With 11 games to go (10 now since I played again, just haven't updated), I'm hoping to at least run in the middle of the pack in the Northeast Conference. According to the ratings of each team, I'm only expected to win 4 more games.

But the last game I just played was amazing, definitely ran through the entire spectrum of emotions. I'll hopefully have an update out tonight.

      Long Island (7-11, 2-5) at Sacred Heart (13-5, 6-1)
William H. Pitt Center - Fairfield, CT
      January 24, 2008

Jaytornah Wisseh made his only two points of the game come at the most opportune time, hitting both free throws to give Long Island a 49-48 lead over Sacred Heart with 26.8 seconds left. That lead would stand despite two desperation heaves from Corey Hassan as the Blackbirds knock off one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference.

With leading scorer Drew Shubik sitting out with a broken hand, Sacred Heart (13-6, 6-2) shot under 30% from the floor. Despite the poor shooting, the Pioneers overcame an early deficit and lead by double digits in the second half.

Long Island (8-11, 3-5) was hot to start the game, with Ron Manigault scoring 11 of the Blackbirds' first 15 points. Manigault led Long Island scorers with a season high 14 points.

Sacred Heart responded to Long Island's hot hand and closed out the first half on a 11-0 run to take a 26-23 advantage.

The second half began like the first had ended, with Sacred Heart's full court trap forcing turnovers and easy transition points. A three pointer from Hassan gave the Pioneers a 37-25 lead to cap off the run.

Long Island fought their way, led by Ike Udanoh's assault on the inside. Udanoh scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half and added nine rebounds to help pull the Blackbirds within two possessions.

A costly reach-in foul by Chauncey Hardy sent Wisseh to the free throws with under a minute to play, and despite Long Island's earlier troubles at the charity line Wisseh would connect on both attempts and give his team the lead.

Long Island has alternated wins and losses in their last six contests, and have a day of rest before returning to action at home against Mount St. Mary's (9-10, 4-4).

Sacred Heart falls out of a tie for first place in the conference with their second loss in their last three games. The previously held a six game winning streak and will look to start another on Saturday against Quinnipiac (12-6, 6-1).

Wow great win! That game must have been one heck of a grind.

Yeah, it definitely was. Missing all those free throws was driving me crazy, I felt like I wasn't going to be able to come back because of it. Then the lead shrunk to 6, then 4, then finally got it to a one-possession game. I was more focused on not turning the ball over than making a basket. I got lucky with the foul, made no sense to reach-in with under a minute to play and in the bonus!

Do you use REAL FT%? I do and I always feel that my team shoots too well at free throws (typically in the upper 70s to near 80%). Then again, with a power conference team, my players probably have better FT ratings, so perhaps that explains it. There's no slider for free throws (and I don't think "FT Difficulty" will affect free throws with REAL FT% on), so there doesn't see to be anything I can do about it.

I have Real FT% on and FT Difficulty at 70. I also have 3 players with FT ratings over 80 (Johnson - 86, Kotorbai - 84, Mattison - 81). Wisseh is 77 and one of my redshirts is a 76, then it's all downhill from there.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Tyrell Coley (Ch2k8)

Was playing the game against Mount St. Mary's today and the game froze heading into halftime. I'm disappointed because it was probably one of the best offensive halves I've had in this game (was leading 40-38, Udanoh had 15 points).

I'm debating though, should I just sim this and go on to the next game or play it again? I feel like I wasted half an hour, so I'm not sure.

I don't even think it was the game that froze because the PS button on my controller didn't work. I think the whole PS3 froze. It's stuck on a black screen with nothing on it but "Player of the Half" in the bottom right corner. Have any of you ever encountered this problem?

Decided that I'm just going to sim this game and move onward.

There's no shame in simming in those circumstances, although the game was very much up in the air. Previously when I've had power outtages mid game I sim to make sure there is a similar result.

Of course, if you'd rather play it again, go for it.

Mount St. Mary's at Long Island

LIU-Brooklyn broke out to a huge lead early in the first half and avoided the completion of a late comeback to defeat Mount St. Mary's 69-60 in NEC play.

The Blackbirds (9-11, 4-5) are now tied with the Mountaineers (9-11, 4-5) for seventh place in the Northeast Conference, as both teams are just three games behind Sacred Heart (14-6, 7-2).

Tyrone Mattison led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 60% off the bench to led LIU-Brooklyn. Jaytornah Wisseh also scored in double digits with 11 points and four assists.

Jeremy Goode led Mount St. Mary's with 12 points, four rebounds, and six assists in the loss.

Long Island will take to the road and play Wagner next. The Blackbirds defeated the Seahawks 76-67 back on January 17th and will meet again exactly two weeks to that date.

I simmed this game due to it freezing the first time I played, hence why the update is so straightforward.

Side note, I have a Legacy that I'm simming through until I could get to the major conference...took me 20 SEASONS before getting offered by one. Took it immediately since I spent 12 years at Evansville (along with 5 at Maryland-Eastern Shore and 3 at Murray State) and in the 2027-28 season I'm coaching the New Mexico Lobos.

In 20 seasons, only managed to snag 2 4-star recruits and have yet to make it out the 1st round in 5 appearances (and 1 trip to the NIT). This game is tough but oh so rewarding.

                          Merry Christmas everyone.

January 31, 2008 - Staten Island, NY - Spiro Sports Center
                              LIU-Brooklyn (9-11, 4-5) at Wagner (10-9, 4-4)

If not for an abysmal first half, LIU-Brooklyn might have come away with their third consecutive victory. Unfortunately, seven turnovers and shooting 10% from the floor for the first twenty minutes left the Blackbirds in a 30-point deficit by intermission.

The hole proved to be insurmountable as Wagner would waltz away with a 77-51 victory in the Spiro Sports Center.

The Seahawks opened the game on an 11-0 run thanks to some hot hands beyond the arc. The shots wouldn't fall for Long Island, and Wagner abused the transition game to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

LIU-Brooklyn (9-12, 4-6) made some good adjustments at halftime, and played the second half with a much better shooting touch. The Blackbirds slowly chipped into the lead, and a basket-and-foul from Ike Udanoh closed a 12-0 run that cut Wagner's lead to to 11.

Wagner (11-9, 5-4) wouldn't allow Long Island to get any closer, as the Seahawks bench provided 30 points in relief and sealed the win.

Joey Mundweiler lead all scorers with 19 points, while Jaren Haley added 10 points and five steals off the bench.

LIU-Brooklyn had a decent game from their three most consistent players, but players not named Euegene Kotorbai, Kellen Allen, or Ike Udanoh added just 10 points to the scoreboard.

The Blackbirds will hope to rebound from the loss as they begin the month of February at home against Monmouth (8-11, 3-6).

February 2, 2008 - Wellness, Athletic, and Recreation Center - Brooklyn, NY
                                Monmouth (9-13, 3-7) at LIU Brooklyn (9-12, 4-6)

Eugene Kotorbai scored 20 points and Kellen Allen added 16 to help LIU Brooklyn overturn a five point deficit to a 72-67 victory over Monmouth in Northeastern Conference play.

Kotorbai and Allen each made eight shots from the field for Long Island (10-12, 5-6), which shot just 36% from the floor in the first half and went into intermission down 37-32.

"We did a good job executing our halftime adjustments." said Long Island coach Tyrell Coley. "It was a hard fought game, and a well deserved win."

Monmouth opened the game with a 7-0 run, which the Blackbirds responded with a 9-0 run of their own. LIU Brooklyn was out in front for the majority of the first half, until an 8-0 run put the Hawks back in front. Alex Nunner did his best to contribute, scoring all 11 of his points in the first half including making three 3-pointers.

                                R.J. Rutledge
scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the second half for Monmouth (9-14, 3-8) but he did as much good as he did bad, shooting 24 times - including 19 3-pointers - and only connecting on seven baskets.

Long Island's aggresive play in the second half almost was their undoing, as Monmouth was in the bonus with nearly eight minutes left to play.
Despite that, the Blackbirds fought back and a back shot by Ike Udanoh gave them a 63-58 lead with 4:56 left.

Monmouth could never make it less than a three point game, and the proverbial nail in the coffin came with two minutes left as Kotorbai missed a shot, stole the ensuing outlet pass and drove to the basket for a lay-up to put LIU Brooklyn up 70-63.
