This really was a time when people finally had enough of WCW's bull****.

Didn't ratings still stay strong though? I was reading up on it again today and apparently one of the revisionist history parts from WWE that's forgotten is that once Raw ended, many did tune back in to Nitro which ended 5 or so mins after Raw, those 5 mins was the fingerpoke of doom. Ratings the weeks after weren't much of a decline from their normal either.

January 99 was actually their best month ratings wise since August 98, and the actual decline didn't really start happening until the spring of 99.

WWE makes it seem like WCW "put butts in WWF seats" and that was it for them once those fans turned out of Nitro to see Foley win and never looked back.

From what I read, seems like everyone denies having a hand in it. Nash claims he only started having booking power in February so this wasn't his idea either. But Bischoff denies this being the sole reason for WCW dying (which is partially true, but it didn't help them either).

Strong for the rest of January but yeah they were getting crushed by March and really into April-May.

January 1999 was the last time they got a 5.0 rating (this show and two others in January) minus the unopposed 5.7 they got on February 2. But then by September 1999 they got their last rating above 4.

ETA think about the things that happened to WCW in such a short time frame around here too.

Halloween Havoc 1998 is a brutal show where they have the notorious Hogan-Warrior match that is so damn bad and the overrun on time fiasco of Goldberg-DDP.

                        Goldberg loses at Starrcade 1998.

Finger Poke of Doom January 4, 1999.

The Giant debuts in WWF on February 14, 1999.

                        That's a lot of big **** in 3 and a half-4 months.

Sami Zayn is the Mick Foley of the Bloodline storyline. You have Cody in the Austin role, Roman obviously in The Rock's role. Mick was the guy that was needed to get to Rock/Austin at Wrestlemania 15. Sami was the guy that needed to get to Cody/Roman at Wrestlemania 39. Mick was the one who wasn't supposed to be there or thought to be at the top of the card, the same way Sami is now. All that's missing is Sami Zayn winning a World Title, hopefully it comes in 2024.

The closest I think we've had to a Mick Foley was Daniel Bryan.

The guy who had all the fan support but didn't look one bit like a typical WWE Superstar who you could tell management didn't see him as "the guy".

Already mentioned on Raw, but today is 40th anniversary of the birth of Hulkamania.

Probably an easy question, but did the Hulkamania name come before the Wrestlemania name?

Today has been filled with dark clouds but let's look back on something bright.

                                Happened 1 year ago Tuesday:
