Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
As much as Attitude Era was edgy, there's so much from RA era that would've be criticized so much by people/media if it happened today. And WWE was a public company back then too and things like that happened just fine.
The whole Gowen stuff was crazy.Comment

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
June 99. What a great way to build towards KOTR and beyond.
Spoiler
-Opening promo was Vince talking about the greater power stuff and how he wants to meet the greater power. At this point, it just seems like this promo was a swerve for the sake of having a swerve. Interesting part of this promo, he mentions various names as to who the greater power could be. HBK and Jake Roberts were 2 names specifically he mentioned.
-The "It's me Austin!" reveal was way better than I thought it was going to be. Corporate Ministry kneeling in his presence. This was a full on 20 minute segment with no breaks! While the stuff leading up to the reveal didn't line up with it being McMahon, they did a great job in the immediate aftermath.
-Linda/Steph (Stephs voice is so high compared to now) come out and reveal they each own 25% of the company. Haven't watched any Linda stuff in over a decade, but she really was a great character to have. Held a meeting with the Board of Directors and named AUSTIN as the new CEO! Up to this point of Attitude Era I think the pop Austin got being named the new CEO is the loudest pop I've heard anyone get at any point in time!
-Brood vs Acoltyes for the tag titles with the Hardys getting involved!
-Union granted demands by Austin. Big Show wants Undertaker for the title, Shamrock wants McMahon inside the lions den, and Test wants....STEPHANIE MCMAHON! So begins the Test/Steph story. They constantly brought up the whole "Vince doesn't want Steph dating a wrestler" stuff. I know that was a real life statement too, but it's stll weird how what started as a storyline led to it becoming reality with HHH/Steph. I wonder if the higher power story played out differently if the Test/Steph stuff would've happened, leading to HHH/Steph both on and off screen.
-HHH/Rock in a "cast match" lol. If that happened today I think people would be hating on it so much. Fans popped the moment Austin announced the match, but the match itself was weird. A match where HHH had to get a cast to match The Rock(since HHH "broke" Rocks arm), and it apparently was no dq as well.
-Next up, Debra in a "bikini contest". Her opponent....Nicole Bass?! WHY? I think that's the only time anyones been booed in that type of contest of all who actually participated in it.
-2nd week of GTV. I heard all the rumors about this, and Goldust is the only one which makes sense. Jericho apparently said it was Tom Green, but I don't get how it's NOT Goldust. The first week of this they literally called it GDTV. Goldust left at that exact same time and they changed it to GTV. I don't buy what anyone else says about this, it HAD to be Goldust.
-McMahon competing in a lion dens match. Given it's a ripoff of the octagon, it was weird seeing McMahon stepping inside of this structure. Even though it's a ripoff of the Octagon, I liked the platform at the top of the cage. You can't escape. A variation of this match in the future would be nice.
-Undertaker vs Big Show for the title ends with Big Show chokeslamming Undertaker through the ring! imo, that moment didn't get as big a pop as it should have.
I know hearing about that Jake Roberts rumor in the past, but how close was it to actually happening? Who were the guys that would've made any kind of sense to have been the greater power? And even with McMahon being the greater power (not the planned person to be revealed) how did anything that happened the past little while make any sense? We've seen McMahon get into physical altercations with the Corporate Ministry, even fighting Shane. If all this was McMahon plotting against Austin, where did bringing his family into this make sense?Attached FilesComment

They did all that because it’s not real and it’s called a swerve.

Re: WWE Network Discussion Thread
Watching ECW Heatwave 99, and man do I miss Joey Styles. Styles and Cyrus were like an R rated Monsoon and Heenan.
Cyrus: The office just sent me up here to give you the rub
Styles: You're not rubbing anything, my wife is here.
Tazz attacks Jack Victory (faking an injury)...
Cyrus: I can't believe Tazz is going after a guy in a wheelchair
Styles: But he can walk!
Cyrus: It's unconscionable!
Francine gives a Steve Carino a bronco buster...
Cyrus: Speaking from personal experience, that's a tight spot to be in.
Styles: Excuse me?Comment
