Vermont Blasted by Renegades in Series Finale, Swept at Home

Burlington, VT - It was a rainy, windy backdrop Thursday night as the Lake Monsters and Hudson Valley Renegades closed out their three game series. A series Vermont will be happy to be through with after losing 9-1, and dropping three straight in a series sweep.

Despite taking an early lead in the 1st inning thanks to a sac fly from Matt Golda, the Lake Monsters offense would manage just six more base runners in the game. Renegades starter Jake Ryan would go 5.1 innings earning the win, allowing just the one run and striking out seven.

It was a 2-1 game in the top half of the 6th inning when Hudson Valley catcher Nate Soria smacked a three run homerun off of reliever Ryan Williamson really breaking open the game.

If not for some bad luck in the ninth inning, the score no doubt would look much better. A strike out, passed ball would lead to four unearned runs being scored, cementing the sweep with a twisting dagger. To make matters just a little worse, there was a 19 minute rain delay in that 9th inning.

In the game, Vermont OF Anthony Churlin was injured running the bases. Still no word on his injury.

With the loss, Vermont falls to 3-4 on the season, three games behind the first place Tri-City ValleyCats who have yet to lose since their first loss to the Lake Monsters. Speaking of, Vermont hits the old thruway and heads to Troy, NY for a three game set with said ValleyCats, before enjoying their first off day.

      From the Managers Desk

Well that was a series to forget, whoof, especially after I was just talking up our pitching performances before it began. Luckily for us it's still early in the season, so a sweep isn't the end of the world. It just doesn't get easier as we head down to Troy and take on the 6-1 ValleyCats.

I was ok with losing the first two how we did, extra innings, four and a half hour long games, we fought until the end. Tough ball games. That last loss, I just feel like we bagged it. I don't know if our guys were looking forward towards the Tri-City series or what? Just disappointed for sure.

Really the passed two games were the first time our offense didn't show up as a collective. Marcos Brito and Anthony (Churlin) are raking, so hopefully we can get Churlin back out there soon.

We got good news on the injury front with OF Anthony Churlin, after leaving the game Thursday while running the bases, it turns out he just has a little swelling in the ankle, nothing to major.

Thats about all I got for today, on to Tri-City, and put this series behind us. Below I'll let you guys know who we are facing these next three games, we got Posh Spice (Jared Poche') on the bump tonight, so you can say I'm a little confident.

Brandon Withers and Calvin Coker threw five innings of shutout ball in relief for the Lake Monsters, though the offense could never get it going.

Jose Bravo earned the win for Try-City. With the loss Vermont falls to 4-6 on the season. They will head back home and hope to bounce back vs the Connecticut Tigers.

Damn guys, every time they make me sit down and right these things it is literally the last thing on my mind. I hope this is a minor league thing, better yet a Penn-League thing. Because we are STRUGGLING. And writing a little paragraph about sucking is not very appealing.

That first week of the season I really thought I saw who we were as a team, a five game losing streak didn't even seem possible, but here we are.

It definitely isn't fun to get swept, at any level. I have to give it to Connecticut they really got to our pitchers this series. That team certainly can hit. I was a little disappointed how we came out that final game, losing 8-0. They had punched us in the mouth twice already, and put the cherry on top with that shutout.

Luckily for us, Staten Island is coming to town and they are sitting in last place over in their division, with the same record as us. Hopefully the next time I have to write one of these we have won a game or two.

                      Until then.
