Central High School vs Horrace Mantis High School
    February 13th, 2014

    _______________________________________

The Eagles have increased their win streak up to 4 now in a win against Horrace Mantis High School! All throughout the game the Eagles made only few mistakes on offense which led to the win. Sixth man Michael Kane scored a season high of 19 points to lead the past to the win.
The game was very fast paced and each team showed their ability to shoot the ball so it was a priority for the Eagles to keep their matchups in check to keep the game in hand.

Central High School plays Stonewall High next week in another home game.

Re: "A Look in My Eyes" - Journey Of 5'4" Guard Michael Kane

My after game thoughts against Horrace Mantis High School...

So after our game against Salem High School I had to listen to my dad rant about how I'm not believing in my skillset and that I'm giving up too many opportunities on offense. He basically told me about how I need to start getting more jump shots up instead of trying to force my way inside because I'm too "small". Well I kept that in mind this game and I took all the shots I saw right from the get go and in a result I scored a personal and team season high. It wasn't too hard because the Pioneer's point guard stood at around 5'1" and he wasn't very good on defense so I felt I had an advantage when he guarded me.
I know coach is going to keep me accountable for my low assist numbers (1) in this game but it seemed like none of my teammates were taking the open looks when I passed it to them... For an example Rob passed up a WIDE open layup to pass it back to me on the perimeter... Speaking of Rob though, he;s not really been the same since 2014 starter, I don't really know what's up with that but he sure is rebounding and we're winning so no issues there.

        Team Practice
        Coach Arambul Practice Introduction

Today I want to emphasis and improve our fast break offense and the transition back on defense. I like to have our team crashing the boards and trying to get second chance baskets but I also want to be able to prevent the other team from getting the easy basket on the other end.
I also want to talk a little about Stonewall High
        ...
        My Thoughts
Our team was garbage in fast break opportunities against Horrace Mantis. All they did was wait for the second teammate to come and force a pass.

        Coach Arambul Practice Introduction
So according to what I've heard recently, Stonewall doesn't really have an actual point guard. The one who does run point is a 5'10" small forward who believe it or not can actually handle the ball. They're main source of scoring comes down low from their center.
We could possibly switch to our 2-3 zone defense in this game and force them to shoot on the perimeter considering they don't have any guards who would be able to dribble the ball inside.
It could turn into an easy win for us...

          _______________________________________

The Eagles played a tough game against Stonewall High that ended with our first lost in 4 games. The Express were able to take advantage of our Eagles fourth quarter collapse and win the game. Jospeh Donnell tried his best to keep the Eagles alive in this game and scored his second straight double digit game with 13 points and 8 rebounds and Michael Kane cloned the achievement as he scored 11 points and this game.

My after game thoughts against Stonewall High...

I blew it... With around 25 seconds left in the game, we're down by I think 2? I threw a f***ing turnover... I saw Rob come to the top of the key and then as I throw the pass he just starts backpedalling and he misses the pass and Stonewall gets the steal and layup on the other end.
It was a good game going our way up until that fourth quarter as I watched the Express destroy us from the bench.
This has to be the most unorthodox basketball team I've ever played against. Coach had told us about them not really having any legit guards but I wasn't expecting my matchup to be a 6'2" guy who can shoot threes right and my face and nearly drop a triple double.
I'm not really happy about how we ended our winning streak here but we've gotta get over it and bounce back next game.

Wow this should be a great opportunity! Only thing that is bad is that I'm pretty sure this coach is going to have high expectations considering he's requesting to actually see me play.
Gonna talk to my mom about this.
              ...
              Convo with my mom
[b]Me: Hey mom you remember Travis right?
              Mom: Yes, why?
Me: Well he plays for this Fieldhouse AAU basketball team and he told the coach about me and he said he wanted to see me play at their practice tomorrow.
Mom: Mhm, do you have a ride there because I have to work and how much does it cost to play for them?
Me: Travis said he'll come pick me up tomorrow and uh it cost 750...
Mom: *Looks at me funny* 750?
Me: Yeah I was expecting that face but I mean AAU basketball can get me really far in achieving my goals.
Mom: I'll see what I can do Michael, I'm going to call your dad and see if he can help out.
Me: He's head coach of Wright State! Duh he can help! Thanks mom!

Personal Basketball Tryout For Indy Fieldhouse Elite
                Coach Introduction:
Coach: Hello you must be Michael?
Me: Yes sir, nice to meet you.
Coach: As well as it is to you, I'm coach Patrick. Now I've heard you're a good point guard huh?
Me: You can say that. I play for Central High School and I'm averaging around 10 points and 4 assists coming off the bench.
Coach: Wow that's pretty impressive. So I'm gonna put you in some of our team scrimmages here in a moment but I'd like to tell you about our team we have built together as of now.
You're main competition at the point guard position, Keith Hai. He's a brain type of player... He knows a lot about the game especially on defense but at the same time he doesn't have the intangibles needed for a point guard and I don't know if I really can depend on him to be a consistent guard who will lead us and that's where you'll come in.
Me: I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win coach...
Coach: I like that attitude... We're also a strictly defensive minded team and we lead our defense into many fast break buckets and you'll probably see a lot of those in these scrimmages so I want you to be aware of you're passes you make.
                Me: Alright.
Coach: Alright, let's get this game running
                ...
                Indy Fieldhouse Elite Scrimmage
Well the coach is kind of giving mixed signals on his thoughts on the current point guard situation. He's saying that this team is defensive oriented and that Keith is a tremendous defender but then he says he doesn't think he can be the starting guard. I don't really know how this situation will work out because I myself have been told I needed to improve on the defensive end all throughout my basketball career plus the fact of me standing at only 5'4" and I'm looking at Keith right now and he looks like he's about 5 inches taller than me...
So I've got the ball handling skills the coach apparently wants but I don't have the great defense the team specializes in.
                ...
The game is really flowing well and everything is coming easy despite having Keith defending me. I have this guy who looks like he's about 6'4" plus Giuseppe Leonardo. Our team really dominates the game until we win 40-32 as I go for 16 points without ease while also getting 5 assists.
I was expecting the coach to really be happy with my performance and he was. After the scrimmage he called me over and told me I did well out there and that he'd like to contact my mom to get me registered for the team.

                  March 2nd, 2014

                  _______________________________________

Yesterday the Eagles traveled to Oakdale High School and came back with a win 57-48. Central High School was able to cruise their way through this game and didn't have many issues on offense or defense. The Eagles defensive smartness led to Oakdale shooting just about 33% throughout the game and 23% from beyond the arc. They were really able to keep them out of the lane. Jospeh Donnell scored his third straight double digit game with a team and personal high of 22 points, Jospeh was hot the entire game and it led to 8-15 shooting including 5 three pointers. Behind him in scoring was Jeremy Rich who had a great game with 12 points and 8 rebounds while only missing 2 of his 7 field goals.
Central High School will bring in Roosevelt High on March 16th, game starts at 7:30!

My after game thoughts against Oakdale High School...

I couldn't get a bucket this game if my life had depended on it... Only thing was, I wasn't mad. If we win I'm ok and I felt I actually contributed well in this game on defense, made some clutch free throws, and I think I took care of the ball on offense. Coach didn't play me as long as she usually does but like I said we won and I'm happy.
Oh and Jospeh Donnell is really becoming a threat to our opponents. He's a deadeye seriously!

The Central High School Eagles headed back on their winning way by winning their last 2 games after defeating Roosevelt High 49-59. Center Elton Rodolfo had his second double double of the season as he led the team in scoring and rebounds with 12 and 13, he also added 3 assists in 2 blocks to top his great performance. The Eagles in general were able to outsmart the Rhinos on offense and defense and keep them from taking control on the game.
This game will mark Central High School freshman second in our conference. Great job Eagles!

The season is winding down for our freshman Eagles, only 4 more games are left on the schedule. Their upcoming game is against Flatpoint High School so come out and support your varsity and freshman teams!
