    HDNet makes ROH an Offer

    Acording to Meltzer...

--HDNet sent ROH a proposal for a one hour weekly show yesterday which would be the first bona fide TV offer the promotion has received. We'll have more if or when the deal is accepted.
    Very interesting.

Oooh nice. Can they handle the pressure of a weekly televised show though? I wonder. Still great news.

I do not get HDnet but assume it'd be on the Fight Network or Sportsnet in Canada.

man that would be great if I could see a weekly ROH show in HD!!

If ROH got on TV regularly, there would FINALLY be two wrestling programs worth watching again! TNA AND ROH!!

Yeah, I just hope ROH doesn't have to fork out the cash and go more towards the entertainment aspect like SpikeTV wanted TNA to do. I miss the old TNA days where the in-ring aspect overtook the storylines, mostly the X division stuff. I guess that's what comes with a TV deal though these days as that's what the majority of the fans want, a soap opera.

Yeah unfortunately the stories sell everything from advertising to PPVs. I wish the business as a whole was more in-ring oriented but that just isn't a reality right now.

Awesome news. This could end up being my first experience watching weekly wrestling in HD.

What's interesting is if I understand correctly, Mark Cuban is the majority owner of HDNet, and the way it sounds, HDNet is interested in covering the production costs. I wonder if ROH could end up getting some long-term financial backing from Cuban.

This probably won't work. ROH has always been known as the "pure wrestling" company of the United States. They pride themselves on having good, quality matches. When they get a TV deal, their timeslot could be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. ROH will start cutting the length of their matches to showcase more guys on TV, therefore making the matches much shorter, and possibly killing the quality of the match.I'm much happier when ROH doesn't have a TV deal. ROH is probably the #2 promotion in the country (1. WWE 2. ROH 3. TNA), and they don't even have a TV deal. I think the PPV's are working just fine. Plus, don't believe anything you hear from Meltzer, because 70% of the s*it that he reports is plain bull*hit

Yeah, Meltzer is the only one reporting this.

                        /sarcasm

Relax. The sky isn't falling. ROH has to take it to the next level because if they stay where they are, they won't survive. Cary Silken sees no need in keeping the company afloat if the situation is hopeless. He wants to run a wrestling company, not a porno DVD mail service for nerds. They'll survive as long as he's happy and TV makes him happy. For all the talk of Gabe learning from Heyman, he never thought of the future of his business. TEW isn't real life.

We don't even know what the format will be. It could be an extended video wire for all anyone knows.

And ROH is not number 2 in the US. I used to think that myself, but TNA has much deeper pockets and market penetration than them.

                          Done deal:

HDNet today announced the contract has been signed for a long-term television deal with Ring of Honor.

The announcement only stated it would be a weekly television show, and included a quote from HDNet owner Mark Cuban, stating, "Ring of Honor is an exciting addition to our programming lineup at HDNet. ROH has developed a cult following thanks to its special brand of professional wrestling and we are pleased to present it for the first time to a mass television audience.

"Ring of Honor is proud and excited to enter a partnership with HDNet," said ROH owner Cary Silkin. "Our in-ring action is the perfect compliment to HDNet's respected programming and growing stature in the broadcast industry. It's a match most definitely made for a main event."
