If you're playing every playoff game, due to Medlen and Beachy's infinite suckatude, have you considered taking a look at the schedule and using a 3 or 4 man rotation? Just might save your butt lol.

Re: The Ted Turner Memoirs Part 4: Rise Of The Powers That Be
Biggest game of the year, and Kris Medlen is on the mound. You would have thought Walt Disney himself came up with this situation.. it's just so damn convenient for the Phillies... and Yes, this is pure spiteful irony. But hey, this guy has been so-so positive as opposed to so-so negative so let's roll with him for a couple of innings, maybe he can atleast get us 4 strong innings.
down 2-1 thanks to Kris Medlen pitching alright but not really getting any run support to make use of his decent night in Philly, Dan Uggla would step up to the plate and with one swing of the bat, jacked his 30th over the wall, and for what it looks like barring any collapses, has punched the Braves ticket into the postseason with a dramatic deep flyball.
After Uggla's fly the game busted open and a match that had all the elements of being compelling and one for the ages turned into an old fashioned *** kicking. That's ok, there are plenty more games down the line to be iconic. Just making the playoffs and resting the final two days of the season is just fine by me boys and girls. This season has been hellacious for us and it's good to have just survived to fight another day.
So with that said, the regular season is over. The Braves have won their 4th consecutive division title albeit the NL's lowest seed as even the wildcard has more wins than us. That's equally ok. As is customary, we get the nice text message alerting us on other happenings around the league:

Heyward Awarded 2013 Most Valuable Player
J-Hey ropes in his second consecutive MVP award and I can't help but say I smell shenanigans, but you know what? Let's think about this one for just a second. Do the Atlanta Braves make it into the Postseason without the bat of Heyward? After losing Hanson and Zambrano. Before realizing Schafer was the real deal, and through a painful year where everybody batted below average and never truly all was on the same page offensively.
Jason Heyward was the one constant. And by belting 50+ Homers, driving in 130+ RBI's. Playing injury free, he willed the Braves to atleast be in the conversation during August. Although he once again became milkbox in the biggest moments without his offensive production as a whole, no way we make the postseason.
I honestly think Pujols was the MVP. He had a better Batting Average, and was behind Heyward by 2 HR and about 5-6 RBI's. But.. he had the better team and so he lost some votes because of that.Comment

Re: The Ted Turner Memoirs Part 4: Rise Of The Powers That Be
This year's playoffs are going to be pretty good matchups, I really hope the teams play up to their potentials as each postseason it seems we get good games on paper and then when they actually get on the field the games are a wash, or there is some unexpected sweep.
On the AL side, Detroit and Boston matchup in the ALDS in what should actually be the ALCS, but since Wildcard New York can't play Boston, we gotta put the two best teams against each other right now.
Detroit's midseason move to pick up Prince actually paid off as they held off Cleveland down the stretch, but unfortunately for them, they are about to run into a juggernaut Red Sox team with 3 Aces and a lineup that goes for days. Sucks for them.
Texas and New York face off in the other bracket and to be honest the Yankees are not that good anymore. They still have all the name big payroll guys, but the mystique is starting to fade away, AND quickly at that. It would not surprise me to see Texas be that team that pulls off the improbable MLB the Show simulated sweep.
Over on the senior side, our Braves run into a similar problem as Detroit. All the hard work to get in.. and because of the wildcard rule...
We have to go against the 101 win Rockies. Again Colorado and the Braves lockup in a NLDS matchup. This year I kinda think the edge leans to them. We're like a wounded lion right now. And the Rockies peaked this year in the NL West with 5 guys in their lineup hitting over 30 HR's at Coors this season. It's just not adding up with our rag tag pitching staff for us to survive this season especially when it's always been close before... but we shall see right?
I'll try the idea of a reduced pitching staff. At the moment it's at 4... but this could go to 3 if the series dictates that. Kawakami would pitch if we're miraculously leading this series 2 games to 1.
Oh and the final series between the Cardinals and Giants? Meh... St.Louis will roll in that one. The Giants pitching is nice, I'll give them that... but the Offense of the Cardinals should be able to easily overcome that hurdle.Last edited by lilbiggio; 06-08-2012, 05:22 PM.Comment

Re: The Ted Turner Memoirs Part 4: Rise Of The Powers That Be
WHEW. Braves got in and Heyward gets the MVP again. I'm good with that. Based on the way the season's gone, I'll be disappointed if we don't win at least two games in this series against the Rockies, but with the way the team's pitching has been going...I'll settle for one game really.
I don't hold out home that the Braves can beat the Rockies, especially with the Rockies hitting as well as they are, but I'll keep the faith alive.Comment

Re: The Ted Turner Memoirs Part 4: Rise Of The Powers That Be
lol this might be the moment the bitter fans at Coors Field have patiently waited for after 3 long years. The ball club is so vunerable right now and Colorado is so damn good this season, this will be a bloody battle between familiar foes. I'm sure there are a few here that have equally been waiting for the Braves to get their comeuppance.. and boy howdy, that may not be too far down the horizon:
For those that don't know what I'm referring to, Colorado-Atlanta III, has almost become synonmous with the National League Postseason. For now the third season in a row, the two are locking up on the field. This time with The Rockies holding the Homefield advantage card in their back pocket.
IT has been extremely chippy throughout the years. We've had Martin Prado make a play for the ages making the highlight play of his career robbing a sure fire homerun. We had Carlos Gonzales get plunked leading to a benches clearing brawl. Prado has been thrown at.. the sides have clashed at each other throughout the regular season, and just like oil and water, cats and dogs, or vodka and tequilla.... the two just do not mix well.
One thing has been very consistant though. We have been victorious... twice celebrating on their field. The Rockies hate us for this, and because of this growing and intense dislike for the Atlanta Braves, OUR Atlanta Braves..
They kicked the **** out of us in game 1.
This is not the first time Ervin Santana has dominated us in the playoffs. Hell, he did it last season too to the tune of a 5 hit perfromance. The fatal flaw was that the Rockies foolishly did not make him the Ace and the outing was just to save the Rockies season. Well tonight? They put him as the #1 and the boys from Cobb County were utterly throttled in all facets of the game.
One thing is certain, these boys in Denver are Capital H-U-N-G-R-Y. They blasted us with Homer after homer... and Santana made us look like fools in game 1.Last edited by lilbiggio; 06-10-2012, 10:07 PM.Comment

Re: The Ted Turner Memoirs Part 4: Rise Of The Powers That Be
I don't hold out home that the Braves can beat the Rockies, especially with the Rockies hitting as well as they are, but I'll keep the faith alive.
Also damnit if we don't keep getting our friend Cowboy Joe to keep calling ball games. Remember a few weeks ago how I ranted on Clyde "FU Atlanta Braves" Washington? Well this is the guy I was referring to. His name is Joe Watson. He loves to punch guys out on 3rd base... he is the NBA's Joey Crawford for our MLB the Show Atlanta Braves. The dude hates our guts.
But even with him squirming his way into every game as part of the official's crew. We tried to make something different of game 2. Responding to a 2 hit shutout, we just needed to establish that the Braves won 90 games themselves and weren't going to get disrespected so badly. AFter 1 we were up 1-0.
Then Big Z, who we said would be THE guy with Hanson at home hurt and useless, got litup like a stick of bad Looney Tunes dynamite. AFter 1 inning he gave up 4 runs. WE made a promise, if he gave up a hit to the pitcher, Freddi have'd to pull him... ... and pull him he did friends. Screw that **** this is the damn NLDS.
So in comes inconsistant Medlen. And for what it was worth already down 5 to 1. Medlen did work similar to what he did in early August to narrowly earn a post season appearance. He stopped the bleeding and the Braves offense chipped away little by little at the large lead.
Prado's homerun( yes prado hit yet another improbable homerun go figure)... which bounced off the glove of Jason Werth broke Colorado's back and just like that we were up.
Into the ninth, Troy Tutolowitzki however ended those thoughts of a happy flight, by hitting a 2 run jack just over the left field wall to tie it up and sent it into extra frames. After such a shocking comeback the Rockies bullpen were the scapegoats tonight giving the lead right back to us rather easily actually.
Insanely enough Kimbrell tried to give it right back unfortunately as he gave up a very deep fly ball in the 10th down the first base side that looked to be fair and did the whole hook at the last minute off the foul pole routine that we've seen a million times... this nonesense would have sent Colorado the game winner...
however this time it sliced foul, and in effect won us the game.
7 inches from being down 0-2... we head back home to Ted Turner's Field feeling lucky more than anything else.Comment

I spent March break reading through these things. I had a concussion, so being awake was painful for me.... I still couldn't put away my laptop. Holy crap, these things are addicting! Seriously... You're gonna like it.
