Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
It was all about Hall and Nash leaving for WCW and the creation and initial success of the NWO. The next episode is going to focus on WWE morphing into the Attitude Era.
Pretty good episode by and large, I don't know how common knowledge it is, but I was intrigued by who the original "3rd Man" was going to be.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
The 3rd man was supposed to be Sting and I think they would have been ok with him in place of Hogan. The problem would be, what would they have replaced the Sting in the rafters angle with? The primary reason I was tuning in was to see what was going on with Sting.Comment

Nonetheless I could see in the immediate future at least, Flair recreating the Horsemen in order to save WCW. The NWO would be a powerful force but I think in a Sting led incarnation they wouldn't have been AS unstoppable as they were under Hogan. It'd be quite a different faction IMO, probably a little more serious in tone and more outright villainous rather than turning into cool anti-heroes. The angle would've probably had a far easier termination as well.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I wonder why they didn't go into the Bret Hart angle of the nWo origin? I can't remember what I was watching, but originally Bret Hart was going to be the third guy, but at the last second he resigned with Vince for another year and then Bischoff went through the other ideas for that third guy with the Sting plan that eventually became Hogan.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
IIRC I think WCW made overtures to Bret a couple years before he left WWF for good. Bischoff had made a sweetheart deal and Bret went to Vince and got a short term deal. I'm not sure if my memory is playing tricks but I think Bret mentioned this in the wrestling with shadows documentary.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Yeah, I think Hall is the one that revealed it not too long ago. He and Nash called Bret and were telling him how great WCW had been and how different it was from the WWF at the time. Bischoff of course was cool with that and was offering Bret a sweet deal to come to WCW and he'd be the third guy in the group. Bret of course was loyal to Vince and signed on with the short term deal to stay instead.Comment

96 is when Bret signed the 20 year deal with Vince.
What short term deal was there?I'm a Vince McMahon Guy!

Yeah, you're right, it wasn't short term. Vince couldn't pay him the money though. I actually forgot the length on that deal lol

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Since you said who it was i'll offer some speculative thoughts on it. I think the NWO angle would've worked at least in the short term. The hatred between WCW and the Outsiders was perceived as totally legit and Sting was one of, if not the biggest defender of WCW at the time. You have him turn and say it was all a clever deception and how deep inside he has no loyalty to WCW would've been shocking to say the least. I don't think Sting's promo skills would've been strong enough though to be that bad ***, over the edge and larger than life personality that Hogan brought to it.
Nonetheless I could see in the immediate future at least, Flair recreating the Horsemen in order to save WCW. Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
I think with Sting they still would have been the cool anti-heroes, maybe even more so than with Hogan. They tried to turn Sting heel by having him attack Hogan a few years later when he went back to the red and yellow and the crowd cheered Sting for attacking him. To make a long story short, I think Sting could have filled in Hogan's role and done great, maybe not as good of a job as Hogan, but I don't think anyone could have filled the role Sting played on the WCW side. We probably would have had Hogan beating the entire nWo single handedly 2 months later and ending everything there. Sting and Hogan has one of the best build ups I've ever seen for their Starrcade 97 match, too bad WCW went nowhere with it.
I saw someone saying this on another website in a 'what if' scenario and I agree. With his creative control Hogan would have destroyed the nWo before it could take off good. I couldn't see him allowing himself to take the *** whippings that the WCW guys were taking to put the group over. As one of the commenters at this other place were saying. Hogan would have single handedly buried them.
