REMATCH ENDS UP THE SAME FOR BROWN

1/23/14 - Providence, RI: Harvard took care of business on Brown's floor to win in another blowout fashion."Well we obviously aren't going to change our philosophy or anything like that, but our approach will be a bit different in the future."

"This is getting ridiculous," said Rogers, "Our defense in the past couple games has been atrocious and it will need to stop."

Four of the five starters for the Crimson scored in double digits and Okam, the big man, grabbed 11 rebounds.

"They played great team ball on the offensive end and our guys did nothing to stop it," commented Rogers, "We are going to need to make some changes or this season will be a bust."

When asked what kind of changes the coaching staff had in mind, Rogers was not too clear.

Yeesh things have been tough for Brown this season. Hopefully they can pick up the slack as the conference schedule rolls along, they've really been shooting poorly. When it comes down to it, what are you seeing when playing the game that you want to see improvement in?

More offensive production. Normally we play good defense with the exception of this past game to Harvard and the game against William & Mary. It's tough because my best shooter is only about a 74 (Sean McGonigil) and he is currently shooting a whopping 21% from 3. I'm also not getting any scoring from Maclies or Riddle but there defense had kept them in the starting rotation up to this point.

Not really sure if this a spoiler or not but I took Maclies and Riddle out of the starting rotation to try and get more scoring. I'm currently 4 games behind on here and about to be 5 once I start this next game. I will try to get this updated by the end of the weekend.

WRIGHT GETS 20 IN HIS FIRST START OF THE SEASON

Ithaca, NY: Colby Rogers eluded to wanting to make changes after dropping the first couple games in conference play. He took out freshmen Riddle and Maclies and replaced them with Gore and Wright. It apparently was a good decision by the coaching staff as Gore and Wright scored 29 points combined to guide Brown to their first win in conference play.

"We changed up the starting rotation in hopes to get some offense and we got exactly that tonight," said a pleased Rogers, "We are still a team who wins games on the defensive end, but it is nice that we were able to put the ball in the basket tonight."

The Bears exploded in the first half and went into the locker room up 20.

"I felt that we played with a lot of purpose in the first half. We were cutting hard and running our plays beautifully. On defense we played aggressive and smart. We seemed to let up in the second half but we were able to keep them from ever really getting back into the game."

There are now questions of what role that Maclies and Riddle will play coming off the bench.

"They will still be getting minutes just not as many as they have so far this year. Both players will still be crucial to our success, but there will be less pressure for them to score. Now they can just come in and play there game and maybe feel like the spotlight won't be shining as hard on them anymore.

BEARS SNEAK BY PENN TO GET BACK-TO-BACK WINS

1/30/14 - Philadelphia, PA: Although the Penn Quakers managed to out-rebound Brown by 10, the Bears won in the most important category; the score.

"It was a tough game thoroughout," said Rogers, "We definitely did not play our best basketball but we left with a win. At the end of the day that is what matters most."

Sean McGonigil, who has been known as the 3 point specialist for Brown, continued to struggle from behind the arc going 0-3 from deep.

"I'm not exactly sure why he's struggled all year. He hits his shots in practice and last year he shot great from deep. I am confident that he will start to hit sooner rather than later."

Brown has now bounced back to go 2-2 in conference play and looks ahead to two tough games against Dartmouth and Princeton.

"Each team presents a ton of problems and each teams presents different problems than the other team," said Rogers, "Despite getting a new coach, Dartmouth continues to run their triangle and 2 defense. We have had success against their defense in the past and we hope to continue that. Princeton has in my opinion, the best player in the Ivy League, Bobby Garbade. He is 7 ft. and can drain it from deep. Last night he dropped 47 on Yale and earlier today he put up 35 against Columbia."

              BROWN CONTINUES TO ROLL

2/5/14 - Providence, RI: The Bears were able to look past the triangle and 2, 3-2 zone combo by Dartmouth en route to scoring 89 points and ultimately winning the game in dominating fashion.

"I was proud of my guys today and the way they handled the unique style Dartmouth plays tonight," said Rogers, "
Whoever had the advantage in against there defense since someone in the backcourt will always have an opportunity, did outstanding."

Daymond Ravello scored 12 points in the first half, but was unable to score again due to foul trouble and eventually fouling out.

"It was disappointing that Daymond couldn't score again since his career high was 13, but his lackluster defense kept him from getting what could have been a special night for him. Fortunately, Sharkey and McGonigil did outstanding
at the point for the rest of the ga
              me."

Brown will now host Princeton, a team a lot of people predicted to win the Ivy League this year. The Tigers are led by Bobby Garbade, who has averaged 38 points in conference play.

BEARS DEFENSE LEADS TO 4TH STRAIGHT WIN

2/6/14 - Providence, RI: Princeton came into the game led by Junior forward Bobby Garbade who has averaged 38 points in conference play coming into the game against Brown. The Bears held him to just 8 points tonight in a blowout victory.

"I am extremely proud of my guys tonight," said Rogers, "We were able to hold them to something like 28% from the field and about 18% from behind the arc. Specifically, our big guys Wheless and Bozeman did outstanding on Garbade. He did not get a good look at the basket almost the whole night."

Along with keeping Garbade from having another career night, Wheless had one of his most efficient games of his young career.

"Joey dominated them on the offensive end. He took advantage of every opportunity tonight and had, in my opinion, his best game of the year."

Brown now faces off against Yale, who is led by the second leading scorer, Greg Mangano.

"We were able to keep Garbade from scoring and now we have another extremely difficult task in stopping Mangano. His play style is different than Garbade's, but I think we can contain him just the same."

FIRST HALF SUCCESS FOR BROWN ENOUGH FOR 5TH STRAIGHT WIN

2/12/14 - New Haven, CT: Greg Mangano, Yale big man, came into the game as the 2nd leading scorer. And for the second game in a row, Brown was able to keep the leading scorer to just single digits.

"Once again Wheless and Bozeman did an outstanding job with the way they kept Mangano from getting good looks at the basket," said Rogers, "That was probably the difference between winning and losing tonight."

Brown was able to get a big lead in the first half and went into the locker room up 15. However, Yale came out in the second half and cut the lead in half in about 2 minutes.

"They got a couple big 3s by Clayton whom has never been a threat from behind the arc. I am really proud of our guys though for buckling down and even though we struggled for much of the second half, we were able to find a way to win."

With this win the Brown Bears lead the Ivy League for the first time under Colby Rogers' tenure.

"We are only halfway through the schedule and there is a long way to go so this isn't over yet. Just because we are 1st tonight does not mean we will be tomorrow night."

Yea we definitely have hit our stride. It was nice to see that the changes in the starting lineup had a positive impact on the team.

                        Now to post more updates...

BROWN'S STREAK COMES TO A SCREECHING HALT

2/13/14 - New York, NY: The Bears came into the game against Columbia running on a 5 game win streak that was ended today in a big fashion by the Lions.

"They dominated us in essentially every way today," said Rogers, "Our perimeter de
fense today was very lackluster and Frankoski and Lyles went off on us today. We also did not give any effort on the board and consequently we were dominated."

This was the third time that Brown under Colby Rogers has faced off against Columbia in the Lions' gym and still have not won in their gym.

"Yea we still haven't won here so maybe it's just bad luck."

BEARS BOUNCE BACK WITH STRONG SECOND HALF

2/19/14 - Providence, RI: After dropping a game to Columbia, Brown's second half defense was enough to get the season sweep against the Penn Quakers.

"In the first half, our defense on the perimeter was struggling but we made some halftime adjustments and it was enough to sneak by tonight," said Rogers, "I was really proud of the way my guys buckled down in the second half for sure."

Gabe Riddle, who was signed specifically for perimeter defense only got two minutes of playing time.

"Everyone who plays in the game gets the minutes they deserve. I felt that Gabe was not ready for the game due to practice this week. We put in the guys who we feel earned the minutes in practice and in previous games."
