    #GenerationDBacks - a BigJDotCom MLB 18 The Show Production

    DBacks411_18

    Platform: MLB 18 The Show
    Rosters: 2018 OSFM Hybrid V1.0
    Sliders: Armor & Sword & Marino's Timed/Classic Simulation
Roster Control: 30 team control, but only to approve trades.
Rules: I will play all of the DBacks games. I finished a full season in MLB The Show 16 with my DBacks going all the way to the NLCS where we lost to the Giants in six game. I do have 30 team control, but I will not do anything with any team but the DBacks. However, I will accept or decline trades as I see fit. Remember, this is a fictional dynasty and not real life. If you remember that, then you should enjoy this.

As per usual I am going with the DBacks again since I live in the Valley and they are my team.

Please do not post until I get a few templates posted. Thanks.

        MARCH 29-31: COLORADO (1-2) @ ARIZONA (2-1)

        March 29: Arizona 3, Colorado 0
        March 30: Arizona 3, Colorado 2
        March 31: Colorado 4, Arizona 2

This year, I am trying to keep it a bit simpler. I will just post updates of each series instead of individual games. Should help this to move along quicker and is less work.

The Dbacks opened the 2018 season against fellow National League Wild Card opponent Colorado with the Dbacks taking two of three. They were poised for the sweep, but Brad Boxberger blew a ninth inning save in the series finale, allowing three runs in the top of the ninth to allow the Rockies to salvage the finale.

Zach Grienke was masterful in the opener, pitching eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out 10 and not issuing any walks. A.J. Pollock went 2 for 4 with a double and home run, while driving in two.

In game two, Charlie Blackmon singled home DJ LaMahieu with the go ahead run in the top of the eighth off of reliever Andrew Chafin. But a Jake Lamb RBI single tied it and a Nolan Arenado throwing error allowed Paul Goldschmidt to score the go ahead run as Arizona went up 3-2. Archie Bradley came on for the save in the ninth. Manager Torey Lovullo said afterwards that Bradley would move into the closer role with Brad Boxberger moving back into middle relief.

Arizona (2-1) will host the Los Angeles Dodgers (4-0) for a three game series at Chase Field beginning on Monday. Clayton Kershaw will miss his scheduled start with shoulder stiffness.

              APRIL 2-4: LOS ANGELES (5-2) @ ARIZONA (4-2)

              April 2: Arizona 11, Los Angeles 1
              April 3: Los Angeles 12, Arizona 0
              April 4: Arizona 6, Los Angeles 1

The DBacks got the series off to a great start, crushing the Dodgers 11-1 behind Zack Godley. Godley tossed seven shutout innings, scattering four hits. The DBacks hit three home runs (Avila, Peralta, and Pollock) to power the offense. Both Avila and Ketel Marte each drove in three runs for Arizona, handing Los Angeles their first loss.

Game two was the polar opposite of game one as Los Angeles hit six home runs including two each from Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp as they pounded the DBacks 12-0. Alex Wood tossed 8 1/3 shutout innings, scattering just four hits. Taijuan Walker was roughed up for six earned runs and ten hits in just five innings of work. After the game, reliever Brad Boxberger was optioned to Triple-A Reno. He had an ERA of 27.00 in three appearances in 2018. T.J. McFarland was recalled to take his spot in the bullpen.

The Diamondbacks took the rubber match behind Zack Greinke, who improved to (2-0). A.J. Pollock hit a two-run double in the first and a three-run home run in the fifth to pace the DBacks offense. He hit three home runs and drove in nine on the opening homestand that saw the DBacks go (4-2).

Arizona will now hit the road for nine games in St. Louis, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

                  CHRIS OWINGS TO DL

Phoenix, AZ (AP) - Utility player Chris Owings got a tough break on Wednesday afternoon. Making his first start of 2018, he led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a Nick Ahmed walk, but he broke his forearm diving back to the bag after a ball in the dirt to Paul Goldschmidt. Owings was sent to the 10-Day Disabled List, but it is believed that he will miss 4-8 weeks.

The Dbacks have recalled 3B Devin Marrero from Triple-A Reno to take Owings spot.

                    APRIL 5, 7-8: ARIZONA (7-2) @ ST. LOUIS (3-6)

                    April 5: Arizona 5, St. Louis 3 (13)
                    April 7: Arizona 5, St. Louis 2
                    April 8: Arizona 4, St. Louis 0

The Arizona Diamondbacks spoiled the St. Louis Cardinals home opener on Thursday evening with a 5-3 extra inning win. Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run off of Sam Tuivailala in the top of the 13th inning and Fernando Salas locked it down in the bottom half as the DBacks improved to (5-2). Paul DeJong and Jedd Gyoko hit back-to-back homers in the seventh off of starter Patrick Corbin to tie the game at 3-3. A.J. Pollock went 1 for 4 with another home run, his 4th on the young season.

Game two featured a 90 minute rain delay in the bottom of the fifth inning that knocked Robbie Ray out of the game. Ray pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out five. A.J. Pollock homered for the third consecutive game with a two run shot in the first inning off of Luke Weaver. RBI singles from Ketel Marte and Nick Ahmed in the third and fourth innings gave the DBacks a 4-0 lead heading into the rain delay. Jedd Gyorko hit a two-run shot to right in the seventh off of Shelby Miller to cut the lead to 4-2. Jarrod Dyson would tack on a run with an RBI single in the eighth. Archie Bradley worked a perfect ninth to pick up his second save,

Arizona completed the sweep on Sunday afternoon behind a masterful pitching performance from Zack Godley. He tossed seven shutout innings, scattering three hits, while striking out seven and walking just one. Godley (2-0) has tossed 14 shutout innings to open the year. Alex Avila provided the offense as he homered twice, hitting a two-run shot in the fourth and a solo home run in the sixth.

First place Arizona will now head to San Francisco for a three game series with the Giants (4-5).

                      APRIL 9-11: ARIZONA (10-2) @ SAN FRANCISCO (4-8)

                      April 9: Arizona 6, San Francisco 4 (11)
                      April 10: Arizona 7, San Francisco 0
                      April 11: Arizona 3, San Francisco 2

The Arizona Diamondbacks ran their winning streak to five games on Monday evening as they outlasted the San Francisco Giants 6-4 in 11 innings. Ketel Marte drove in the game winner with an RBI single to right, scoring Jake Lamb. But the story in this one was the DBacks bullpen. Five pitchers combined to throw 6 2/3 scoreless innings with Andrew Chafin picking up his first win and Archie Bradley earning his third save. Alex Avila kept his hot hitting going with a two-run double. AJ Pollock's home run streak ended at three games, but he went 2 for 4 with a double and run scored.

Zack Greinke (3-0) dominated once again, throwing seven shutout innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks shutout the San Francisco Giants 7-0 in game two of their three game series. It was the DBacks sixth consecutive victory. The offense got some unlikely help as both Jeff Mathis and Steven Souza Jr hit solo home runs in the fourth inning It was the first home run for both players. AJ Pollock hit two doubles and drove in two more runs as his torrid start to the 2018 season continues.

The Dbacks used some ninth inning magic to extend their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday afternoon. Alex Avila came through with a bases loaded two-run single in the ninth as the DBacks rallied to defeat and sweep the San Francisco Giants. This was a pitchers duel, tied at 1-1 into the seventh. Buster Posey broke the deadlock with a pinch hit RBI single to right, scoring Brandon Crawford. It looked like the Giants would end their own losing streak, as well as the Dbacks winning streak, but it wasn't to be. Mark Melancon could not hold onto the lead in the ninth, while Archie Bradley sent down the Giants in order in the ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Arizona (10-2) will have Thursday off before starting a three game weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-5) down in LA.

                              APRIL 13-15: ARIZONA (11-4) @ LOS ANGELES DODGERS (9-6)

                              April 13: Los Angeles 2, Arizona 1
                              April 14: Los Angeles 1, Arizona 0
                              April 15: Arizona 5, Los Angeles 3 (15)

The Los Angeles Dodgers took the opening game of a three game weekend series 2-1, snapping Arizona's seven game winning streak. Kiki Hernandez drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh, beating out a double play grounder and advancing to second on a wild throw from Nick Ahmed, allowing Autin Barnes to score. Kenley Jansen came on in the top of the ninth, and tightroped to the save, stranding Steven Souza Jr at third base to end the game.

Robbie Ray (1-1) was the tough luck loser for Arizona. He went 6 1/3 strong innings, allowing the two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out four. Cory Seager's 11 game hitting streak for Los Angeles came to an end as he went 0 for 3 with a walk.

The Dodgers were able to take game two of the series by a 1-0 score, handing Arizona their first series loss on the year. An unearned run off of Fernando Salas in the bottom of the eigth proved to be the difference. Jake Lamb threw wide to Paul Goldschmidt allowing Chris Taylor to reach. Cory Seager then lined a ball to right center that AJ Pollock dove for and almost made a game saving catch, but the ball came loose and Taylor was able to score. Kenley Jansen then shut down the DBacks in the ninth to pick up his fourth save.

Lost in the loss was another great pitching performance from Zack Godley. He pitched seven shutout innings, striking out nine, walking two and allowing just two hits. He has not allowed a run in 2018 in three starts.

The Arizona Diamondbacks salvaged the final game of the series in Los Angeles, but it wasn't easy. They had to go 15 innings before David Peralta blasted a two-run home run, his second of the game, off of Kenley Jansen to put the DBacks in front. Archie Bradley came on and allowed two runners to reach base, but was able to lock down his fifth save on the season. The Dodgers Justin Turner hit a two-run home run off of Yoshihisa Hirano with two outs in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3. Those were the first runs allowed by the Japanese reliever in nine appearances.

The win kept the DBacks (11-4) in first place as they ended their nine game road trip at (7-2). They will return home to take on San Francisco after a well deserved off day tomorrow.

Kenley Jansen saved two games, and lost a third.
