Think of all the stars they've lost in the last two and a half years. Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Jericho, Edge, in addition to Triple H and Undertaker being part time. That's basically seven bonafide main eventers gone in 30 months. And now Orton's injury on top of Mysterio's injury. Imo, there's no real way to plan for all of that. They knew they were really thin, especially on the babyface side (there are guys that could step into being a main event heel). And Orton's injury probably came at the worst time.

I was thinking it was the arena stairs. Guess it was backstage or outside somewhere?Comment

Re: The OS WWE 'Dirt' Thread
You seem to think that having only one title would mean less of Cena in the main event, which couldn't be further from the truth. The top guys are always going to get pushed, just look at the AE and Rock/HHH/Austin always in the title picture somehow.
If anything, having only one main title would push guys like Sheamus, Christian, Ziggler, Barrett even further down the card. Like I said, obviously you don't see it that way, but it's seems illogical to me to think that going from separate shows and 2 main titles to vie for to one 'brand' and one main title would give guys more chances and make Cena and Orton midcarders (I guess?)
WWE's been hit hard by injuries this year, which has also thrown a wrench into things - Edge's retirement, Mysterio's knee, Sin Cara's knee, Christian's ankle, Orton's back, not to mention Taker's being a deadman. They've been put in a tight spot and lost a lot of star power this year, but I don't think that in and of itself is enough to have a knee jerk reaction and end the brand split completely. SD is never going to be on the same level as Raw, and it's clear that WWE doesn't care that it's not, so all the griping about how SD should be moved or go live (even though I might agree w/ some) isn't that prescient in their minds.
I mean, just look at the rosters right now and how few people are actually used on TV. Even with the Supershow, they aren't really expanding much.
Start with Raw.
ADR
Riley... can't say I've seen him on Raw or Smackdown in ages.
Brodus has still yet to debut.
Punk
Hawkins... yea, Superstars I'm guessing?
Otunga
Ziggler
Epico (tag division)
Bourne (tag division)
Goldust... semi-retired I'll say. Don't even know why he is listed.
Swagger
Lawler... not even going to count.
Cena
JTG... no.
Kane
Nash...
Kofi (tag division)
Mason, haven't seen since the whole Vicky Air Boom ZigSwag stuff
McGillicutty... Superstars.
Primo (tag division)
R-Truth
Mysterio - injured
Santino
Miz
Hunter... very part time
Reks... Superstars? Maybe?
Ryder
I counted 11 guys in the singles division that get TV time, and that includes Santino. I can't imagine Smackdown being much higher. Off hand, and this is if Orton is out extensively: Sheamus, Show, Henry, Bryan, Rhodes, Barrett, Dibiase. SEVEN!!! Seven singles wrestlers that actually get used. There are not even 2 dozen guys, even if you included Orton, Mysterio, Sin Cara, and Christian. There is no reason not to end the brand split, at least in terms of TV. They have no one, or at least no one they are willing to push.Comment

Re: The OS WWE 'Dirt' Thread
You still haven't answered the question though. How does going to one main title and ending the split alleviate any of that? You say we'll see new feuds, but new feuds would likely come at the expense of certain guys getting less TV time and more focus being paid to the main eventers. Keep 2 shows but let guys move from show to show more often, which is what they have been doing for the past 2-3 years now.
Anyways, for all intents and purposes to me the brand split is over, at least in thought. Guys move back and forth without much really being made of it. We just had a "Raw" superstar feud for the SD belt for 3 months. I'm pretty sure someone, maybe even Punk, will move over to help SD now that things are thin w/ Orton's injury. Then you'd have fresh feuds like Punk/Henry, Punk/Barrett, Punk/Christian (when he gets healthy)....my point isn't that there aren't thin rosters, it's that it has more to do with injuries than the brand split thinning the herd, so to speak.
The brand split isn't the reason for lack of guys. Like I said, injuries and guys leaving have taken their toll on the roster and their are less bonafide stars on the roster now than there have been maybe since right after Rock and Austin left.
Now you have Cena and Orton, with Punk climbing to that status (but still not quite there), Taker and HHH are part time/semi retired, and after that there's a drastic drop as far as real stars. Mysterio and Edge both were big name guys and have been big blows to lose. So that's why things are so thin right now, it's not because of the brand split, it's just injuries taking their toll on the roster.Comment

On a related note, it looks like it'll only be 'a few weeks' for Orton, and not 6 months. Sorry to get your hopes up, goh.

Re: The OS WWE 'Dirt' Thread
Lesnar returning to the WWE could be the best thing to happen to the WWE in year if it happens.
It all makes sense regarding the promo if Lesnar was returning on 1/2, the familiar force, something about a she(she being Sable or something),etcSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

MAYBE next year for Brock. I would be absolutely stunned to see him show up on WWE TV 3 days after getting his midsection shredded by Overeem.
Now that he's retiring from MMA, it's natural to think that Lesnar would return to WWE, and I do think it's a possibilty at some point, just not for the upcoming RAW or WrestleMania.
If and when he does come back, it will be in a very limited capacity, similar to what The Rock has done since his return.Currently Playing:

Re: The OS WWE 'Dirt' Thread
I could see Vince chucking money at Lesnar for a Lesnar/Taker match at WM 29, if Taker is capable of it.
Rock/Cena sells itself. Lots of people are going to buy that anyways because of that. Putting Lesnar/Taker on the card for WM 28, while it would make it a freaking dream card, doesn't really do much for them financially.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn
