Re: Thunder Struck - NBA 2k12 OKC Thunder Association

LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are primed to challenge for the Western Conference title this season, three years after the core of one of the most promising teams in the league was assembled.

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to stave off father time and make one more one for the title.

Durant scored 33 points to lead the Thunder to a 92-83 victory over the Lakers on opening night.

Russell Westbrook added 22 points, James Harden and Serge Ibaka scored 10 points each for the Thunder in the win.

"We have a lot of guys that can get a basket," Durant said after the game, "I think we feed off each other really well; it's not like guys are being selfish playing one-on-one basketball."

Kobe Bryant scored 38 points on 13 for 30 shooting, and Derek Fisher scored 13 for the Lakers, who were 4 for 21 from 3-point range.

With new coach Mike Brown on the bench, there is a buzz surrounding the Lakers, with many wondering how Bryant will react to someone other Phil Jackson heading the team.

Oklahoma City jumped on the Lakers early leading by 6 after the first quarter and never looked back.

Westbrook was quiet early, but he finished the started the second half with a jaw-dropping flourish. He scored on a layup, knocked down a jumper and then crossed Fisher over so severely that the veteran point guard fell to the ground on a drive that ended with a thunderous slam.

"We let the game come to us," Durant said. "If we continue to do that we'll be fine."

The Thunder won't have time to savor the victory as the play again tomorrow night in Phoenix against Steve Nash and the Suns.

PHOENIX -- Grant Hill and the Phoenix Suns got their 2011-12 NBA off to hot start as they knocked off top Western Conference contender Oklahoma City 90-75.

Hill turned back the clock to scoring 23 points with 5 steals, Steve Nash added 12 points and 8 assists in the 15 point win.

A 36 point second quarter put Phoenix ahead 57-43 at halftime and the Thunder never were unable to close the gap in the second half.

Nash orchestrated the offense as usual and Hill surprised even himself with his offensive outing after he came in focused on trying to slow down Kevin Durant.

Durant still scored 28 points while adding a game high 10 rebounds and team high 6 assists.

The loss drops the Thunder's record to 1-1 after opening the season with games on back to back nights.

"This is a lesson learned for us," Durant said. "Every game is a new experience. We have to get better."

Despite being one the league's youngest teams, the effects of opening the season were evident as the Thunder only managed 32 second half points.

Russell Westbrook had a tough game shooting just 2-14 for 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 turnovers.

Oklahoma City will have a day to rest before their home opener against the Indiana Pacers. They will then play for the 4th time in the seasons first 5 days as they travel to Dallas to face the defending champion Mavericks.

This is great! The thunder are my favorite team. I'm doing 30 team association and being all teams. I'm thinking about sending Ibaka and Muhammed for K Love(i dont think he'll extend with T'Wolves).

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder love to get out and run.

When they're allowed to do it, it doesn't take long for games to get out of hand.

Such was the case in the teams home opener against the Indiana Pacers. The Thunder opened the game with an 11-2 run and Indiana could not keep up with the pace.

The Thunder built up an 18-point lead heading into halftime and the Pacers got no closer than 10 in the second half.

Kevin Durant led the way with 34 points and reserve James Harden scored 20 points, Russell Westbrook added 19 as the Thunder beat the cruised to an easy win in their first home game of the season.

"That's always our motto we live by is getting stops and running out," Durant said, "Today, that's what we did and we were able to get some easy layups and get everybody going."

Not only did the Pacers lose the game but they also lost second year swing-man Paul George for 6 to 8 weeks with a broken jaw.

The Thunder will close out a stretch of 4 games in 5 days tomorrow night as the travel to Dallas to face the defending champion Mavericks. Dallas is off to a 2-0 start including a 126-65 throttling of the Chicago Bulls on opening night. Dirk Notwitzki leads the Mavs with 27.5 points per game so far this season.

DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks continue to look and play like the reigning NBA champions.

Despite an off game from Dirk Nowitzki, who scored just 2 points, the Mavericks managed a 33 point 4th quarter to complete a comeback win over the Oklahoma City Thunder 82-76.

A pair of Jason's led the way for Dallas as Jason Kidd scored 26 points and Jason Terry added 24 points and 11 rebounds.

The Thunder, who lost to the Mavericks in the Western Conference finals last season were looking to send a message to the champs. However, having to play 4 times in the first 5 days of the season eventually took it's toll.

"We didn't have any energy left down the stretch," said Kevin Durant, who scored a season low 21 points. "We need energy. It changes the whole game. We need to play with more effort."

Russell Westbrook continued to struggle shooting the ball going 6-20 for 13 points, he did have 8 assists and 4 steals, but the Thunder will need him to find his shot if they hope to contend for a title.

Terry found his stroke in 4th quarter hitting 3 of his 4 three pointers to put Dallas ahead late and the Mavs closed the game strong to get the win.

"We're gaining a little momentum," said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle, "We've got to continue the right way and maintain the proper focus, and that's challenging."

The Thunder will finally get to rest their legs as they have a two day break before traveling to New York to face the Knicks. New York is 2-1 coming off a 109-105 win against the Pistons. Carmelo Anthony leads the Knicks with 24.7 ppg and A'mare Stoudemire is scoring 20.3 ppg and grabbing 8.7 rebounds.

NEW YORK -- What appeared to be a second road victory for Thunder turned into ten point loss as the Oklahoma City Thunder failed to close out another game.

The lead changed hands several times in the 2nd half, when the roller-coaster was over, the New York Knicks were off to a 3-1 start with a 107-97 win.

"We didn't come in with the right mindset," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "They're a physical team. They had their hands on us and really pushed us around a little bit too much tonight and we didn't take the challenge."

In a game featuring two of NBA's top scorers, Kevin Durant won the individual battle scoring 34 points, but Carmelo Anthony finished with 27 points to lead the Knicks. Anthony aslo had far more help, with the Knicks putting five players in double figures. Baron Davis came off the bench and added 21 points and 4 assists.

The Knicks needed someone to step as a second scorer when A'mare Stoudemire got into early foul trouble and was limited to just 19 minutes and 2 points.

Russell Westbrook scored 14 points for the Thunder before fouling out. The loss makes it two straight road games without a win and drops the teams record to 2-3.

The Thunder will get a chance to even the record with another road test against the Chicago Bulls. Chicago is 2-2 and is coming off a win over the Clippers 97-81. Reigning MVP Derrick Rose leads the Bulls with 19.7 ppg and 11.3 apg.
