Am I the only one who had zero strategy going into WWE games? I just kick punched grappled and reversed, I didnt realize there was a meta game beyond that. The super reversing in No Mercy and on difficult levels in following titles were pretty cheap though.

Never played No Mercy (bah gawd, the horror!) but yeah, with all the PSOne-current WWE games no strategy is needed, and that has been my biggest point of contention with the series. No skill necessary to play, just mash buttons until you get a finisher. Pin your opponent. Rinse and repeat.

HCTP was the last game I felt like you had to think a little bit, due to the weight detection. You couldn't pull off certain moves with Rey or HBK against guys like Big Show, so that added some depth.

Has anyone played the original Smackdown or Smackdown 2 recently? I nearly picked both up
last week but don't have a PSOne memory card to be able to play them on my PS2. Was wondering if it is worth going out of my way to find a memory card (or a PSOne) for the games?

Has anyone played the original Smackdown or Smackdown 2 recently? I nearly picked both up
last week but don't have a PSOne memory card to be able to play them on my PS2. Was wondering if it is worth going out of my way to find a memory card (or a PSOne) for the games?

Smackdown 1 was ground breaking for its time but has been surpassed in each abs every way by leaps in bounds. Smackdown 2, I remember spending a lot of time w/. The story mode was great b/c they just used previous RL storylines and animated cutscenes.


Thanks to you guys that mentioned Shut Your Mouth. For some reason I didn't remember much about it. Lucked into finding it today at a flea market. Nice roster and the CPU AI is actually good. Just got destroyed on normal as The Rock versus Undertaker.

I know the games are dated but wondering if they are so horribly dated that they aren't worth $10 (combined) plus however much a PSOne memory card sells for.

SYM was one I really enjoyed because of the WWE Draft. I remember the trailer for that game being really good, too.

I have been doing a lot of reading of past reviews and from what I gathered SvR 2006 is one of the pinnacle achievements in wrestling games. It seems to rank up their with No Mercy.

I notice the series starts to fall apart starting from SvR 2008....

Not enough love for SvR2006 in this thread! It's my favorite to this day, even over No Mercy and HCTP.

Thing is I can't find 07 anywhere. Is 07 and 08 gameplay the same?

From reading the reviews I would say no. In 08 they tried to turn it into a fighting style a game as oppose to keeping it wrestling.

Found HCTP at GameStop.
And just got my copy of SvsR 2006.

Those are good games. Heck, I was talking about buying PSOne games. I need to get all of those PS2 games again, too.

WWE 13 is still enjoyable to me simply because Attitude Era was so well done. The CPU AI is horrid but I'm hoping that once I start Universe Mode I can get some decent CPU-CPU matches. Although, the one-count bug may be crippling in that mode, in which case I'll go back to WWE 12.

That 1 count glitch has killed 13 for me. The attitude era mode was pretty awesome, but I'm a huge sim guy. 90 percent of my game play is universe mode and this glitch has ruined it. Maybe next year.

After playing all 3, I realize why I didn't remember SYM or SvsR06. SYM was a really good game, HCTP just blew it out the water. The limb damage and superstars knocking you out backstage made a lasting impression on me. And of course them making Brock Lesnar into this incredible man beast.

I got SvsR when it came out, but wasn't watching wrestling then and spent the majority of the time creating attitude era guys and playing random matches. I didn't play it much b/c of lack of interest in wrestling altogether. I'll take HCTP and SvsR over WWE 13. (Not to mention Fire Pro Wrestling Returns also).
