The DVD sounds interesting, until you look at the match lists. I haven't seen all of those, but just looking at the list is a reminder of how bad most of the main-event talent was in WCW. They had some good characters, but awful wrestling. WCW's strength was its under card which isn't represented on this DVD.

I agree and disagree. Most of those matches were pretty good. A few of them though, don't need to be on there. I mean the Midnight Express vs the Southern Boys? DDP and Karl Malone vs Hogan and Rodman? Hell at least they didn't give us the Sting match where Robocop showed up. And I'm totally stunned that they gave us the Booker T Lance Storm match, which was a very good match. Or at least I thought so.

The Midnight Express vs The Southern Boys is not only one of the best tag matches but one of the best WCW matches I've ever seen.

It was a great match. One of the gems that people forgot about since it wasn't a big time match by any means.

So what are your thoughts on this. I didn't pick it up,but I have seen. I must say that I enjoyed it. My(minor)gripes with it are this:

Man,does the Big Show come off as bitter. All he seems to talk about is, "oh they got paid more than I did"

The fact that they changed the Midnight Express's theme music.

And they totally cut Jesse Ventura out of the commentary of the Sting/Vader match.

Other than that,I enjoyed it very much.

I took this doc for what it was (especially after being spoiled by the excellent "Death of WCW" by Bryan Alvarez and R.D. Reynolds). Yes, a lot of stuff was skipped and a lot of the horrid decisions WCW made were overlooked but overall I was pretty impressed.

The DVD, IMHO, wasn't the full-out burial people expected it to be. The few outstanding accomplishments WCW made were praised and its talent was respected enough (the most notable exception being the full-out mockery they made of Jeff Jarrett in the closing minutes, especially the ex-WCW backstage agent claiming he "couldn't draw a dime"). While not as informative or as detailed as The Death of WCW, I enjoyed what I saw. It could've focused in on the downfall of the company a bit more, though and less on the history of the promotion. Sure, the history of the league is important but what I find most intriguing about WCW is the way it snowballed in its final three years.

There's so many gems in the matches they decided to include, such as Eddie Guerrerro/Syxx (hands down the MOTN of nWo Souled Out), and the aforementioned Midnight Express/Southern Boys match. However, I expect WWE to release another 3-Disc WCW set down the road to cover a few more matches no one really talks about anymore (like Flair/Hart Souled Out '98 and Hart/Benoit Mayhem '99 - like it'll ever happen). Regardless, I like what WWE did in this set. No, the doc isn't as comprehensive as I would've liked it to be (one more hour about WCW's downfall on the doc would have made all the difference in the world) but for what it's worth, it was well worth the wait!

I've read that Bret Hart isn't even mentioned in this DVD. Is that true?

No mention of him and he's only pictured in highlights once or twice.

Montreal/Bret Hart is not mentioned, neither is the original company-jumping angle with Ric Flair (where he brought the WCW belt on WWF TV and called himself "The Real World's Champion" in 1992). The only instances where the documentary explicitly centers on wrestlers caught between both companies are when they talk about Hall and Nash's debuts and the beginning of the nWo. Flair and Hart's "company jumping" weren't even acknowledged, which was pretty surprising to me as they played a major role in the relations between both promotions.

There are a TON of holes in this documentary and for that reason, I recommend reading "The Death of WCW" as a companion. It's much more informative and while it doesn't have the audio-visual aspect going for it, its sheer detail and specificity sets it apart from what WWE has done on this set.
