Central Arkansas (3-1) @ Charleston Southern (2-3)@
CSU Fieldhouse
Charleston, SC
December 1, 2007
Charleston, SC - What looked to be an even match-up was anything but. Central Arkansas raced out and found themselves up comfortably, 36-25 at half. From there, the starters were able to grab plenty of rest in the second half.
Even with reduced minutes, Mark Ruthledge was able to produce a game-high 18 points, adding three rebounds and an assist. The biggest shock came out of the production off the bench. Jarvis Garner came in and dropped 14 points, three rebounds, and added an assist.
The bench was able to hold off any runs and even extended the lead, eventually leading to a 69-52 win for Central Arkansas.

Thanks! It was a big home opening win. We needed that to keep the fans interested. I love protecting the home court too, so it was important for that as well!
The rest of the non-conference schedule looks alright...Comment

Brown (3-5) @ Central Arkansas (3-2)@
Farris Center
Conway, AR
December 5, 2007
Conway, AR - This clearly was not Mark Ruthledge's best game by any stretch of the imagination. He managed a team-high with 16 points, but made only five of his 27 shots. He didn't receive much help on the offensive end, but in the rebounding department, Robert Crawford and Anthony Borden both had career days with 14 and 12 rebounds respectively as each dropped nine points.
To that extent, Central Arkansas seemed to do alright, but it was Brown's Matt Sullivan who continued to penetrate the lane that was unable to be stopped. Sullivan ended up with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Six of those points came from the charity stripe due to Central Arkansas' inability to stop him without fouling.
This was close throughout, as Central Arkansas led 34-33 at the half. The game was never more than six points from a tie score and eventually finished with a 64-64 tie and the end of regulation. Brown had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but could not connect on the 15-foot jumper.
In overtime, Sullivan took over and sealed the 72-70 win for Brown.
"This was a game we should have taken. We didn't execute our gameplan...but you have to give credit to Brown. Sullivan was unstoppable on this particular night" said Coach Pfeifer after the game as his team drops their first at home this season.

Tulsa, OK - This was always going to be a tough game for Central Arkansas. Traveling to a struggling Tulsa team that was desperate for a win. With that said, Tulsa came out firing. It was a contest throughout, with Tulsa opening up numerous double digit leads, but somehow the Bears kept clawing their way back into the game, only down 28-23 at the half.
The second half went identical to the first half, and Mark Ruthledge found himself hurt in the opening minutes of the second half. The game ended 56-50 in favor of Tulsa.
Ruthledge sprained his ankle but came back in to finish the game. Unfortunately, the sprained ankle effected his game more than the medical staff thought it would. He ended up shooting 3-20 and finished with his lowest point total for the season with nine and was shut out from deep.
On the flip side, Anthony Borden had another solid performance as he put in 11 points and grabbed seven boards.
For Tulsa, it was not the volume of scoring, but the effective shooting that provided the sparks. A well balanced offense was led by Tim Peete with 14 points.
Solid contributors for Tulsa included D.J. Magley who dropped 12 points and four rebounds, and Steven Idlet who had nine points, six assists, and two steals.

Moscow, ID - Central Arkansas entered the Cowan Spectrum on a two game slide and exited with an end to that. It was never close. The Bears built a 27-13 lead at the half and added to it in the second to win 66-42 in their largest win of the season. It was also the lowest single half point total against them of the season, allowing only 13 points in the first half.
"We told our guys to drive, drive, drive and that they did. We even encouraged Ruthledge to take fewer threes because we knew they couldn't compete with our speed" stated Coach Pfeifer after the game.
Mark Ruthledge, fully healthy, was back to true form finishing with 21 points, four rebounds, and two assists. John Harks had a solid eight points and eight rebounds and Terry Tidwell recorded 12 points and five assists to spark the bench.
6'10" center Kyle Barone had a solid game for Idaho with 13 points and nine rebounds, but received no help.

Conway, AR - Central Arkansas returned home after a quick two-game road trip and struggled early, but maintained a 28-27 advantage going into the half. They seemed like a different team, one that was motivated by the home crowd in the second half. The strong second half led to an easy 69-53 win over UMKC.
The story of the game was the battle at SF between Central Arkansas' Mark Ruthledge and UMKC's Kirk Korver. Ruthledge had a game-high and season-high 24 points and a matching season-high 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Korver finished with 22 points and two rebounds.
"Ruthledge loves a challenge, so it was no shock to see this stat line from him" stated Coach Pfeifer regarding his star's sudden glass dominance.
John Harks continued to play well with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Bears continued to struggle against size as UMKC's 6'11" center finished with nine points and 14 rebounds.

HAHA! yes i know. I kept their original schedule for the most part. Next year I figure I'll plan on keeping things a little closer to find near rivalries. I'm a small school with small school money, so it will make sense to keep things close next year!
I'm finally all caught up, and will be running more tonight!Comment

I'll be playing the games next season. Coach Pfeifer needs a season to get his feet wet!
I can't get on the 2K servers to find any good sliders...I'm relatively weak at this game from my last stint and I'm used to NCAA.
If anybody has any slider recommendations, PLEASE let me know.
Also, I'm not afraid of losing a bunch at the beginning!Comment

Greensboro, NC - Central Arkansas have a true star in their junior SF Mark Ruthledge. He may not bring the most on the defensive end of the floor, but he sure can shoot. He saved his best for the final non-conference game against UNC Greensboro. His 28 points helped pace Central Arkansas past UNC Greensboro by the final of 80-55.
This was the most dominant offensive display yet this season. They shot 32-59 as a team, which is by far a season best. This bodes well as they prepare for the Southland Conference.
Anthony Borden chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists. John Harks has continued his solid play with six points and nine assists off the bench.
Once again, the big men of the opposition hurt the Bears. UNC Greensboro's Brian Cole finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Aaron Brackett finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Texas at Arlington (2-8, 2-0) @ Central Arkansas (6-4, 0-1)@

Conway, AR
January 10, 2008
Conway, AR - The Southland Conference opener was nothing but disappointment for Central Arkansas. They took nearly twice as many shots as Texas-Arlington, but couldn't capitalize on their offensive rebounds and second chances. At the buzzer, it was Texas-Arlington, a team who dropped their first eight games of the season, that find themselves atop the conference with two straight wins.
The Bears' Mark Ruthledge didn't look like himself all game as he forced shot after shot en route to a 16 percent shooting percentage. The team overall didn't do much better as the unit shot 31 percent collectively.
On the other side of the floor it was Darius Richardson with 18 points and six rebounds and Lamarcus Reed III with 16 points and seven rebounds that led the way for Texas-Arlington.

Up next is a home game against Texas State (4-7, 1-0). The Bears need this win before heading to the road for two straight. Could the wheels be falling off at the wrong time?
