Thanks for the support. I always get agitated by my team's AI, I think that's been the case why I lost those 1st two games. I have the coach settings to make my players play tight D, but the let cross court passes happen all the time. That and they can't stop the other team from getting offensive rebounds seem to be the biggest issues. (Not to mention the lack of forced turnovers).

        Colgate Recruiting Update
        italics have been offered scholarships

        1. 5-9 PG Benjamin Whitworh - Bronx, NY - #113 PG/#329 OVR - Colgtate #2 (63%)
        2. 6-8 PF Sherray Hopkins - Bridgeport, CT - Not Ranked - Colgate #3 (85%)
        3. 6-0 PG Wade Hill - Queens, NY - #126 PG/#538 OVR - Colgate #5 (40%)
        4. 6-7 PF Alassane Love - Bronx, NY - #111 PF/#638 OVR - Colgate #3 (55%)
        5. 6-11 C Gerad Detrick - Chicago, IL - Not Ranked - Colgate #2 (47%)
        6. 6-8 PF Nick Hart - Jamaica - Not Ranked - Colgate #1 (18%)

After re-evaluating their team needs, Coach Coley and his staff has removed 3 PF Royce Quinn, 2 C Ronny Brooks, and 2 PG Darmetreis Childress from his recruiting board. These three players have all expressed greater interest in other schools, and Coach Coley feels it's better to focus on other options.

"When I spoke with the recruits, they told me that there were other schools they were more interested in. We still have people on our board who held Colgate higher in their lists, so we felt that we should pursue those players."

New to Colgate's recruiting board is 6-8 Jamaican PF Nick Hart. Hart is rated as a 3 PF, but have not received any interest from other schools, Coach Coley plans to send an assistant out this week to scout Hart and come back with a more detailed analysis. Hart did not participate in the summer ABL league.

          Colgate (0-2) at Marist (2-2)
McCann Field House - Poughkeepsie, NY

Still looking for their first win of the season, the Colgate Raiders continued to play away from home as they took of the Red Foxes of Marist College.

Marist jumps out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to back-to-back turnovers from Mike Venezia, but Colgate would regain their composure at keep themselves in the ball game. Both teams struggled to hang onto the ball early in the game, as they each committed eight turnovers in the first half.

Coach Coley was irate at the lack of fouls in the first half. The referees were clearly letting the kids play despite the fact that some plays warranted a whistle that never came. In fact, both coaches voice their concerns as just six free throws were taken in the first half.(4 by Marist, 2 by Colgate)

Brandon James struggled in the first 20 minutes, hitting just 1-of-5 shots from the floor and going into the locker room with 3 points. On the other hand, Nick Pascale was carrying Colgate with 14 points and 5 rebounds off 7-of-13 shooting. Only four Raiders had scored in the 1st half (James, Pascale, Johnson, Bradenburg).

Colgate came out strong and confident in the second half, and within eight minutes erased their seven point halftime deficit to tie the game at 38-38. Coach Coley elected to move James to the PF spot to open the half, allowing his big men more rest and also allowing the Raiders to space the floor.

Eventually, Marist made the necessary adjustments and it looked as if they would finally secure hold of the lead. Colgate made a frantic attempt to comeback in the final three minutes, but a turnaround jumper from Korey Bauer put the Red Foxes up by eight and sealed Colgate's third loss of the season.

Coach's Comments: "We put up a hell of a fight. I was disappointed by our turnovers, I feel like that was a big factor in keeping us from stealing their momentum and getting back in the game. Nick had a great game, he's been working the pick and roll like there's no tomorrow. I do wish we could have gotten to the foul line, I felt like there were a couple plays where there should have been a call, but there wasn't. Just one of those games where you have to tip your hat and move on. I want my boys to win a game, we should've had this one."

Side Notes...Marist committed just two fouls all game, Colgate had eight...Colgate outscored Marist 48-32 in the paint

C'mon Colgate!! Lets get this first win to get your team some momentum. Its amazing how realistic it is, when the more your winning the more confidence they get = better they play. When you drop a couple back to back they start playing bad! First wins the most important! LETS GO!!!!

                VS
                #4 South Alabama (1-1) vs #5 Colgate (0-3)
                Honda Center - Anaheim, CA
Heading into the first round of the Anaheim Classic, Coach Coley emphasized to his team to get back to playing their style, a slow-paced, pick and roll game that would allow them to stay in the game with tough teams.

                Clearly they didn't listen.

Colgate coughed up the ball 23 times, shot 22% from the arc, and allowed 60 points in the paint as South Alabama wiped the floor with them 102-65.

Coach Coley was irate for most of the game, seen on the sidelines screaming at his players to get their heads in the game. Nothing he tried would work and South Alabama just looked unstoppable.

Coach's Comments: "They had 23 fast break points and 60 points in the paint. That's inexcusable. If these guys aren't going to play defense and get back then I'll find players who will. This is ridiculous. So many things I saw wrong with our team. Not to mention that South Alabama was running a 3/4 court press when they were up by 20 with about five minutes to go. What type of crap is that? *scratches head* Plain and simple we played like trash tonight. Maybe if we held onto the ball we could win a few games. But it's not up to me, it's up to the players who execute on the floor. I can't win the game for them, I can only tell them what needs to be done."

For some strange reason whenever I sub my starting C and PF out the game, if I call quick pick and roll on offense the PF comes over to set the pick instead of the C (the C normally sets the pick when my starters are in). I can't figure out how to fix that.

Looks like a rough start so far for your Raiders. Maybe San Diego, from the (larger than Patriot League) West Coast Conference, will get you that all-important first win of the season. Good luck!

Yeah it's been rough. My sliders are actually pretty even, but on MOP difficulty it feels like I have to be perfect the entire game to get a win. It sucks that I can't get the right pass I want in certain situations (like when my players tried to bounce pass between two defenders instead of throwing it up), so my turnovers pile up from getting a little frustrated and playing the style of my opponent instead of playing my game. I've been forced to abuse the pick and roll because that's the only way I'm getting people open.

I really hope win #1 comes soon, otherwise I won't be at Colgate very long.

                          #5 Colgate (0-4) vs #8 San Diego (1-3)
                          Honda Center - Anaheim, CA

After a horrendous loss in the opening round of the Anaheim Classic, Coach Coley and the Colgate Raiders found themselves still looking for their first win of the season. Would it come against the San Diego Toreros?

San Diego would strike first in this one, using a 10-2 run to take a 23-14 lead with a little over eight minutes to play. Coach Coley would use a timeout to calm his guys down and it worked beautifully, allowing Colgate to go a 12-2 run of their own and take the lead. The momentum swung back and forth for the rest of the half and San Diego went into the locker rooms with a 35-32 lead. Brandon James and Chad Johnson each had 10 points to lead the Raiders.

The second half was a whole different story.

Despite Chad Johnson literally being on fire from the floor, Colgate couldn't stop San Diego from scoring and the deficit kept growing. And growing. And growing. It wasn't until the final buzzer sounded that the pain ended for Colgate as they fell to 0-5 with a 88-65 loss.

Coach's Comments: "Any loss is a tough loss, so I'm not going to point this game out specifically as a tough loss. We hung in there for a while, just couldn't make it to the end of the game. And yes that's disappointing. My guys want to win, I know they do. We just need to practice on getting a full 40 minutes out of ourselves so we can get out there and keep ourselves in position to win. And we'll get more support from the bench as well if we can do that. Rome wasn't built in a day, it's going to take time. How long depends on our effort."

                                Honda Center - Anaheim, CA

Entering the 7th place game of the Anaheim Classic, Colgate faced the challenge of playing the Mississippi State Bulldogs. While the Bulldogs have underperformed this season - with losses to both UC Irvine and Southern Illinois - they still posed a huge threat to Colgate's chances of getting their first win.

Naturally, that's why everyone in the stadium was shocked when halftime came around and Colgate was down just 2 points. Chad Johnson had led the way with 15 points, as Colgate controlled the tempo and kept Mississippi State within reach.

But as usual, Colgate blew up in the second half and will earn an 8th place finish in the 2010 Anaheim Classic with a 74-55 loss.

Whatever Colgate did right in the first half, went horribly wrong in the second. The Bulldogs began to force turnovers and get into a fast break offense that was too much for Colgate to handle.

With yet another loss to add to their record, Colgate will continue to play for their first win of the season. Up next is a visit from the Cornell Big Red (2-1) to end the month of November.

Coach's Comments: "We played hard...for about 20, 25 minutes. I'm sick of losing. I don't have anything I want to say."

Game Notes: Colgate had 14 turnovers to just 13 assists...Mississippi State's bench outscored Colgate's bench 26-9. Mississippi State had 20 of their 24 fast break points in the second half.
...John Brandenburg became the first Colgate player to foul out of a game this season, doing so with 2:41 left in the game...Sterling Melville hit a buzzer beater from half court to end the first half
