Lakers Edge Nets for Series Lead

The Lakers threw several knockout punches right from the tip-off, and with a big early lead they cruised to a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

Pau Gasol came through for the Lakers, helping them capture a game lead with 2 more home games remaining

Kobe Bryant lead all scorers with 34, and his 18 point first half performance allowed the Lakers to take a 19 point lead into half-time, and eventually roll to a victory. He got help from Pau Gasol, who dominated down low with 22 points and from Ron Artest who banged 3 threes and scored 19 on the night. The inside game for the Lakers hurt the Nets all game long as Gasol and Bynum combined for 26 rebounds, and the Lakers took a +20 rebounding edge. Even with Patrick Patterson getting more minutes to help with size, the Lakers still were the beasts in the paint. LeBron James had 28, 7, and 7, and while most would say that looks like a successful night, he was too passive for this Nets team during the first half, and it allowed for the Lakers to take a big lead. LeBron only had 2 points in the opening half, and 26 in the second when it was too late for the Nets. Dwyane Wade had 21, but had an off shooting day, as Kobe held him in check for most of the night. Devin Harris scored 17 at the point guard position, and Brook Lopez managed 13 points. After getting down to 15-4 early, the Nets couldn't score, and the Lakers defense helped them take a 50-31 lead at the break. The 3rd quarter was filled with Nets turnovers and easy fast breaks for the Lakers, and the Nets couldn't cut into the lead. In the 4th, LeBron woke up but couldn't instrument a come back until late in the game when it was too late, and they fell 8 points short.

These two have been astronomical for the Lakers' success so far this series

The Nets still have 2 more games to go in L.A., and they need to at least steal 1, to insure that they will return to New Jersey. If the Lakers continue to protect their home floor, the series will be over, and the Lakers will be the NBA champions. Lawrence Frank will make another adjustment before Game 4, inserting Courtney Lee into the starting line-up instead of Patterson, in order to go small, and force the Lakers to respect the 3 ball, something which the Nets only hit twice during Game 3.

If Lawrence Frank can't bring the title home to New Jersey, he will be on the hot seat

      Game 4

Lakers Win in OT; Take 3-1 lead

The Lakers have grabbed complete control of the NBA Finals, after avoiding defeat in regulation in Game 4, and coming up victorious in OT. The Nets now trail 3-1, with a game remaining in L.A., and if necessary two games back in New Jersey.

Kobe continues his red-hot post season run, this time scoring 33 in the key victory

The Nets had their shot at victory, as they had lead most of the game, despite giving up a 15 point lead at half-time. LeBron James had an isolation with 10 seconds left, and the game tied, against a premier defender in Ron Artest. James tried to force his way past Artest, but could not get by, and settled for an 18 footer over Artest. The ball hit back rim, and the game would go to OT. The Lakers and Nets battled for 3 minutes exchanging leads. LeBron and Wade were mostly the whole entire Nets' offense, while the Lakers were lead by Kobe and a heavy dose of Pau Gasol. A Kobe 3, with a minute left gave the Lakers a 3 point lead and LeBron missed a wide open one at the other end. The Nets held their own on the defensive end, as they forced Kobe to miss a tough jumper, and then drew up their own play after a timeout. Dwyane Wade was given the ball at the wing, and received a quick pick from Brook Lopez. Wade got open in the lane, but kicked it to Devin Harris with 15 seconds left. Harris shot the jumper, but it rattled out, and the Kobe grabbed the board. Kobe would only hit one free throw, and Keyon Dooling tried to hit a quick 3 to get the Nets within 1, but it missed and time expired. The Lakers had won Game 4.

Devin Harris' game tying 3 barely missed.

Kobe had 33 and 8 assists to help out the Lakers, but the inside game was dominant against the Nets. Pau Gasol had 22 and 14, while Bynum had 9 and 14. Lamar Odom also had 11, as the Lakers slipped past the Nets. LeBron lead the Nets with 35, 6, and 7, while he got help from Wade with 24, Brook Lopez with 14 and 14, and Harris who struggled but finished with 11. Game 5 will be the Lakers' chance to win the NBA Finals in front of their home crowd, and escape going back to New Jersey. The Nets need to steal one in L.A., and then win both at home to win the Larry O'Brien trophy.

After the game LeBron talked about his disappointment in not finishing the Lakers off.

                Game 5

                @

                111 - 96

Nets Pummel Lakers to Send Series Back to New Jersey

New Jersey was on the brink of elimination, and the Lakers were on the brink of their 16th NBA championship. However, the Nets came to play during Game 5, and helped make the series 3-2, and now await possibly 2 more games at the Izod Center.

Devin Harris had 18 and 15, helping the Nets force a Game 6

Before the game Lawrence Frank told his team that he would let them play there game. Meaning he'd tone down the plays, and let the Net players run their own offense. The game plan ran to perfection, as the Nets offense boomed in the victory. It started off with a 10-0 run to start the game, as the Nets hit their first 5 shots, all off of fast breaks. Kobe would slow the Nets down though, as he had 8 in the first quarter, and the Lakers caught up to make it 29-21. The 2nd quarter, Wade and James looked a little passive, and the Lakers took advantage. Lamar Odom came in and gave the Lakers a boost on offense, and the Lakers held a 1 point lead at the half. At the third quarter however, the Nets put their effort into the defensive end. After each defensive stop, Wade and LeBron were running. Harris was feeding them, and they grabbed an 11 point lead at the end of the third. In the final period, the Lakers couldn't do much. LeBron and Wade were hitting triples and they held a 12 point lead with 2 minutes left. Kobe felt that he had to do something. He started off by hitting a 3 in Wade's face, but LeBron answered with one of his own. Then Kobe hit two straight step back 3's to cut it to 8. But after these threes, he cooled down, and the Nets went on a rampage. Wade stripped Kobe as he shot a 3, and finished it with a ferocious jam. LeBron grabbed a rebound and took it coast to coast. The Nets had run away with it, eventually winning it by 15 in L.A. The Nets had new life in the NBA Finals, going back to East Rutherford to end the series.

Bryant did all he could, but the Lakers failed to win the title at their own home court

Kobe lead all scorers with 33 points, but the duo of Dwyane Wade and LeBron James combined for 57 points as Wade had 29, and James finished with 28. Devin Harris, who has dominated Steve Blake all series long, had 18 and 15, in a much needed performance out of him. Brook Lopez had 12 and 10, and Patrick Patterson came up big as he also had 12 points. Pau Gasol had 19 and 11, and Odom helped him out in the front court with 13 points. Game 6 will be in front of a rowdy Nets crowd, hungry for their first championship in a long time. The pressure will be on for Lebron and Dwyane. Win and be remembered as heros, lose and be apart of the biggest disappointment in NBA history. The NBA Finals is in full steam.

Dwyane Wade had 29 to help the Nets win, then spoke of how his team needs to bring a similar effort for Game 6 and Game 7

                  Epic Finals is Shaping Up

Kobe. LeBron. Wade. It's the NBA Finals! How does that not get you pumped for Game 6 and possibly a Game 7!?!?! I mean we get to watch the 3 best players in the league (Sorry Carmelo and Durant, Kobe just kicked you out) at the biggest stage of them all.

We get to see Kobe go for his 5th ring, in his quest to get 6 to match Jordan. Then you have LeBron who is trying to win his first, after disasters happened in Cleveland. And the funny thing is, he has more pressure here in New Jersey than he did in Cleveland. Cleveland almost expected to lose. Nets fans and the whole entire NBA, will bash LeBron if he doesn't win the title, especially with Wade as his sidekick, and a supporting cast that would've beat his old Cavs supporting cast 9 out of 10 times.

Yep Kobe, if you win you can add 1 more

Everyone remembers the historical upset when the 8 seeded Bobcats beat the heavy favorite Cavs lead by LeBron. Unfortunately for LeBron losing this year would be worse.

So Kobe has the chance to cement his legacy. Put the Shaq-Kobe feud, the Colorado incident, the trade demands to Chicago, completely behind him, and win his 5th ring. He can turn to all the haters this year, including me, and basically stick a middle finger to their face. Despite the nagging small injuries, and the fact that his athleticism has dropped off, he can still do it. 30 ppg in the playoffs, better than the rest of the NBA. The man can still win, and if he can beat this Nets team or as I like to call them, the Eastern Conference All-Stars, then he is in fact the greatest player in the league, and on the same scale as Jordan.

LeBron has everything in the world riding on these last two games. And during Game 5 he showed it, playing like his life was on the line. Critics slammed him, after the Bobcats shocked the Cavs in 6 games, in a classic 8 over 1 upset. However, many fans blamed it on Danny Ferry as they thought a supporting cast of Mo Williams, Michael Redd, Anderson Varejao, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas wasn't going to cut it. Many, like I believed that. LeBron believed that, after all he did average 32 ppg in that series. So him and Wade teamed up in New Jersey for Prokhorov and Jay-Z's riches. This team was supposed to be unstoppable. They beat L.A. by 40 in L.A. Yet now the Lakers are up 3-2 on them, and one more win means disaster for him. It will mean he can't win. He just can't win even with Wade. But if Lawrence Frank is smart, they will avoid this and celebrate a title.

LeBron and Wade seem to struggle from time to time, but then all of a sudden pick it up. But it is not effort as some will believe. No, it is because they are both super stars who have never been in this situation before. During big stretches of the game, who gets the ball? LeBron, Wade, or somebody else who has a match-up advantage? Nobody knows, especially Lawrence Frank. You saw this happen in Games 1 and 3. But the Nets need to stop thinking about that, like they did in Game 2, 4, and 5. In those games they just played. If Devin Harris had the ball he didn't look for Wade or LeBron to get them shots up. No he'd take what he had, whether it was going by Steve Blake (which is just too easy for him), or finding an open shooter. When Wade had the ball he'd look to score, or create something. Same with LeBron, Brook Lopez, and heck Patrick Patterson. So if Lawrence Frank was smart, he'd stop having them run plays to get somebody going, and just play their own style of basketball, which he did for 3 games, 2 of which he won.

But here is what scares me. The Nets did this, and they won in a blow out, but barely won Game 2, and lost Game 4. This means one thing, the Lakers can stop the Nets even when they play their own style of play, which was unstoppable in the regular season. Yes, I don't think they lost a game when they did this. But the Lakers can stop it. Kobe can match LeBron and Wade, and stop them from fast-breaking by making shots. The Zen Master, Phil Jackson, has out smarted Frank, and has given the Lakers and advantage.

Now, we are set for 2 pivotal games, games that will decide a new championship and the way we perceive super stars. It will be Kobe vs. LeBron and Wade. Phil Jackson vs. Lawrence Frank. Lakers vs. Nets. It's the NBA Finals!
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

                    Nets Owner Accused of Fraud

The Nets billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov is being investigated for fraud ESPN.com reports. No evidence has come out yet, but if proven guilty the New Jersey Nets could be in troubled waters.

To sign LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the Nets exceeded salary cap space and went into luxury tax. Luxury tax is when an owner has to pay the contract straight out of his own pocket. Prokhorov was able to sign the two all-stars with his own money. However, if he is found guilty of fraud the Nets won't be able to afford these James and Wade, and will be forced to try and free Cap space to keep them. If they are unsuccessful, then the Nets will possibly have to give them up for the best offer.

In the midst of the NBA Finals, this is a huge distraction for the New Jersey Nets. LeBron James will try to capture his first ever NBA title in these next two games, while being unsure of his future. This will all be interesting to see how it plays out.

Despite Distractions Nets Top Lakers in OT; Force Game 7

Before tip-off of Game 6, all Wade and LeBron had heard was that their future with this Nets team was uncertain. Many wondered if this would affect their play. The answer is that it will not.

Prokhorov has put this Nets organization in danger with financial issues and distractions during the NBA Finals

The Lakers started off the game strong, and it looked as if Kobe would blow the Nets away early. He had 12 in the first half, nailing two 3s and getting to the free throw line. However, the LeBron-lead Nets would come back in the 2nd quarter to bring themselves within 1 at the break. In the third quarter, the Lakers extended their lead to 8, by getting a heavy dose of points inside from Pau Gasol. Together, Gasol and Bryant troubled the Nets defense, and took a decent lead heading into the 4th. In the 4th, the Nets would fight back and eventually tie it up. Devin Harris hit a pair of triples, Wade had some ferocious dunks on the fast break, and LeBron started hitting the trey ball. Before the Lakers could stop it, the Nets were up 6 with 2 minutes to go. Kobe then started to do his work, posting up, and hitting fadeaways. He hit two straight on D-Wade, then drove for another bucket. Down 2, with a minute left, LeBron missed a three over Artest, and Steve Blake went coast to coast for a lay-up with 20 seconds left. Dwyane Wade then wasted the remaining seconds in the game, until he tried to isolate Bryant. Wade took a fadeaway in the corner, but it clanked off the back rim, and the game went to OT. In overtime, the Nets fast break continued to stay hot, as Wade kept getting open lay-ups. Kobe tried to keep up, but he couldn't do it by himself. Gasol became cold, and Ron Artest missed two wide-open threes. The Nets were up 3, when Kobe stole a pass and found Steve Blake open for an easy triple with a minute left. From there though, the Nets finished strong. LeBron James had a nice dunk, then hit a jumper to ice the game, and send it to a Game 7. Kobe tried to mount a comeback but missed a tough 3, and the Nets came up victorious.

LeBron came up big for the Nets in possibly the biggest game of his career, forcing a Game 7

LeBron had 35 for the Nets, and Wade had 28 as they seemed to ignore the rumors of them leaving this off-season. Devin Harris had 11 and 10, and Brook Lopez finished with 15 and 12. Kobe had 33, and Pau Gasol totaled 24 points in the hard fought loss. Lamar Odom also came off the bench to score 15, but the rest of the Lakers team struggled to put the ball in the basket. Now, the NBA Finals has a dramatic Game 7 ahead in New Jersey. Will the Lakers steal the show, and silence the crowd winning their 16th NBA Championship, or will LeBron win his first title, and guide the Nets back to glory?

Bryant and Gasol did what they could during Game 6, but others such as Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest need to step up

Lakers Outlast Nets in a Classic; Win 16th NBA championship

There's Jordan's shot against Ehlo, and against the Jazz. Robert Horry's triples against the Kings and Pistons. Magic Johnson's sky hook, and now Kobe Bryant's step back jumper in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Kobe's buzzer beater ranks among the all-time greatest shots of all time

From the tip-off, of the most important NBA Basketball game of the season, the Nets controlled the game. Dwyane Wade started off on fire, scoring 15 of the Nets' first 19 points. Kobe Bryant however, was there to keep the Lakers close, scoring 11 in the first. The game was extremely up-tempo, as the Nets reached 36 at the end of the first, holding a 10 point lead. LeBron and Wade both continued to scorch the Lakers' D, and the Lakers couldn't get much offense going. Devin Harris hit two threes then to end the half, one at the buzzer, as the Nets held a 16 point lead at the break. The Nets weren't done though, and in the first quarter they continued to stretch their lead. Wade continued his monster performance having 36 at the end of the 3rd. Midway through the quarter, the Nets held a 80-51 lead, but the Lakers made a min run to cut it to 14 heading into the 4th. In the 4th, the Lakers continued their hot stretch. Kobe, who was keeping the Lakers close all night, kept hitting big jumpers, and Andrew Bynum exploded, scoring 26 points in the second half. Bynum dominated Lopez down low, posting him up, and getting easy dunks. The Lakers were only down 6, but LeBron and Wade kept getting to the rim easily, and getting good looks in transition. With the shot clock winding down, Wade had to force a 40 footer, a shot that hit the bottom of the net.

Still, Kobe answered Wade scoring 10 points in the final 5 minutes of the game. Down 5, Bryant hit a mid-range jumper with a minute and a half left. Devin Harris missed an open 3, and Steve Blake riskily pulled up for a 3 on a 2 on 1 fastbreak. The risk paid off as Blake nailed the 3, tying the game up. Wade however, would come back, going by Kobe, and dunking it over Patrick Patterson in a play that will be on highlights for years to come. The crowd went crazy, but Andrew Bynum came back, as he got hacked trying to score down low. He hit 1 of 2, as the Nets held a 1 point lead. But Wade kept being spectacular as he got into the paint, and once again dunked it as the defense moved out of his way trying to avoid an unnecessary foul. Down 3 with 12 seconds left, the Lakers called time out and drew up a play. Kobe Bryant got the ball at the top of the key, and received a screen from Gasol. The screen didn't help, and Devin Harris came for the double team. Kobe couldn't get open, and as the time got to a couple seconds left, he tried for a step back 3, surrounded by Net defenders. Kobe's desperation three ball, shocked the crowd, as it went in as the buzzer sounded.

The Laker team celebrated, as the Nets and their crowd were in silent shock. Perhaps, the biggest shot in NBA history had been made in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Still, business was to be handled in OT, but the Nets were still furious at blowing their 21 point lead. The Lakers outscored them 13-6 in OT, as Ron Artest hit two 3's, and Lamar Odom finished the game with a jam over Brook Lopez to the excitement of Lakers fans, and the dismay of the Nets. The Lakers had shocked the world, as they came behind from 21, and Kobe had hit an improbable shot to keep the Lakers alive. From there, they won their 16th NBA championship.

Kobe and the other Lakers celebrated their historic championship victory

Dwyane Wade finished with an astonishing 51 points in an amazing Game 7 NBA Finals performance, but the Nets came up short. Kobe had 43, and he was helped out with Andrew Bynum who had 30, Lamar Odom with 16, Pau Gasol had 14 and 12, while Steve Blake added 10. LeBron James helped Wade out with 38 but this series will be viewed as a dissapointment for Wade and James, as they fail to reach their ultimate goal; win the NBA title. Kobe Bryant has won his 5th ring, and is now one shy of Michael Jordan, and the title of best player of all time could be changed in the next coming years. The Lakers are once again on top of the world, while the Nets are filled with anger for blowing Game 7's lead, and are now heading into a controversial off-season.

It pains me to see LA have success, but at least it was a legendary game.
