Re: The OS WWE Spoilers Thread

But did you look at those last 5 matches?

    Title match against DiBiase.
    Spontaneous title defense against Morrison.
Lost to Randy Orton which had 0 to do with the IC title.
More Randy stuff at Survivor Series.
And then he has had this thing with Booker T.

I don't have anything against Cody, but the reign is not as great for the belt as so many make it out to be. If you actually thought Booker would get the belt... well, don't know what to say. Same thing with Goldust. He's not going to come out of retirement full time. The same thing happened with Orton. Rhodes just got squashed to end that one. Sure, it got him over, but it did 0 for the belt.

getting Cody Rhodes over, who holds the title, gets the title over. I don't see how people can argue this at all. Cody Rhodes is so over it's ridiculous. Of course he's not going to lose the title, why would WWE want to ruin his momentum!? The only way he will lose the IC title is when they want to put him as a legit contender for the WWE/WH title much like they did with Dolph. It's brilliant, that's what use to happen!!

How can you say they don't care about the title at all, when they're putting him in high-profile matches, with good feuds, FOR THE TITLE. His feuds have been the #2 or #3 feuds on Smackdown for months - he gets a ton of tv time, and defends the title on PPV's.

Cody Rhodes as IC Champ has had a match on the last 5 PPV's. Dolph Ziggler has done the same, wrestling 7 matches in those 5 PPV's. Starting with 2010's Bragging Rights before that, the IC Champion appeared on 8 straight PPV's (a lot of that being Dolph). 3 years ago, the IC/US Champions almost never appeared on PPV. They've done a great job of transforming both titles - they went from being mid-card titles that you never saw on PPV, to being upper mid-card titles that routinely appear on PPV, and the Champions are portrayed as real threats to Main Eventers, and are very often put into matches and feuds with Main Event stars. How can you still think they aren't trying to push those titles?
Yes, yes and while we're at this when Rock, HHH, Hart, SCSA held the belt, they were feuding w/ part time guys? Commentators? The Diva belt gets defended on PPV also. We calling that belt significant.?

Jericho/Angle/Edge lost the IC belt all the time before they were main event ers

I'd call that a fudging of the facts. In 2009, the IC title was defended 8 times over the year. That is far from never.

Jericho lost it A LOT. Isn't he something like a 9-time champion?

I think it's 11 or 12 but regardless of the actual number, you are right he lost a lot.

But, why does the title holder have to lose a title to make it prestigious? I don't get that way of thinking. In my mind its a major push if someone holds a title for longer than 3 months in this day in age. People just need to come to realize you can't compare the product now to the 'Attitude Era' product, even in terms of holding titles.

I think you've missed the whole point of the debate.

Well, because the 'Attitude Era' made sense since they gave a **** about the titles.

Yea, there were a ton of great feuds that involved the IC and to some extent, the European belt (see Owen vs. HHH); not a guy getting squashed by a World title contender who just happened to be holding the IC belt.

The wrestler gets the belt over, then drops the belt so that the belt gets the next guy over.

Not really sure how that is hard to understand. Titles will have dry spells while being used to give a rub (see Zack Ryder) but will get back to prestige when the next guy comes (see Dolph Ziggler).

The other thing to remember is that the mid level titles are no longer "#1 contender to the World Title". They are stepping stones in order to give guys a chance to showcase for an upper card spot on the roster.

Had the IC belt been put on Sable, you'd have a point, but the whole Chyna-Jericho co-champion storyline was pretty good.
