Re: The career of "Nolan Ryan" - RTTS

    8/8/08

We continue the homestand as my turn comes around again and the Springfield Cardinals are in town. I was told yesterday that I have been promoted again and am now in the number one slot of the rotation (ace SP).

If there was anyone who could probably pull it off it was me. I somehow scatter 14 hits before the setup man came on in the top of the 8th after a double to start the inning. The reliever allowed that runner to score and I end up with a no decision as the Cardinals came from behind to win the game, 4-3.

I was called into the manager's office and told that my goal period ended and it was a good effort as I achieved 4 of 6 goals. I was then given 5 goals to achieve in the remaining weeks of the season.

      Next Series of Goals

      1.) Increase stamina
      2.) Increase H/9 attribute
3.) Have at least 17.0 innings pitched
4.) Allow 27 or less hits
5.) Have an OPP batting average lower than .200

My turn in the rotation was taken by our #6 starter then I take the hill tonight on the road, visiting the Arkansas Travelers.

This was probably my best outing of the season as I hurl a 4-hit, complete game shutout as we won the game, 3-0, my second complete game of the season and first shutout.

We continue the road trip and are in Corpus Cristi to take on the Hooks.

I only go 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, when I was pinched hit for in the top of the 7th. We were behind, 2-1, but tied the game in the top of the 9th. The long drawn out affair lasted 15 innings as the hooks got a 2-run walkoff home run and we lose the game, 4-2.

I am called up today, without any days rest, as I enter the game in the bottom of the 14th inning with us in front, 1-0. I blew the save, allowing the tying run in the bottom of the 14, but we end up winning, 2-1, as we score a run in the top of the 16th and I get a 1-2-3 inning to close out the game.

We continue our final road trip of the season and are facing the Midland RockHounds as I get 4 days rest after my relief appearance.

I scatter 6 hits, striking out 2, as our closer comes in to start the bottom of the 9th with us on top, 4-2. He blows the save as Midland ties the score in the last of the 9th, then the game ends up going 14 innings before we lose, 5-4.

We are back home to finish our season as I am called upon one last time.

The Corpus Cristi Hooks are in town and I enter the top of the 7th inning with no one out, no one on, and 2 runs in as the Hooks lead, 5-0. I get out of the inning, 1-2-3, but allow a solo home run in the 8th. That was my only hit allowed as I finish the game and we lose, 6-0, as the Hooks only allowed 2 hits.

As I am cleaning out my locker, I was called into the manager's office and was told that I had achieved all five of my goals, while allowing 20 hits in 28.1 innings.
