I am sad that we never got to see a Bones v Silva matchup. I am sure Dana is as well.

    Silva will be missed.

Yeah, that link still isnt showing anything and says it will start shortly, Ill probably just get the cliffnotes version tomorrow at this point as it seems to be taking them forever to get the stream running or the presser started.

EDIT - The press conference is running now.

My heart goes out to Silva. Hate to have such an amazing career end in such a horrific way.

Two UFC champs from the state of NY and they can't even get to fight in their home state.

Weidman/Belfort should be in Newark. GSP got a ton of fights in Canada, so why shouldn't Weidman be able to fight in his backyard?

Why oh why does curiousity have to get the best of me?

I just had to look up the break on Youtube. Excuse me while I go vomit.

                  Re: UFC 168:Weidman v. Silva 2 / Rousey v. Tate 2 - Dec. 28 - Las Vegas

Am watching the card now, unfortunately I saw the UFC 170 thread title so I assume Rousey wins, but I have avoided any other spoilers successfully.

                  Thoughts as I go:

1.) Glad to see Poirer (did I spell that wrong) get the win. Like that guy a lot. Fight went as I thought it would. Diego is a firecracker but I get the impression he's kind of lazy. Just looking at him I think he looks like he still has a lot of room to be in better shape and could probably fight at a lower weight class if he really was dedicated to his fitness. I think he will struggle against top guys in a similar fashion throughout his career.

2.) Loved seeing Jim Miller get the win. Great classy guy. Good for him.

3.) M. Johnson is a tough dude man. I honestly wasn't that impressed with him on TUF but since then he's really looked like a killer in the ring. I know he lost two straight before these two wins but these two wins have been pretty impressive for me, especially the dismantling of Louzon

4.) Barnett is clearly a good fighter but I think at this point in his career he is going to struggle against the younger, new-wave of heavyweights. It's not about being slow lumbering sledgehammers anymore, these new guys are athletic. Browne is a dangerous dude man. Browne is seriously scary powerful. Seems like a pretty nice guy outside the ring too.

5.) I didn't really enjoy that Hall v Leben fight. Just looked a huge mismatch to me. It looked like what I would imagine it would look like if I tried to fight Jon Jones. Leben was clearly never a threat and Hall was never, ever in danger. Leben was a fun fighter and I hope he has a great life after the UFC. This fight doesn't really move Hall that far up in my eyes. I still just see his last two losses, one against a grappler and one against a guy just as athletic as he is. Curious to see who he is matched up with next.

6.) Like I said earlier, when you finish everyone in the first round, you don't need need a "slice of humble pie." You're the best, you can do what you want. I really don't understand why Tate became the peoples champ overnight after TUF. Nothing I saw from Rousey on TUF bothered me. Nothing I have heard Rousey say ever bothered me as much as things I have heard from guys like Jon Jones or Tito Ortiz. Rousey is genuine and I respect that more than anything else. Bruce Buffer overdid it a little on these intros by the way, I don't mind his schtik but it was a little much tonight. ANyway, love how the fight starts. Miesha clearly worked on her game and really did a good job in my opinion. Rousey's striking defense is really sub-par, I have always felt that but bottom line was it never mattered before. She catches too many punches with her face. Upkicks clearly took something out of Ronda. The judo takedown reversals were awesome. WOW how the hell did she get out of that first armbar! YES. TAP. Wow what a fight. What a fight. I love it. All you Tate fans can go cry in your wheaties. What a freaking fight. Talk more **** Miesha, talk more ****. Wow I am fired up! *I am going back and writing this after my adrenaline came back to normal, Miesha is tough as hell and fought her *** off, but I am a Rousey guy through and through. Tate is a warrior though, no doubt.*

                  7. lol I love the Anderson Silva entourage on the way out. Never thought I would say this but I am rooting for Anderson, think it would be cool to see him get the belt back. Wow is Weidman the hardest hitter of all time or is Andersons chin just gone? That looked like a half assed punch that dropped him. Hope Anderson can battle from his guard here. Come on Silva...wow he doesnt look good coming into the second round. Never seen him look worried. What the hell is Weidman doing? Dude just fractured his leg and hes trying to give the guy a hug? I hate that crap. I hate when there is a brutal finish and the doctors are trying to help the guy and the opponent is all trying to give high fives and **** dude I love sportsmanship but there is a time and place. Oh well, it really looked like Weidman was in control of that fight anyway. I am gonna have to watch the post-fight but I would assume thats the end of Anderson. Sad. Dude...what is the deal with Weidman and his camp, dont theyh realize that the dude just freakishly fractured his leg? Show some class you idiots.

I realize you may not have seen the post-fight interviews and everything.. but..

We really going to talk about class when it comes to Anderson Silva? OK man.

Weidman clearly felt bad for Silva when he talked to Rogan, showed class by still calling him the best fighter ever to live. The camp was happy that Weidman won and were just reacting. If they had known the severity of the injury of course it might have played out differently. Weidman in the post-fight press conference again showed grace towards Anderson.

If you're gonna blame anyone for the freak injury, blame Anderson who threw another kick after knowing that his shin was already hurt. Weidman being the well-trained protege that he is checked it perfectly and Anderson shatters his leg in half.

Class is the most overrated / overused term I've ever seen in sports, especially combat sports. People only cry about class when their favorite fighters lose. Rousey can't bury the hatchet off with Tate after winning = you go girl. Weidman celebrating for a brief moment his victory = show some class. Hypocritical much? I don't care for either to be honest since adrendaline is a crazy thing.

Also, it takes skill to check leg kicks (because very few fighters in the UFC can actually check kicks), and while Weidman didn't think he would shatter Anderson's leg by checking his kick, it was intended to cause pain and deter Anderson from throwing any more.

I mean sure, it didn't look good for Weidman to run around in a circle with his arms raised, but don't mistaken it for Weidman being a douche or something; all he did was celebrate another well-deserved victory over the GOAT of MMA with a technique that he was trained to do.

Doc says the injury will take to 3-6 mos to heal and Silva could be back by the end of 2014 if he chooses.

Well, that recovery timeline is encouraging.

Yeah, Kevin Ware with Louisville had a similar injury in March and he was back on the court in September. With that said, who knows if Silva wants to even go through the rehab.

                            He's 38.

He will be hesitant to throw leg kicks which has always been a part of his arsenal.

He will be hesitant to work his way back up at MW because of age and because two of his friends (Jacare/Machida) are in the top 5.

He's made a good amount of money and doesnt need to fight.

All great points. I'd be surprised if he fought again, and he really doesn't need to, because he will still go down as perhaps the G.O.A.T.

Basketball is different though and like you said age is a big difference. Sure it can heal, but he could break it again if someone checks it in the right spot.
