Lol yeah that line got me. Although I also raised an eyebrow because of it. A true casual would have no reason to expect the matches to last so long. Pretty sure this was a fan who decided to write a piece from that perspective since "person live tweets while watching X for the first time" is generally a good formula to go viral.

Anyone who licks their chops to discredit an announced attendance figure at a sporting event is an assbag.
It's a ridiculous attempt to pound your chest over something you couldn't possibly know in an effort to rally the internet again.
We've got a beat writer of my local team who submitted an FOI request to get the attendance registered for a SPRING football game.
It's a sore spot for me.

Re: WRESTLEMANIA 33 - 4/2/17
He's also likely wrong. He claims that because of the stage that it eliminated a significant number of seats but he's not taking into account 2 things. 1) The end of the stadium that the stage was only eliminated 4 sections of seats (there is no upper deck on that end) 2) there were thousands of seats on the field surrounding the ring.
I'm not saying that WWE's total is right but the stadium's attendance is 65k, the event was a sell out and only 4 sections were eliminated by the stage. So I doubt that the number was 55k. Probably somewhere between 60-70k.Comment

You all need to read this blog written by a woman who watched WM 33 which was her very first wrestling event she ever watched. I'm just starting it and it's already gold. http://www.sbnation.com/2017/4/3/151...h-my-good-lord
I'm seriously dying reading this lololol

Re: WRESTLEMANIA 33 - 4/2/17
End of multiple eras with taker gone. Nfl had Manning retire, NBA had Kobe retire, MLB had Ortiz retire, WWE had Undertaker retire. All in 13 month span.
Still hasn't fully sunken in. Maybe it's because past several years we've only really seen him for wm season and maybe 1-2 times in-between,but not as sad as I thought it'd feel. But no more Undertaker! How many people know WWE without undertaker in it? For me, Undertaker toy was first piece of wrestling merchandise I ever owned.Last edited by Majingir; 04-04-2017, 11:19 PM.Comment

Re: WRESTLEMANIA 33 - 4/2/17
So, Meltzer is saying the attendence they announced might be the fakest attendence they've ever claimed lol.The entrance stage was way bigger than the one from WM24, so it is kinda impossible for them to fit more this time. He was hearing the capacity would be more like 55,000.
Sports teams exaggerate attendance all the time. Meltzer ripping WWE for probably including everyone like ushers, security,WWE staff, people with free tickets and so on in attendance numbers....Who cares. Everyone does things like that. I'm sure most wms are like that, but they just didn't have reporters desperate for clicks they have to report pointless and common info as secret groundbreaking fact.Comment

I don't get what's the obsession with attendance. Even freaking out about last year's number. So what? This has literally been done in events all over throughout history. It's not some WWE exclusive thing.

The whole obsession with attendence numbers started when a guy in the know told Meltzer years and years after the event that the number put out by the WWF for WM 3 was way off.
Personally I'm always interested in Meltzer's opinion on things because he's covered pro wrestling for so damn long.Comment

I don't really view it as ripping, though. WWE puts out there attendence number, which is meant for entertainment purposes, and then people are naturally curious what the actual number was. Meltzer talks to his contacts at the building, they give him a ballpark number (legit or not), and he reports what they tell him. If people want to sensationalize or rip using that info, that's their deal.

People are interested in actual numbers, that's all it is. You're looking way too far into these things. WWE has to divest these numbers anyways. If you think Dave Meltzer, of ALL people in the wrestling world, is "Desperate for clicks" during WrestleMania week, you just don't know the wrestling world.
Again, just people looking way too far into things. That's a general habit of the wrestling fans that care enough to go online though. Either one side takes Meltzer and praises it as gospel or the other takes everything he says and picks it apart and calls him a cancer to the industry.
Just relax. If you like to read it, read it. He makes very good points and is more often right than wrong (he's been in the business as long as he has for a reason.) If you don't like it, don't read it. Seems real simple to avoid something like that getting people riled up.badComment
