Deathmatches that are feud enders, or used as story telling devices, or are just slobber knockers with a few weapons are matches I often like. Nick Gage provides none of that. It's just spot after spot with very little cohesion. Wish Nick Gage well, cause his fans love him, but I also hope to never see him on AEW again.
I'll add to this... as much as we love Peacock/WWE Network to be able to go back and watch the Attitude Era. At the same time, I'm glad we have gotten away from that and doing so many unnecessary spots. I was there at the arena tonight and it was fun to be there to watch it in person but I felt there was too many unnecessary spots that were done. I saw pictures of Matt Cordona after he beat Gage for the title and I'm like, was it really worth it?

This is like WWE doing Hell In A Cell when the story doesn't fit it, Jericho beating Gage then facing Juventud next? Gage should have been the final person he has to fight before MJF, at least then the whole deathmatch stipulation would work. People criticize WWE for their safe style but I'll take that over deathmatches anyday.

Now as far as Hangman, I thought they were going to have him pull a Cena and beat The Bucks & Kenny to get the title shot. Hangman was kicking out of several moves that should have ended the match if he was going to lose anyway. The show definitely felt rushed, sometimes it felt like moments weren't allowed to happen. With Hangman losing, there should have been something afterwards where he's in the ring by himself realizing his dreams of being champion are over, like it was with Kofi after the Chamber. I just don't know how you pass on the storyline between Hangman & Omega fighting for the title when it's right there in front of them.

If this was done because Punk or Bryan are being given a title match for All Out in their first show, it feels like Goldberg or Lesnar coming in and getting title matches over full time guys in WWE but I know fans will give AEW a pass because it's Punk or Bryan. All I'm saying, take the title off Kenny then let him face either of them while the title is defended by Hangman or someone else.

In fairness, and I know I'm not everyone, but Goldberg was the only part timer in WWE that made me upset. Lesnar, Punk, Bryan are in that rarified air where I'd be fine with them in any title match. (There are a few more names, Cena, The Rock, etc) I don't/won't always like HOW they do it, but there's definitely a shortlist of people where I get it.

AEW Fight for the Fallen was pretty good this week. Nice opening 10 man tag team match and I laughed at the Elite's entrance. I still dont know which Young Buck is which, but one of them was making in his shots into the basketball hoop. Lengthy match too with the near falls until Omega finally landed the One Winged Angel for the win. Decent promo from Ricky Starks. We sure got to see some old faces from TNT on this show though. Konnan came out with Santana and Ortiz in their match against FTR. And then Haku came out with Hikuleo IWGP US Championship match against Lance Archer.

The Trios match was okay as the crowd was hot for the Jurassic Express and Christian. That booty of Thunder Rosa is finally back on AEW. Her match against Julia Hart was below average but that wasn't Rosa's fault. And that No Rules Match between Jericho and Nick Gage was nuts. Some of the stuff they were doing to each other. Jericho took a lot of bumps and shots for a 50 year old man. You wont see this in the WWE anymore. Next up for Jericho is another familiar face on TNT. Juventud Guerrera! Can't wait to see that match up for some reason!

I'm convinced that this is Jericho's retirement tour. Not a fan of Gage and deathmatches, but if this is how Jericho wants to go out then I'm on board.

Absolutely LOVED that Hangman/Dark Order entrance...gave me the tingles. They have all of August to get him back in the picture and I still think he's getting the title off of Kenny, rumors be damned. Feel the Bucks will also lose (FTR rematch?) and then The Elite can feud with the newcomers if they arrive w/o the gifted title matches.

            Re: AEW Dynamite Thread

Was the stipulation for the opening match that if the Elite(squad) wins, Hangman loses his shot, or was it just the Dark Orders tag title shot on the line?

Britt injured again. Maybe she should stay away from Nyla? They don't have chemistry, and bad things happen to her.

That Wheeler spot looked bad. You could tell the moment he came off the top rope that he was in serious pain, and immediately went to the side of the ring to wait for the doctors, and the ref quickly trying to signal for someone to come over, and tell Dax to hurry up the finish.

And Rampage in Chicago during Summerslam weekend. That weekend will be so much fun with SD before Summerslam, Rampage in Chicago, Summerslam, Takeover, Raw after SS!

I'd start that show with a surprise, because you know fans will hijack the show until they get what they want. It would catch them off guard too because the second after the show opens and the pyros go off, last thing they'd expect is a surprise.

              Re: AEW Dynamite Thread

The Jericho vs Gage match was crazy. In the US people had the funniest timed ad with dominos ad being played during the pizza cutter moment (Dominos didn't find it funny though and seem to want to pull their ads from AEW shows).

In Canada it was weird, they cut to a picture in picture break during Mox promo, missed Jericho and Gages entrances, then just returned. And they never went to break for the whole match, and somehow their was commentary still going on during the TNT break.

As for Jerichos opponent next week, Juventud! I'm starting to think Jericho is picking opponents to face on his way out.

Labour 5 happens the same week that AEW is going to Chicago...you don't think his opponent is.....you know.

Also, who would have picked Juventud to be the second guy to have competed in ECW,WCW,WWE,TNA and now AEW. Daniels was the first.

                This week

                AEW - 1.1M viewers 0.45 rating.
                Raw - 1.8M viewers 0.49 rating

Cracks me up. If you had predicted numbers like this back in Summer of 2019 when Dynamite was announced people would have called you insane. No chance the numbers would be this comparable.

                    Isn't Smackdown tonight?

Last week they did 2.1 and the week before 2.3.

I'm wondering if the incoming additions of you know who will be enough to put them at 2 million.

Who knows honestly. Are the "spoilers" actual needle movers? One I can see, the other it might be for a few shows, but once the "wow" factor wears off, I believe they'll decline.

If the spoilers do show up, I can see AEW hitting 2.5 at least once, but for the sake of making WWE do better, I hope they capitalize on it.

They'll definitely get that initial bump. Whether they retain is a whole other story.

Will people tune in only for the 1 segment/match a week, or stay invested in other stuff.

I'm voting no. I'm not fully convinced that they are building there audience and exposure enough to draw that many new people. Their debut show did 1.4M* and that was with a ton of hype. I don't think adding two top guys pushes them up significantly beyond that.

The 1.1 vs 1.8 number says more about Raw than it does about AEW, although AEW has been smart about how they have booked/marketed Dynamite lately. It's more of an individual event each week, as opposed to just another 2-3 hours of content that you see on Mondays.

                                * that week Raw did 2.5M with an .89 rating, just for more context.
