People over the world knew who they were. They were hot commodities, and if you think WWE doesn't know who anybody who is anybody is on the indies then you are just lying to yourself.

Bryan Danielson - signed to a WWE developmental deal in 1999.
Claudio Castagnoli - signed to a WWE developmental deal in 2006.
AJ Styles - Offered a WWF developmental deal in 2001 after they purchased WCW where he was wrestling. He declined.
Samoa Joe - Wrestled Essa Rios on WWF Jakked in 2000. Feuded with John Cena in UPW during that same time period.
Alex Shelley - Had a tryout on WWE Heat in 2005. Lost to Simon Dean.
Low Ki - Made appearances for WWF in 2000 on Metal and Jakked.
Christopher Daniels - Signed a WWF developmental deal in 1998. Made appearances with them through around 2002 I believe.

I could go on, but you should get the point.

Chris Hero was released because he wasn't willing to put on the weight the WWE wanted him to. From my understanding, he was a pretty lazy worker outside of the ring, and it showed in the ring.

And nobody said being on a bigger network makes you better. He clearly states that TNA is on a bigger market so they get more publication, and even they can't compete with the WWE and they have more roster talent than ROH.

Also, for the record, MTV hasn't been a real channel since the early 2000s.

I'm not sure an equally funded ROH could even contend.

ROH, from what I understand, leans on the quality of its in-ring product. I don't think you can get over as a company by just offering solid matches.

I know we all laugh when WWE talks about how its an entertainment company first, but that's what it is and it's why they're successful.

Look at a guy like CM Punk. When I came back, around WM XXVII, he was toiling around the upper parts of the midcard in nothing feuds with a diminished Orton. Then he drops the pipebomb, which is just a talking segment, and he's a megastar.

Crowds love great matches, but you have to have the whole package to really appeal to the masses. I'm not sure ROH has that.

You could give a company unlimited resources to start a wrestling promotion and i dont think they would legitimately contend. There would be SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much catching up to do to WWE. And WWE owns everything wrestling from history to fanbases to promtions, to arena influence, to brand recognition (which gives them leeway to fail and recover from btw). It would just be a matter of time before the new guys failed. They would have to be damn near perfect in all their moves. And it would take decadeS to equal WWE. After slow progress (read: constant failure) the backers would back out, then the company would limp back to obscurity. Its happened before, its happening now.

I come to the dirt thread to find dirt on the WWE, yet all I find is a debate about ROH.

This is the dirt thread, right?

Ironically, all of the total package guys from ROH are wrestling for Vince right now.

Yes, it started from AJ Styles contract and evolved into a healthy discussion about ROH and what they are.

This is the second time that people have whined for having a little discussion after some dirt stuff was released (the AJ/Total Divas thing being the other).

As for the discussion, I really don't think there really is a company that could challenge WWE. ROH is so focused on the in-ring things, that the lack of stories won't make it popular and things like Chikara would be awesome on TV, but it would be one of those niche things that never hit the markets.

I think WWE knows this with the select signings of indy guys and putting them through the ringer of sorts, testing if they can entertain as well as wrestle. While there is a lack of characters right now in WWE, still having that charisma/mic skills will get you farther than just being good in the ring.

Exactly, if it were that bad, mods would have shut it up quick, but they had no problem. It turned into a solid discussion.

What about Kaiju Big Battel? They should have their own show.
