Re: The Coaching Legacy of Tyrell Coley (Ch2k8)

    February 7, 2008
    DeGol Arena - Loretto, PA
    LIU-Brooklyn (10-12, 5-6) at St. Francis (PA) (7-14, 4-7)

Eugene Kotorbai and Ike Udanoh each scored 15 points for a LIU-Brooklyn squad that slowed down the pace dramatically in the second half and escaped DeGol Arena with a 55-53 victory.

The Blackbirds have won four of their last five games, helping to climb their way back up the Northeastern Conference standings. The win also halted a three game winning streak for the home Pioneers.

Both teams shot efficiently in the first half, and while LIU-Brooklyn shot 60% to St. Francis' 50% the Pioneers held a 39-36 lead heading into the locker room.

Marcus Ford scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, helping St. Francis to a double-digit lead. Long Island would make the necessary adjustments after a timeout and slowed the pace down, allowing them to end the half on a 13-3 run.

Despite the change of pace in the second half, St. Francis still continued to hold a lead for the majority of the game. It wasn't until a three from Ron Manigault with just over two minutes left cut the lead to one point.

Jaytornah Wisseh would steal the ensuing possession, and a quick pass to Udanoh gave the Blackbirds a 54-53 lead.

The Pioneers couldn't take the lead back, and were forced foul Kotorbai with 31.2 seconds left. Kotorbai would miss the back end of the 1-and-1 giving St. Francis a final chance to win the game, but the Blackbirds were smart to double Ford, leaving Cale Nelson to miss the final shot from the top of the arc as time expired.

Long Island ended the game of a 11-4 run over the last seven minutes, showing that at their pace, they can very much control the game and take advantage of the skill sets their players possess.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Tyrell Coley (Ch2k8)

This is back, the basketball bug has reared its head once more. While the NBA season helped with the itch, I don't have NBA 2k15 (holding out until I get a PS4) so CH2k8 was more than happy to fill the void.

I finished the season with Long Island so I'll will update the scores and a quick recap of those final games before catching up to where I am currently: Selection Sunday.

            Bubble Watch
            Rhode Island (24-9)
            Florida State (20-13, RPI 32)
            Iowa State (19-12, RPI 34)
            Pittsburgh (19-13, RPI 35)
            Illinois State (20-9, RPI 37)
            Southern Illinois (18-11, RPI 39)
            Charlotte (20-12, RPI 42)
            Virginia Tech (19-13, RPI 43)
            BYU (25-8, RPI 44)
            Wisconsin (20-13, RPI 54)

2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament

            East Regional
#1 Georgetown (28-4) vs Play-In Winner (Albany vs Idaho)
            #8 Indiana (20-11) vs #9 Georgia Tech (19-12)
            #5 Austin Peay (26-6) vs #12 Tennessee State (18-13)
            #4 Clemson (21-10) vs #13 Loyola (MD) (21-12)
            #6 Saint Louis (24-8) vs #11 Iowa State (19-12)
            #3 Texas A&M (23-7) vs #14 Sacramento State (15-14)
            #7 Xavier (22-10) vs #10 Florida State (20-13)
            #2 Washington State (26-6) vs #15 Bucknell (16-14)

They gave Georgetown the #1 overall seed over UNC, not sure why. I could understand Memphis slipping since they lost the CUSA Title Game to UAB, but I don't know. Aside from Washington State and Texas A&M, not sure if anyone in this bracket will be head and shoulders above the rest
            Prediction: #1 Georgetown over #3 Texas A&M

            West Regional
            #1 Tennessee (27-5) vs #16 New Mexico (14-19)
            #8 Bradley (24-9) vs #9 Marquette (19-12)
            #5 Gonzaga (21-10) vs #12 Akron (22-9)
            #4 Kentucky (22-10) vs #13 Florida International (19-11)
            #6 Missouri (22-11) vs #11 James Madison (23-9)
            #3 Oregon (23-10) vs #14 Quinnipiac (20-12)
            #7 Davidson (20-7) vs #10 Oklahoma (18-14)
            #2 Kansas (26-6) vs #15 Alcorn State (19-12)

While the records may not be jaw dropping the big names are all out West. Tennessee and their star power have the #1 seed, but they are joined by Kansas, Oregon, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Davidson, and Oklahoma. No one is safe in this region and it's safe to assume whoever makes it out of here will either be battle tested and win the championship or have no gas and get stomped in the semifinals.
Prediction: #2 Kansas over #4 Kentucky

            South Regional
            #1 North Carolina (29-5) vs #16 Loyola (IL) (14-15)
            #8 Saint Mary’s (21-9) vs #9 Illinois (22-12)
            #5 Siena (24-5) vs #12 Stephen F Austin (19-9)
            #4 Vanderbilt (24-9) vs #13 UC Irvine (17-13)
            #6 Texas (20-13) vs #11 BYU (25-8)
            #3 Louisville (24-10) vs #14 Pepperdine (14-17)
            #7 Kansas State (18-14) vs #10 Charlotte (20-12)
            #2 Stanford (25-7) vs #15 Mercer (17-14)

Gets a little bit better in the South. BYU, Charlotte could be double-digit teams with a chance for the Sweet 16. It's UNC's region to lose however.
Prediction: #1 UNC over #6 Texas

            Midwest Regional
            #1 Memphis (31-3) vs #16 Liberty (15-16)
            #8 UNLV (22-9) vs #9 UCLA (19-12)
            #5 Duke (19-11) vs #12 Saint Joseph’s (20-15)
            #4 UAB (26-8) vs #13 IUPUI (18-12)
            #6 Alabama (22-12) vs #11 Columbia (20-8)
            #3 UConn (23-9) vs #14 Florida A&M (19-12)
            #7 Seton Hall (22-10) vs #10 Rhode Island (24-9)
            #2 West Virginia (25-6) vs #15 Chattanooga (15-16)

Memphis slipped up in the conference title and only time will tell if there are cracks in their armor from playing weak conference competition. UAB, the team that took the CUSA Title away from them, are in this region too and could meet up for Round 4 in the Sweet 16.
Prediction: #9 UCLA over #2 West Virginia

National Title Prediction: #2 Kansas over #1 North Carolina

Note: The predictions are only based on who has the highest overall ratings.
