Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
As I said in another thread, WCW was bankrupt. Ted Turner had to sell and it wasn't making money compared to the much superior WWF.
And please don't for get Vince Russo. After all, HE'S THE WRITER, HE'S THE WRITER!Too Old To Game Club

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
Actually,Ted Turner didn't have anything to do with the sell of WCW. He sold Turner Broadcasting to Time Warner. Time Warner then merged with AOL. And it should be noted that WCW wasn't the only thing that lost money under AOL/Time Warner.
Anyway, had Turner never sold to Time Warner,WCW would still be around. Turner always had a soft spot for wrestling,as he felt it was a big part of the Superstation becoming successful. That and the fact that the guy they hired has the head of programming,Jamie Kellner, didn't care for wrestling at all. Once he canceled WCW programming on the Turner Networks, there was no chocie but to sell.Comment

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
Turner loved wrestling, he would have never signed off on the sale. It was the higher ups at AOL/Time Warner that didn't feel that wrestling was profitable or good on their network, that's about the extent of it. Of course it lost money but it could have easily been profitable if they just reworked some finance a bit.PSN: VoicesWrestling

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
Neither WCW or McMahon's fault. It's the executives at Turner that made it what it was. They in essence wanted it to fail so they could take it off the network.
But either way I miss the hell out of it.Comment

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
I'm currently watching and copying the 1998 season of Nitro as I type this. I'm watching Nitro, RAW and all PPVs for 1998. It's 900 times more entertaining the current products.Comment

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
That doesn't make any sense. Especially since even at it's worst WCW Nitro was still the highest rated show on the Turner networks. Like somebody said,Turner had a soft spot for wrestling, since it was wrestling that lead to his success during the early days of Superstation WTBS. Has bad has WCW had become there was no talk of taking it off of the network. Well at least until Jamie Kellner came along and canceled WCW programming during his first week on the job.
You know everybody likes to talk about the money that WCW was losing at the time. The funny thing is what they were losing was just a drop in the bucket compared to other stuff owned by AOL/Time Warner. Wrestling was dropped because Kellner thought that wrestling catered to the lowest common denominator. The fact they were losing money wasn't the reason wrestling was canceled on the Turner networks. Wrestling was canceled because their head of programming didn't like wrestling.Comment

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
Exactly. If you want to point to one man that killed WCW it's Jamie Kellner. It's not Bischoff, Hogan, Nash or Russo or any of them. Kellner became head of programming and within a week all but canceled WCW because he didn't like it.PSN: VoicesWrestling

Re: Man I Am Going Through WCW Withdraws
I stumbled upon a great torrent site recently that has all the Nitros from 1997 - mid 1999. Looks like they only have 97 PPV's though. I was looking for somewhere to watch the beginning of TNA and saw the WCW stuf, which I'll have to dive into after TNA.
PM me if you're interested in the site.Seattle Pilots GM (2011 - ) Record: 152 - 195
