Yeah, I was surprised to see those numbers for a 2* player so I figured I might as well snag him. His potential is only a C though, so I have the strangest feeling that his overall isn't going to be higher than 65, maybe a little lower than that. It sucks because I only have 3 players on my roster with an overall at 65 or over (Johnson - 68, James - 67, Venezia - 65), and then outside of 3 more at 64, all my other players are under 55.

I'm just glad I'm getting size, my current roster is way too small for my liking and it's killing me in these games.

        Saint Peter's (2-6, 0-1) at Colgate (0-9, 0-0)
        Cotterell Court - Hamilton, NY

        FRUSTRATION

HAMILTON -- For 37 minutes, the Colgate Raiders held Saint Peter's guard Blaise Ffrench in check.

The last three were an entirely different story.

Ffrench scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, including 12 points from three pointers on four consecutive possessions as a two point game turned into an 85-71 win for the Peacocks.

"I was never worried about my shots falling." said Ffrench. "I was taking good shots, it was only a matter of time before they would go in, and it happened when we needed it most."

Ffrench is the second leading scorer on Saint Peter's, but no one on the team averages double figures in that category. Nick Leon (15) and Steven Samuels (10) joined Ffrench in scoring 10 or more points on the night.

Colgate (0-10) utilized a 2-3 zone defense for the majority of the game and the gameplan seemed to work effectively, as Saint Peter's shot just 37% at halftime and the Raiders held onto a five point advantage.

But the lead quickly evaporated in the first few minutes of the second half and a fast break lay-up from Leon gave the Peacocks their first lead of the game since the opening basket.

Colgate led by as much as 11 points.

"It was a great game from our guys." said Colgate head coach Tyrell Coley. "We did a great job executing our gameplan, the other team just started to make the same shots they were missing all throughout the game. It's tough when that's happens."

The zone defense let centers Nick Pascale and John Brandenburg tower over the Saint Peter's forwards - the Peacocks have no players taller than 6'7". Pascale had a double double with 12 points and 18 rebounds while Brandenburg added 14 points and seven rebounds, while missing just one shot.

Brandon James led the Raiders with 23 points.

Saint Peter's (3-6) forced ten turnovers in the second half, compared to just three in the first twenty minutes. The bad ball handling by Colgate easily can be noted as the cause for the momentum heading into the Peacocks favor.

Colgate will look to regroup and play just their fourth game on their home floor in a few days as they will take on the Norfolk State Spartans (2-3).

Yeah it's been rough. Going into the game Saint Peter's and Colgate were rated evenly overall (Saint Peter's had the higher defense), but it just seemed like at the end of the game there was a lid on the rim.

The opponents do get a little less difficult in this stretch, so I'm really thinking Colgate can get that elusive win shortly. Really don't want to go into conference play with a donut in the win column.

Lol, ain't nothing wrong with being honest. It's been a rough start to the season. My best players are rated 68 and 67, and I think there are five guys on my team with a rating higher than 64, then there's a ten point drop in the guys off the bench. It's tough, but we're making progress.

This game makes you really look at ratings to use your player's strengths. How deep do you go? I've made a recent change that has paid off -- I go 7 deep in the first half -- if I get a little lead (6 or more) I'll go maybe 9-10 deep. If I blow the game wide open I'll go to 12. This little "trick" has helped me hide the suckiness of my bench.

I only go 8 deep (two of my 54 rated players happened to be two of three that are taller than 6'7" - Bradenburg and Bogdanovic). But I play 20-minute halves so fatigued plays a huge factor as my players will get tired and lose the ability to make wide open shots.

                          FORWARD MELVILLE OUT 1-2 WEEKS

Colgate released a statement today that small forward Sterling Melvillle will be sidelined for about two weeks with a pulled hamstring.

The Raiders would not release information as to when Melville was injured, but his minutes diminished in the last three games. After playing for 16 minutes against St. John's, Melville was only on the floor for eight minutes against Fordham and just one minute against Saint Peter's. Coach Coley has decided to keep Melville on the bench until he is fully healed.

Melville is averaging 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10 games played this season. The junior forward is shooting 41% from the floor.

Man I'm hoping this will be the one. Norfolk's leading scorers don't top eight points a game, but my defense is giving up close to 80 a season. I'm contemplating making the permanent switch to a zone defense, it worked for about 36 minutes against Saint Peter's.
