Well it looks like I dodged a bullet with this PPV. I had every intention of ordering this PPV but got caught in a traffic jam on the way back from the Thunder/Wizards game and didnt make it home until 11. I wouldve been a bit heated if I spent 60 bucks on this PPV.

I'm OK with the stoppage. Looked like only a matter of time. Defend yourself better.

He gave Herb a thumbs up though. Plus we were under a minute in the round. I dont know what else he could do. He had a a single and was protecting his head with the other hand.Comment

He wasn't missing any punches though. I think he was out on his feet and it was only a matter of time before Faber was getting KO'd.
Pretty horrible PPV. Matches ranged from boring to tedious. Only one great fight on the card and it only lasted one and half rounds.Too Old To Game Club

Re: UFC 169: Aldo v. Lamas/Barao v. Faber 2 - Feb. 1
The first fight of the main card ended up being the highlight of the night. Trujilo has a nice pay day coming.
I really expected a finish in the Mir/Overeem fight, but Mir took a beating all the same. I assume he's cut now. I'll miss him if that's the case because I'm a fan, but his best days certainly seem behind him.
I don't want to see Aldo fight anyone else at 145. It's Pettis or bust. Outside of the the 5th round, he made Lamas look like a bum. It's almost surgical the way he operates now. He seems content to just chip away at guys and occasionally throw in a flurry every now and then. I can't wait to see my boy get some finishes again.
I wasn't surprised to see Herb stop the Barao/Faber fight. We've seen plenty of fights in the UFC end the exact same way. It's too bad though because Faber had some fight left in him. Does anyone think he'll earn another title shot at any point? He's certainly had his chances.

Dont assume Mir is gone yet especially if they are able to get Brock back after Wrestlemania. Mir/Lesnar 3 is still a possibility.Comment

Hard to improve position immediately in that position. He was only on the ground for 10 seconds before Herb stopped. I'm not saying Faber or anyone can beat Barao right now but it was late in the round and you should give the fighter the benefit of the doubt. I think what made Herb stop it was Barao looking up at him as if he was asking him to stop it.Comment

And this is so subjective. It's why Faber should've been moving. You cant expect that because how many times do you see early stoppages?
I'm gonna say had he not have been knocked senseless twice, it wouldn't have gotten stopped.

I'm not going to kill Dean for that stoppage because he is the best ref in MMA but it was early. Faber was defending himself and there was 18 seconds left.Last edited by aholbert32; 02-02-2014, 02:26 AM.Comment

So are we going to ignore the thumbs up? Dean tells all fighters give me a sign that you are still in the fight. Thats a sign! If a guy is out on his feet or no longer defending himself, he isnt going to give that sign. Dean either missed it or was focusing on Barao's look and decided to stop it.

I guess I'm saying something similar in the end, though. It was early, but I'm not mad at him for stopping it.

The fight wasn't going his way, but neither Trujillo's. You defend and endure that initial flurry then try and do something with that single, but it was stopped too early.
The situation certainly could have been a lot worse, good loser too.Comment

Faber is one of the more durable guys in MMA. Dude has no quit in him. That was an early stoppage. I think Barao still would have won, and might have shortly after there, but there are people you should give a longer leash too, and he is one of of them.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

It hurt to see Urijah so disappointed in that interview, but like he said herb is still one of the best. Urijah was rocked twice and I'm sure that played into Herb's decision. On the flip side Barao did an awesome job selling the TKO by looking up.
Spoiler
The Trujillo KO was so awesome he should have taken home submission of the night to for being the only finish of the night lol.
Spoiler
Fights like that are fun to watch, but are also the reason we are getting less finishes from certain fighters. Overeem and Aldo for example are in another class when it comes to technical striking. Aldo has been surgically picking guys apart recently making sure not to gas himself until the 5th which doesn't matter because by that time he's usually up on the cards and can concede a round.
After Reem's last two fights where he went for the kill, couldnt get it and gassed for a loss I expect he will like last night fight a smarter/safer only taking the finish if it lands in his lap.Last edited by Hiro1; 02-02-2014, 04:18 PM.Psn: Plex-07Comment
