Despite Celtics' Block Party, Jazz make comeback win

Salt Lake City -- Despite a Boston Block party and a ridiculous scoring percentage in the first half the Celtics fell to the Jazz in OT forced by a contested Alec Burks jumpshot over Ray Allen making it his second overtime forcing shot of the season.

From the get go the Celtics dominated showing why they have some of the best shooters in the League when Ray Allen and Paul Pierce would score most of the 1st quarter points for the C's and helped by Rajon Rondo's terrific passing ability and court vision and Kevin Garnett's lockdown defense in the Jazz paint making Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap struggle to score points early but Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter would enter the game and they would provide sparks on both ends of the court, Kanter had a brilliant rebounding night finishing with 10 rebounds of the bench for the Jazz, Despite Kanter and Favours performances of the bench Millsap was struggling against Garnett who was sending back everything that he put towards the basket at the Half the Celtics led 58-46 with 55% FG success.

Straight out of the half the block party continued for the Celtics as on two consecutive Jazz possessions the Celtics would block both of the Jazz's shots but with efficient inside work and open looks from the Jazz they would bring the game back with Harrison Barnes and D.J Augustin in the paint and two J.J Redick 3 point possessions the Jazz were back in the game come the start for the 4th quarter.

Despite KG's defensive performance the Celtics lost

The Celtics' seemed to have lost all momentum in the 4th Q when they went through a 3:00 dry spell and it was like there was a lid on top of the rim and they were getting left for dust on the fast break only Rondo seemed to be the only one back but he was still dunked on by rookie Harrison Barnes and then Al Jefferson of two straight fast breaks which trimmed the lead to two but Paul Pierce was fouled at the other end and would only make 1 of 2 free throws and the lead was just three with 35 seconds left. On the Celtics' next possession Rondo would be fouled by D.J Augustin and he would be fouled out on 15 points for the night and Rondo would miss one and make on where the lead was two and with the clock running down step up Alec Burks (again) who would receive the ball from Earl Watson and with Ray Allen's hand in his face the ball would bounce of the side of the rim rise hit the glass and go in! to force over time and would almost complete the Jazz comeback.

With the momentum with the Jazz the Celtics were struggling and when they grabbed and offensive rebound through Omer Asik and he would throw a bad pass meant for Rajon Rondo and would fly way out of bounds and the Jazz rode this momentum all through OT with a Harrison Barnes contact and one to extend the lead to five when it was at 102-100 an the Celtics' never seemed to be able to recover as Rondo fouled out and the Jazz take the W.

Kyrie's Cavs down Jazz with help from Beal

Cleveland -- It was a night where two top 5 draft picks showed why they were drafted there as the Cavs shook off Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson, D.J Augustin and the Utah Jazz with up tempo play and efficient scoring after half time.

Cavs number 3 draft pick this year Bradley Beal was hot right from the get go and never got cold draining Jumper after Jumper and one layup and dunk after the other as he had what would be a big night in what has been his short career in the NBA so far and we surely not see the last of performances like from Beal as he matures in the league. He and reigning Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving combined for 55 of the Cavs points being a menace to the Jazz defence all night but by no means did this mean the Jazz played bad they were lucky not to come out of Ohio with a W.

The game was back and forth all night with Al Jefferson heating up for the Jazz early and draining a few jumpers and hook shots in the post Paul Millsap and D.J Augustin played their fair part in the game tonight too. Rookie Harrison Barnes had a ferocious dunk on Anderson Varejao in the middle of the second quarter but by the time the first half had ended Beal was showing his shooting stroke and ended the half with 19 poitns with the teams going in 48-46 to the Jazz at the Half.

Harrison Barnes showing he can hang with a ferocious dunk on Varejao

Cleveland's offensive rebounding sparked them towards a run in the third with the combined efforts of Varejao, Thompson and Camby (who had double digit boards of the bench) and their suffocating defense leading to the Jazz having to empty trips up the floor and the Cavs would take the biggest lead of the game which would be 15 but some great inside play for the Jazz again from the ususal suspects in Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson the Jazz would bring the lead to 7 before Favors would hit a 3rd Quarter buzzer beater to give the Jazz some momentum going into the 4th.

But Omri Casspi in the 4th would show why he is a prime candidate for Most Improved player as he would hit a barrage of threes and put the Cavs in prime position to take the game but again the Jazz would fight back as Harrison Barnes and D.J Augustin would have big 4th quarters but it wasn't enough for the Jazz as Irving and Co. would close the game out with time ticking down and they would drain their free throws to sink the Jazz and Beal would show that he has a great future in this league.

Next up for the Jazz they head back home to Salt Lake City and welcome LaMarcus Aldridge and the Blazers for North-western division matchup and it shouldn't hesitate to disappoint.

              Jefferson staying in Utah

Salt Lake City -- Well Al Jefferson's future is now cleared up as he will not be entering free agency this off-season as he has signed a 4 year $50.43 million contract extension with the Jazz meaning that he has pledged his future to the Jazz and that he wants in on the Jazz's road to success under new GM Liam Mackenzie and his plan to bring Utah a long overdue championship. Jefferson has been productive for the Jazz and his scoring numbers are lower than last season but that does not indicate how crucial he has been to the Jazz this season and he is even in line for an All-Star appearance this season he;s been averaging 15.8 PPG this season. We caught up with big Al to see what he had to say:

"I happy we have sorted this all out and I feel my heart is here with the Jazz and the fans and I feel with some key pieces added to this team we can be a championship team in a couple of seasons and I want to be a part of and contribute to this success"

Well that's that then Jazz fans get used to big Al because he will be sticking around for long and hopefully can bring the team some long overdue success.

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo

Jazz bench play a big part as Portland defeated in Utah

Salt Lake City -- Turnovers and Great bench scoring for the Jazz helped them overcome LaMarcus Aldridge and his Blazers in Utah. Derrick Favors also showed why he is in the running for Sixth man of the year with a terrific performance on both ends of the court tonight.

Portland were the ones that came out of the gate with a vengeance as their bigs LaMarcus Aldridge and Rookie Tyler Zeller were causing havoc in the paint for the Jazz early Aldridge offensively and Zeller defensively and on the offensive glass. Wes Matthews a former Jazz player got off to a hot start and caused his former team probelms early on with a 4/6 start from the field for the 3pt specialist, But Paul Millsap showed that he was up for battle as he had 2 putback dunks in the first and was perfect from the field so far. His matchup LaMarcus Aldridge had a stellar 1st half going into the break level at 49 with Aldridge with 12 points.

Despite Aldridge's efforts he couldn't prevent the loss

Al Jefferson was showing why he earned his recent contract extension by playing one of his best games of the season and showing he wasnts an all-star call up as well finishing with 15 boards on the night. In the 3rd it was stillback and forth up until the 2 minute mark where the Jazz would get consecutive stops and consecutive baskets on the offensive end by running effective plays and conveting on lacklustre D by the Blazers. Rookie Harrison Barnes did his part to help close out the game in the 4th as he has 13 2nd half points as the Jazz began to pull away in the forth and rack up the W.

Next up for the Jazz will be Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs in Dallas.

Mavs survive late Jazz run with help from Dirk

DALLAS -- The Mavs and the Jazz showed in this game that you don't have to drive into the paint and score to win games as they put on a jump shooting clinic infront of a packed American Airlines Centre crowd.

The Jazz had it all to do from the start as they started the game 0/7 from the field and were down by 17 points at the most in the first quarter and had it all to do in the rest of the game. Dallas' offensive rebounding was killing Utah's momentum early as Dirk, Mahinmi and even Marion were crashing the offensive boards with intent to kill of Utah early in the game. With a tough deficit in 1st Q Utah looked like a beaten team already. But Utah brought it in the second Q and by half time they had trimmed Dallas' lead to just seven at the half with it 43-50.

It wasn't until the 3rd quarter until the Jazz were able to tie the game up with an Alec Burks 3 with 1:27 left in the third Q. Utah had controlled the 2nd and 3rd quarters and looked like a completely different team to the one that had started the game so when Rick Carlisle had a chance to talk to his team before the last quarter started he knew he had to change something in his game plan to hold off the Jazz. The two teams fought right through the last quarter of the game going back and forth but the Mavs were able to survive the Jazz scare and move on with a W. For the Jazz they seem to be stuck in a loop and cant put a streak together either losing one and winning one of winning three then losing 4. George Karl had this to say:

"Its getting near the middle of the season and we need to spark a run and put something together if we are going to make the playoff's. We keep looking good one game and then we look like a different team after. We will have to put alot of commitment into winning and see if we can chalk something together before we hit the all-star break. Everyone in the locker room need to stay together and believe that we can put together a run. We have some great young talent mixed with some veterans so I think if we keep our eyes focused on the prize of the playoffs we can put together a run"

Luis Scola missed Buzzer Beater and One free throw separate the Jazz and Rockets

HOUSTON -- The Utah Jazz left the Toyota Centre tonight with a W but only just as they were saved when Luis Scola Missed the last shot and it would come down to one missed free throw. That is how tight this game was tonight and for everyone who seen it will admit that it was one of the most entertaining of the season so far.

It was back and forth straight from the off with both teams exchanging leads and buckets but Houston had the upper hand in a tightly contested first quarter and this game did not reflect the mediocre season that the Rockets have had so far. Coming into the second quarter with it tightly contested the Rockets were controlling the offensive glass early with Donatas Motiejunas and Patrick Patterson grabbing offensive rebounds on consecutive misses for the Rockets and they would convert on the second chance points but the Jazz would take control in the second quarter for a while with their rookie Jordan Taylor having a very productive night of the bench hitting on all of his attempts and having 8 points ans 7 assists of the bench in 10 minutes of play showing that he could be a great steal for the Jazz if he keeps up his play. The teams went into the Half tied at 51 and Kevin Martin had the game high 19 points by half time even though he has low scoring numbers than usual this season.

This steal was one of Kevin Martin's many highlights from the game

By the 3rd quarter there were already 15 lead changes and the teams continued to go back and forth. The 3rd quarter was much like a 3 point contest with Alec Burks and Kyle Lowry exchanging 3 point buckets in the 3rd but the Jazz would leave the third quarter with a 5 point lead but in the forth they would extend the lead to as much as 9 only for Kevin Martin and Luis Scola to spark a Houston run and outscore the Jazz by 4 points for the 4th Quarter but The Jazz fans had their hearts in their mouths as Luis Scola took the last shot for it to bounce of the front of the rim teeter on the side and fall of and the Jazz and their fans would breathe a sigh of relief and walk out of Texas with a W.

Next up for the Jazz they head to Minnesota to conclude their road trip and a Martin Luther King day showdown with Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio and the Timberwolves.

Jazz shrug off Wolves on MLK Day

MINNESOTA -- It was the meeting of old faces in Minnesota as Ty Corbin's Wolves faced off against former Minnesota Center Al Jefferson and the Jazz on a Martin Luther King day match-up.

Kevin Love was showing early why he is one of the best rebounders in the league asserting his dominance early on the offensive glass and kicking it out to the perimeter for the likes of Luke Ridnour and Michael Beasley to convert on three point opportunity's. Love would finish with an astounding 19 rebounds for the game. Ricky Rubio was struggling early on with D.J Augusitn stealing the ball from him on two straight possessions and turnovers would be a problem all night for Rubion and he never looked to recover from that early set back. Nikola Pekovic was causing problems inside for the Jazz and when he was double teamed by the Jazz he would just kick it out to the perimiter again for an open man. The teams went in 47-51 at the half and Love Alreday had 12 rebounds.

Kevin Love's 19 rebounds wasn't enough to save his Timberwolves from defeat

The Timberwolves got out to the biggest lead of the game in the third which would be 11 but the Jazz fought back and you could see Ty Corbin taaking out his frustration with the team at one of the timeouts they had they werent taking care of the ball and they were not converting on easy hoops. With the Game tied at 70 J.J Barea hit a 3rd quarter buzzer-beater to put the Wolves up 2 going into the 4th. The 4th quarter was a nail biter for both teams it was scoreless for 4 minuets and when D.J Augustin left the game with an Injury you thought that the Wolves could take control just after that and when Harrison Barnes missed a breakaway dunk but it was the Jazz who scored first in the 4th but the Wolves would reply and the teams would go back and forth but with some stellar defence by the Jazz in the last part of the game they were bale to close out the Timberwolves and Al Jefferson had the game high in points in his return to Minneapolis.

Next up for the Jazz they welcome the Raptors to Utah and they lost last time around in overtime in Canada but the Raptors will be without Andrea Bargnani as they traded him away to the Warriors for Andrew Bogut so it will be Demar DeRozan and Bogut who will lead the Raptors against the Jazz.
