The career of "Nolan Ryan" - RTTS

I've been asked to restart since my previous file was corrupted and I think I will.

Nolan Ryan is a young pitcher who throws hard (fast) and has good arm strength but has no accuracy at this time. His goal is to be a starting pitcher in the majors and eventually a Hall Of Famer (doesn't everyone have this dream of being a HOFer in his sport as an athlete?).

All of the game's settings will be at the default level except for AI batter's plate discipline (whatever that one may be, I can't recall at the moment), that will be maxed.

He has 3 pitches in his "arsenal", a 2-seam fastball, a 4-seam fastball and a curve ball.

Since I don't have the ability of having him "drafted", I will put all of the MLB teams on a playing card and then shuffle the deck and take the top card. In the event that he is released (which seems likely considering my other try), I will then take the next card. (if at first i don't succeed, i keep on sucking until i do succeed).

Standings & happenings around the leagues will be posted and if any particular team would like to be followed, that will be done.

The PS2 version doesn't have the draft option.

Since I don't have the ability of having him "drafted", I will put all of the MLB teams on a playing card and then shuffle the deck and take the top card. A scout for the San Diego Padres contacted Nolan and was offered a tryout with the team this coming spring training. (BTW, this is with MLB:The Show '08)

Today is my debut in the spring training for the San Diego Padres. We are at the training camp for the Seattle Mariners and I am asked to start.

It was a really good debut for me as I allow only two hits in my three innings of work. The Padres won the game 4-2 and I got credit for the win.

We are at our spring training home and are facing the Arizona Diamondbacks. I am scheduled to go 3 innings so that means that I may get my first plate appearance.

My outing didn't go as well as the first one did as I allowed 2 runs in the first inning. I did settle down and left the game with the score tied, 2-2. The Padres ended up losing, 4-3. I got my first chance to bat in the bottom of the 3rd and I got a single off of Randy Johnson. I ended up scoring the first run for us that inning.

Back on the mound again as we are at the training home of the Giants. I am now scheduled to go 4 innings and it went pretty good as I allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a solo home run to Rich Aurilia in the bottom of the 4th and that ended up being the game winner as the Padres lost, 2-1. I got to bat twice against Tim Lincecum and grounded out both times, one to the shortstop and one to the second baseman.

Today we are facing the Diamondbacks at their place. I gave up five hits in my four innings but one of those hits was a 2-run home run to Chris Snyder and another was a solo HR to Conor Jackson. We ended up getting beat, 5-2, and my ERA is starting to rise.

My turn to start comes around again and we are facing the Chicago Cubs. It was my worst outing to date as Alfonso Soriano blasted a 2-run HR in the top of the first and Aramis Ramirez followed him with a solo shot. We tried to come back but ended up losing 4-3. I struck out and had a sacrifice bunt in my two times at the plate.

Today is my final start of the spring and we are playing this game at Petco Park against the Angels. I didn't do to shabby in front of the San Diego crowd as I only allow 1 run and 5 hits in my 5 innings. I left with the score tied, 1-1, but we ended up losing in 11 innings, 2-1. I had a single and a sacrifice against Jered Weaver so I ended up 2-5 with 2 sacrifices and 1 whiff while at the plate.

The Padres called and offered me a 1-year contract and I asked them if I could have a 2nd year put on. The Padres' GM agreed so I now have a 2-year, $140,000 contract and am told to report to the San Antonio Missions.

My pro career begins.

I had a meeting with the manager of the Missions and their pitching coach. I was given the following three goals to meet by the end of three weeks.

1.) Increase arm accuracy
2.) Increase bunting ability
3.) Have a fielding percentage of .990 or better

My role on the staff is a middle reliever and I've been summoned from the bullpen with 2 outs in the top of the 6th with no one on and the score 1-0, Naturals in the third game of the season as we host the NW Arkansas Naturals.

Not a good debut as I give up 5 hits in 3 1/3 innings, including a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th and we ended up losing, 4-1, with me getting the loss after we had tied the game in the last of the 7th.

After not pitching for a week, I am called in from the bullpen in the bottom of the 5th in our game against the Naturals, this time at their place. There is a runner on 1b with no one out and the score 10-3 Missions. I got shellacked for 5 runs in the inning then give up a solo HR in the 7th off the foul pole in right field and that was it for me. The Naturals ended up winning the game, 12-11, thanks to getting two runs in the bottom of the 9th off our closer.

We are still facing the Naturals on our road trip as I am summoned out of the 'pen in the bottom of the 6th with one out and no one on. The score is 4-1 Naturals. I finished the inning, then pitch the next two innings as I only allowed 1 hit and struck out 3. My best outing since I came to the Missions.

We are now in Tulsa as the Missions continue the road trip. I am called upon to start the bottom of the 6th with the score 6-1, Drillers. I pitch two innings before being pinched hit for in the top of the 8th. I allow only two hits but one of them was a solo HR to the first batter in the bottom of the 7th. The Drillers ended up winning the game, 9-5.
