Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
Clippers Squeeze Past Jazz
LOS ANGELES -- It was back to business after the All-Star weekend in Houston and the Jazz and Clippers faced of looking to solidify their places in the Western Conference play-off race and it would be LA that would squeeze by and ride Chris Paul's stellar performance.
Paul was on fire right from the start in the game scoring 6 of the Clippers 10 points in the opening 3 minuets of the game but no-one could seem to get the upper hand in what was a tightly contested affair thus far even when toward the end of the 1st the Jazz would tie the game up and get a stop and Alec Burks would score a 3 in transition to make it 14-19 to the Jazz but the Clippers would fight back from this and while they were 1 point up J.J Redick would hit a buzzer beater with no time on the clock and giving the Jazz momentum going into the 2nd. Utah rode the momentum from the buzzer beater going into the 2nd with a 7-2 run at the start but the game continued to be stuck in the balance as the Clippers would fight back with them showing that they have some of the best shooters in the league with Billups, Butler ad even Young of the bench making consistent Jump shots and the teams would go in 49-51 at the half to the Clippers.
J.J Redick after his buzzer beater.
The Intense play continue after the Half with the first play being one of the plays of the game from the Jazz, D.J Augustin's floater would be blocked by Blake Griffin and at the other end on the Clippers possession Griffin would go up for the slam and Paul Millsap would reject it with force. With 57 seconds left. The 3rd was again in the balance and picked up towards the end when with 57 seconds left rookie Josh Shurna would make a bad inbounds pass and it would slip through Mo Williams' fingers right to Al Jefferson who would make the most of it and slam it down. Their were already 17 lead changes and 13 ties by the 4th and one team had to win it and despite another great performance from Favors and Kanter off the bench especially being key in the 4th with Favors shooting 80% from the field, it would be the clippers who would make a late run to win the game with Paul coming up big down the stretch.
Next up for the Jazz it will be a young Sacramento Kings team who are struggling this season despite stellar play from their 2 key players Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins.

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
Jazz Shrug of Sacramento
SACRAMENTO -- The Jazz got back to their winning ways as expected by beating an unreliably defensive Sacramento Kings team but they didn't make it easy for themselves as they were creating turnovers left right and centre and probably could of won by double digits.
The Kings Guard Marcus Thornton got the game going to a fast start hitting a three with virtually 10 or so seconds played in the game and it showed that the Kings were not ready to sit back and let the Jazz walk all over them but it seemed that it was going to be that way when they were down by 5 early in the first quarter and it was mostly down to them putting no effort in defending their own paint and just letting the Jazz score easy points thr Jazz had a 10-2 advantage in points in the paint with only 4 minuets gone in the game, despite this lazy D the Kings were scoring well converting lay ups and knocking down jump shots. With the Jazz up by 6 for the 1st quarter they came out in the quarter scoring well especially rookie PG Jordan Taylor (who had 10 points of the bench and led the team in scoring at the half) who knocked down 4/4 of his field goals of the bench and one of them being a 3 pointer. The Kings were also struggling on the boards and the Jazz had opened up a +15 advantage on the boards thanks to Al Jefferson who had a monstrous 18 rebound performance. The teams went in 51-44 at the half with Marcus Thornton on 11 points for the Kings and the game high so far.
Tyreke Evans had a great game with 22 points
The Kings were trying to mount a comeback with a 7-2 run to start the quarter but again their defence let them down and allowed the Jazz back into the game and they would eventually take the highest lead of the game at 11 but Tyreke Evans starting the quarter 5/5 and 11 points took them back into single digits and it did help when the Jazz were inconsistent at the charity stripe but it wasn't that much of a problem when Al Jefferson already ahd a double-double through 3 quarters of play. Early in the 4th Derrick Favors would get a monster block on Darren Collison and he would knock him hard to the floor and Collison would not return it was later reported that he strained his lower back and will be out which is a major blow for the Kings. The 4ht was where the Jazz and their turnovers really caught up with them as they had a nine point deficit with one minute left in the Q but two straight TO's one resulting to a score at the other end and one a foul and a free throw made the lead was 6 until Marcus Thornton hit a 3 with 25 seconds to go and the lead was three but they were lucky that the Kings had to foul and that D.J Augustin knocked down his free throws and they were able to close out the game in the end. Jazz coach George Karl had this to say:
"I am happy with the win as it keeps us firmly in the play-off hunt but our turnovers were a problem again which has seemed to be the story all season-long. It's something that we will be definitely looking at more and more to focus on taking care of the ball and it will be more important down the later half of the season as we need to win games to stay in the play-off hunt, I know something we will have to cut down time from some shoot-arounds to put extra emphasis on it...(laughs)"
Well that win now puts the Jazz second in their division overtaking Portland who they play next and will be looking to beat to stay firmly in that position as they play Portland at the Rose Garden and then 4 days later in Utah once the play the Kings again two days before that in Utah as well.

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
Too Little to Late as Jazz fall to Blazers
PORTLAND -- Utah's comeback effort fell short as their lazy defence let them down in Portland and they fell to a Trail Blazers team led by Nicolas Batum's 20 point and rookie Tyler Zeller's excellent offense in the paint.
Portland started the game well and Utah looked like a different team defensively than the one we've seen for most of this season but Utah could prevent most of Portland's offense as everything seemed to be falling for them as they were shooting over 55% from the field early on mostly helped by Tyler Zeller's work down low and using his length to give Al Jefferson problems. Utah tried to reply to this fiery offensive performance by the Blazers with a 7-3 run to start the quarter but it was a shot lived run as Portland kept shooting consistently and were just making every contested shot. It was a double digit lead going into the half at 44-58
Harrison Barnes showing some mad hang time on this jam he had a great night
Utah didn't help themselves in the third by giving away too many offensive rebounds and not fighting hard enough on the offensive glass and Zeller was just killing them with some impressive post play. Every Time the Jazz would make a deficit Portland would just tie it up again and answer back. The Jazz finally looked dangerous and were able to start the 4th with a 9-2 run and they were looking like they would mount a late comeback and they were fairly pulling away in the 4th out scoring the Blazers 21-10 with 4 minuets left. It looked like the Jazz were poised to complete the comeback with 2:40 on the clock D.J Augustin stole the ball of Dee Bost and would dish to Alec Burks who would be fouled and make his free throws cutting the lead to 2 but Portland would hold out and were able to fight off a resilient Jazz team and close out the game and now in 4 days the teams will meet again in Utah and im sure George Karl and the Jazz will be looking for revenge.

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
Jazz get their revenge in OT
SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah got their revenge from the result of 4 days ago but they were certainly mad to work for it by a resilient Trail Blazer squad who gave them problems all throughout the game.
At the start if the game it looked like it might of been the same outcome of 4 days ago as the Blazers came out of the blocks on fire starting of with an 8-0 run and the Jazz were slow to score but picked up the pace and were rebounding much better than the last meeting and showed that they were ready to get their revenge but near the end of the first the Jazz kept trying to tie the game up but Portland would keep holding them off. In the second quarter the Jazz were much better knocking down shots with much more consistently and they were able to tie the game up with a Derrick Favors hook shot 4 minuets into the Q but again Portland would fight back and not let the Jazz have any breathing space as the teams would go into the half 42-48 with LaMarcus Aldridge playing big for Portland already having 13 points and 2 blocked shots.
Derrick Favors was big off the bench again with 18 points
Out of the half the Jazz continued their good play and they eventually tied it up with a D.J Augustin with 5:27 left in the 3rd quarter and they would eventually take the lead and take advantage of the Trailblazers dry spell as they were outscoring them 18-7 with 3:13 left in the quarter and Derrick Favors played a big part in the last two quarters of the bench. Portland would bring it back and make it a close game with the game winding down. Utah could have probably closed the game out in regulation if they could grab loose balls but they were just letting Portland recover from their mistakes. LaMarcus Aldridge stellar play was helped with all the mismatches he was getting in the post and the Jazz weren't picking him up well. With the blazers up by three D.J Augustin would hit a three pointer with .4 seconds left on the clock to send the game to OT. Augustin rode his momentum form that three hitting two mid range jumpers at the start of overtime but his match-up Jonny Flynn was hot as well and he came up big to try and keep the Blazers in the game. With 13 seconds left Harrison Barnes would hit a three with the Jazz down 2 and the Blazers could not answer back with the last possession of the game and the Jazz walk away with the W. D.J Augustin had this to say after the game:
"It was a good win for us as we beat our divisional rival and it got us one more step closer into the play-offs and we won the season series 3-1 so thats a plus when playing them next season as well. I was happy to hit the buzzer beater to force overtime and im glad we could close it out and ride the momentum and it definitely ignited the fans to help spur us on for the W."

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
LeBron and Wade carry Heat past Jazz
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Miami Heat continued their quest to reach the 70 win mark by defeating the Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena with only LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in double digit scoring for the Heat.
LeBron James got of to a quick start scoring the Heat's first 6 points on the way to a big scoring night for him. Jazz rookie Harrison Barnes will probably remember his steal on LeBron James at 8:22 in the quarter for the rest of his career and on top of that he broke away from LeBron and slamed it down to put the Jazz in front and that would be the only time the Jazz would be in front as the Miami Heat controled the game for the most part and showed why they are aiming to match the Bulls milestone of a 70+ game winning season. Utah were getting killed by the Heat on the fast break and to be fair most teams have this season especially with the speed of LeBron and D-Wade. Utah had an abysmal 2nd quarter and were getting trampled on offensively and couldn't do anything on their offensive end struggling to score against the Heat defence. One positive from the quarter was Alec Burks' buzzer beater and it gave them some sort of momentum after the half where the teams went in 43-61 and LeBron James already had 23 points.
Barnes caught LeBron by surprise and will remember this for the rest of his career
The 3rd was abysmal for both teams but the Jazz should have done better and could have got back into the game they did start the quarter off well but it seemed to die down they couldn't capitalise on the good defence they were playing on Miami to actually reduce the defect significantly. Utah did eventually get the deficit down to single digits in the 4th as it started off intensely with Derrick Favors getting a block on Wade and the Heat were sloppy with the ball but it was short lived as Wade and LeBron kept scoring it had worn the Jazz's offense down and they could mount any real comeback. One things for sure this Heat team are looking too strong not to be champion's come the post season. George Karl had a few words for us after the game:
"It is simple it was one of our worst performances of the season and we need to forget about this game and move on. When you play a team like Miami you need to be better offensively and be capable defensively and we were in the third and we should have scored more while they were missing but I don't know what happened but the guys will learn from this and we will hopefully comeback strong and get closer to the play-off's as the season winds down"

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
An Old Friend comes back to haunt Jazz as their defeated by the Warriors
Oakland -- The Jazz choosing not to re-sign C.J Miles the past off-season came back to haunt them somewhat as he dropped 26 points on them on the way to the Warriors defeating the Jazz in Oakland.
Utah were looking to play much better offensively than they did against Miami and Paul Millsap was playing great to start the game with 8 of the Jazz's first 10 points and it spurred the Warriors to come back a the Jazz and make it very good offensive game of basket ball in the first quarter, the tables were turned on the Warriors early on as the Jazz were knocking down their 3 point shots and the Warriors were struggling to defend them on the perimeter but that sooned changed going into the second with Golden State trouncing the Jazz offensively and they couldn't cope with them especially Stephen Curry who was shooting very efficiently and got the Warriors back in it 5:55 into the quarter. The Jazz should have been defending Golden State better on the perimeter as they scored 9 points of 3 straight 3 pointers and the Jazz neede to defend them better going in 47-55 at the half.
The Jazz played well out of the Half going on a good offensive run but they were switched off on the defensive end letting the Warriors back into the game and when Utah would hit 3s the Warriors would almost hit back every time whether it was Curry, Miles, Wright or Bargnani they were frustrating the Jazz and especially Jazz coach George Karl who was screaming at his team on the sidelines. In the 4th the Jazz tried to mount a legitimate comeback but their efforts would fall short due to their less than stellar D which let them down the past two quarters and maybe now they will learn from not respecting the Warriors shooters and 3 point game.

Re: Utah Jazz - Dealing with the Hoodoo
No April Fools for Jazz as they handle Bucks on the Road
Milwaukee -- Milwaukee added another loss to their mediocre season as they fell at home to the Utah Jazz on April Fools day throwing away a 14 point lead in the process.
It didn't always look like Milwaukee would lose in fact it looked more like they would coast to victory right from the start firing straight from the off and going on an early 20-9 run and they were doing everything right to stop the Jazz from scoring and they got the biggest lead of the game in the 1st which was 14. D.J Augustin scored a 2 in transition to beat the buzzer going into the 2nd quarter and the Jazz were able to ride the momentum from that having a fabulous 2nd quarter and seemed to do what the Bucks did in the first but better getting two straight blocks on the Bucks and taking the lead with 3:50 left in the quarter. The Jazz went in at the break up by 3 56-53 with D.J Augustin and Harrison Barnes playing well. Augustin would have a career night in blocks with 5 quite impressive for a 6'0 point guard.
Derrick Favors finishes off the play of the game
Utah went about in solidifying their lead by double teaming Monta Ellis and trying to slow down his production through the last 2 quarters and it worked to some extent and it helped the Jazz as they went through a dry spell but were able to recover mid quarter and still limit the Buck's to a 21 point quarter playing good defence. The Jazz almost threw away their lead as well as the Bucks started the 4th with a 7-0 run bringing themselves within three point and getting the Jazz in foul trouble early they already had three fouls four mins into the quarter. The play of the game came from the Jazz and it was lovely as Jordan Taylor threw a pass up court to Alec Burks who would pass it behind his back to a streaking Derrick Favors who would throw it down with force, But Milwaukee re took the lead when Monta Ellis hit a 3 with 3:59 to go and the Jazz needed to re group and get themselves back together and they did as the Bucks couldn't stop the Jazz offence with Rookie Jared Sullinger fouling out the Jazz were able to close the game out comfortably with consistent offence towards the end of the game and they are getting that much closer to a play-off berth.
Next up for the Jazz their second meeting with the Nets in Newark and they will be looking to sweep them in the season series but former Jazz point guard Deron Williams should have something in his arsenal to prevent them doing so.
