Re: HDNet makes ROH an Offer

    Did anyone watch this?

    I tuned in tonight. The show wasn't bad. {!SPOILERS BELOW!}

Hogewood wasn't TOO bad. Far from perfect though, it's obvious he's new to calling wrestling. He had a few Don West moments, and he screwed up the names of Delirious' signature moves.

Dave Prazak tried to carry him a bit, but Prazak really didn't bring his A game for the broadcast. He was so emotionless and sounded depressed. Maybe he really missed working with Lenny lol. I dunno, I love Prazak, but he didn't do a good job tonight.

The little vignettes for all the guys before the match were a bit corny. I would have rather had the announcers describe their character, but whatever.

The interviews with Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs were pretty good. The interviewer made me laugh though when he said Black idolized Jacobs growing up. I never knew Black was that big of a fan of the Detroit indy scene lol.

The actual show looked very crisp. The camera angles were a little annoying at times. I don't know if they didn't have the crowd mic'd up well or what, but they seemed DEAD during the whole show. They were always sitting, not many chants. That was kinda disappointing since ROH crowds add so much to the shows. It was worse than ROH's Detroit crowds lol.

    The action was good.

Lynn-Delirious was a good match. Typical Delirious offense. Surprised they didn't edit out their botch.

Kenny King-Sami Callihan was good for what it was, showcasing King. It was my first time seeing him in the ring since I haven't followed ROH over the last year, but I came away impressed. He looks like he has a future.

Brent Albright-Rhett Titus was very BLAH. Albright is the damn near the biggest guy (physically) in ROH, so Rhett Titus getting most of the offense just seemed stupid.

Jacobs-Black was a very good wrestling match. But as an ROH/Jimmy Jacobs match, I came away disappointed. These two are supposed to hate each other. In every other one of Jacobs' major feuds, Jacobs goes to any and all measures to pretty much disfigure his opponents(see his feuds v. Cabana, Whitmer, Briscoes, Aries); so for this to be a straight wrestling match just seemed off. We at least needed the appearance of the railroad spike lol. I just never felt that these two hated each other, no intensity. Good match otherwise.

It was a very good wrestling show. It was probably the best hour of in-ring wrestling we've seen on free TV in awhile. It wasn't anything close to the best ROH has done, I question not putting ROH's two biggest stars Nigel or AmDrag on the first show, but it was good.

Re: HDNet makes ROH an Offer

      I absolutely loved it!

I got home around 1:30 last night and flipped on the DVR and was entertained from the first minute.

Seeing as I've never seen ROH before I really enjoyed the wrestling and the wrestlers.

I thought Hogwood did just fine. He was much better than Tenay or Adamle and it was only his first show.

The only thing I'd change with Mike is, sometimes, he'll go crazy about a move... but it doesn't really fit with what's going on in the match.

I thought the mic'd crowd and the entrance music could have been clearer, and louder. I did love that HDNET didn't edit a damn thing... there was a couple clear, audible, **** em' up Kenny, **** em' up! chants... Obviously with HDNet not being on basic cable they can air whatever they like.

I really enjoyed the build up to Black/Jacobs... especially the video with Jacobs all bloody and black trying to throw in the towel but the girl stole it... I thought they really built up the match like it was something special... and the best part was when they did the intros, they did a boxer-ish rundown with height, weight, years pro, and when they debuted in ROH.

I'm hooked and it's just the first show.

      Good stuff!

Went to a friend's house just so I could watch. Show was ok, not the ROH I expected in a debut show though after watching them for years. I thought they would bring much more to the table, but it's just their first show, so I'll hold judgment. Wrestling was good, but the production needs some fine tuning.

You nailed it, bro. Once you live in this area for this long and see those commercials more than a few times, it's all you hear in your head when you see him on TV.

I caught part of the show but ultimately couldn't watch because he was that bad. He needs to learn the right time to get excited and the right time not to. And someone tell him that there are other things you can say besides "near fall" when someone's going for a pin...oh...and don't make it sound as though every "near fall" is the greatest thing you've ever seen.

Anyone watch this past Saturday? Pretty good show aside from the sluggish Claudio match. Next week Austin Aries and Bryan Danielson make their HDNet debut. Also, apparently Time Warner is removing HDNet from their lineup, another reason for T.W. subcribers to make the jump to another company.

I've watched both episodes and have been entertained despite Mike Hogewood.

I actually enjoyed the 2nd show bettter than the first. The Nigel vs Jay Briscoe match was far too short for those two, but I understand that they had to have a set time limit for TV.

                I'll be watching every week.

I've watched both episodes so far. To be honest, I don't know if I'm going to even bother any more. I'm a big ROH fan, I own over 70 of their DVDs, and that TV show just isn't ROH. It's not that it's really bad, but it's not what I come to expect from ROH. It just feels like wrestlers going through the motions. I'd rather put in one of their DVDs and watch that for an hour :/

I dunno, I wanna support the show because I want ROH to succeed, but it's just not doing it for me. I'm hoping it picks up. I read that Lagana produced the first six shows, maybe they'll ditch him for the next tapings and things will go from okay to great like it should be.

Yeah I understand that certain things are sacrificed when the product goes to TV, but I'm not happy about it either. By the same token the (hopefully) mainstream exposure they will get will be both a blessing and a curse.

When I go back and watch wrestling shows from 2004 TNA, when it was still PPV every week, there was much more emphasis on wrestling and having great matches. Once they made the move to TV and 3 hour PPVs, it has gone down hill in the ring.

Now I'm not directly comparing the product, just making a general statement about what TV does to a wrestling product.

I don't want to see ROH follow a similar pattern where they change the product ultimately to fit for TV. It seems to be inevitable that every company that goes mainstream so to speak, sacrifices a lot of what got them there in order to appeal to a broader audience.

I hate that, but I also understand the business side makes it an evil necessity.

I understand that if they want to be mainstream, they must change. That's part of the business. But if their first two shows are any indication, they're not going to be pulling in too many viewers. So far, they've been just putting on good TV matches, nothing more. There's no storylines to make the viewers care or want to watch. The wrestling has been fine, but not spectacular enough to carry the show and make fans wanna watch.

I still believe that when it comes to mainstream wrestling, no one does it better than WWE right now. ROH provided a great alternative to the mainstream wrestling world with their DVDs. Their TV shows, not so much.

I'm just hoping that these initial shows are just trying to introduce the stars, and hopefully in a few weeks things will start to pick up. Otherwise I'll just skip it. I barely have enough time to keep up with current WWE plus the ROH DVDs I have.

They'll likely have it re-stocked soon. Seeing as it's one of the top ROH shows of their history, I can't see them leaving it sold out for too long. Otherwise, Ebay's probably you're best option.
