Get ready to get happy then, VCI Ent. is going to start releasing WCCW DVDs to the public, selling them in Walmarts, Best Buys Ect. Should be very cool, Kevin tried to release stuff on his website but he asked for too much money for what little you got. VCI should help bring the WCCW back mainstream, they also put out the SMW stuff and the Wrestling Gold series. Another sidenot Bill Watts Ex wife owns the rights to all the Mid South/UWF stuff and she sells it over at UbiversalWrestlingArchives.com I got a bunch of stuff from them and its just awesome.

Re: My thoughts on the whole Showdown ordeal...
Don't recall Kerry facing Flair at a GAB, you may be thinking of the Parade of Champions were Kerry beat Flair for the belt. It was orignally supposed to be David the Von Erich that had ALL the skills, but he died a few weeks before hand and Kerry and Kevin drew staws to see who would get the shot, of course Flair won the title back a few days later in Japan. Had David lived the sky was the limt for him, and it could have impacted the history of wrestling.
The traveling NWA Champion was great and was a wonderful way of keeping regional wrestling alive, then Crockett began to consolidate power buying up the NWA groups that Vince didn't and having total control over the NWA Champion it killed alot of the mystque behind the title. Of course the territories couldn't have survived, but that besides the point.
Had David lived he was def. going to get the NWA Title, now whether it was going to be a quicky run like Kerry's or a full run isn't known. Back then if someone was to be Champion they'd have tpo play face and heel and be able to draw as well in both roles. David was sent out of Texas into Florida and had a run at the side opf Dory Funk Jr., in Florda David palyed a great heel and it really helped his standing.
Another long standing rumor about DVE was that he was supposed to get the title off Race but Crockett got it to go back to Flair by inventing and selling the NWA on Starcade. If this is true and David had gotten the NWA Title who knows where it would have gone, one things for sure, Fritz would have broken away from the NWA alot sooner then he did.
One last bit of info, VKM also wanted the Von Erichs. He featured them in his Mag at the time and was trying to convince Fritz to bring World Class under the WWF Banner, Kerry Von Erich is one of the long rumored replacements Vince would have gone after had Hogan not come in.Comment

You are correct sir. While typing, images of the GAB kept coming up ( one such memory was when flair defended the title for like 14 days straight or something like that, hell i was young). I dont remember cleary if the parade of champions was an outdoor event? in any case, you are right, i remember flair winning back the belt just days later.
Kerry did wrestle in the wwf for a short while no? the texas tornado or some crap? I was real down on the WWF ( even though i would still tune into it) when i was introduced to other wrestling shows back in 84.Comment

Re: My thoughts on the whole Showdown ordeal...
Kerry popped up in the WWF in the early 90's right before he died. Had a semi fued with Hennig over the IC Belt which he won then dropped back. There are only two things that stick out in my mind about his WWF run: Survivor Series he teamed with the Ultimate Warrior (another WCCW alum) and the Road Warriors t take on Hennig and Demolition. It just thought it was neat to have The Modern Day Warrior, The Ultimate Warrior and The Road Warriors on one team. The second would be Royal Rumble 92 the one Flair won, during that match when ever an old foe of Flairs hit the ring they went after each other, he did it with Greg Valentine then Piper and when Kerry hit the ring it was pure gold. Other then that the Texas Tornado thing did nothing for me.Comment

I would be extremely happy to see old school wrestling sold in the mainstream stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. I watched a lot of Smokey Mountain in the early 90s. Sid was such a monster when he decided he wanted to work, or where he wanted to work.
Raider, I'm gonna be gone for a week starting tonight, but I'd love to contact you. I'll shoot you an email today and maybe when I get back we can talk or whatever. I'd like to know where some of these message boards for old wrestling fans are at, and I'd love to hear a little about you and the shows that you book or the wrestlers that you have the opportunity to be in contact with.Favorite Sports Teams
