

I'm thinking he'll fight someone like Rua, or Evans, and as long as he wins, he'll still get Jones. Probably have a year off to lose the weight, then start training for GSP. I know he said 10 more fights, but I'd give him about 5 more max.

I'm surprised how many people took a woozy, emotional Silva's words at face value. He wasn't anywhere near the right state of mind to make career decisions. I thought that was obvious.
