      SACRAMENTO OFFSEASON REVIEW

With the 7th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select…

Ben Mclemore out of Kansas University.

Ben should be a great fit for a young, athletic Sacramento team. He is said to be a more athletic version of Ray Allen. He was predicted to be the Number 1 pick by ESPN's Jay Bilas but ultimately fell to the Kings.

Did the Kings get the steal of the draft or is Mclemore all just hype? The season will only tell...

      ALSO

With the 36th pick, the Sacramento Kings decided to take Ray McCallum out of Detroit University. Said to be a decent PG, McCallum really adds some more athleticism to this team.

      BREAKING NEWS!
      Tyreke Evans Traded to Pelicans

It has just been announced that there has been a three team deal that will send Tyreke Evans to the New Orleans Pelicans. In return for Evans, Sacramento will receive PG Greivis Vasquez and two future second round picks. The other team involved was the Portland Trail Blazers. They received Robin Lopez and Terrel Harris.
Also, the Pelicans will also gain rookie Jeff Withey out of Kansas.

This trade is a sign that the Kings may be rebuilding once again. This trade will put a lot of pressure on all the young player's shoulders as well as current team captain, Demarcus Cousins. Will the Kings thrive under the pressure? Or will this be another Sac-Town flop?

      Kings Acquire Mbah A Moute

The Sacramento Kings have traded 2016 and 2018 second round picks to Milwaukee in exchange for Luc Mbah A Moute. Known mostly for his gritty defense, the Cameroonian will fit in well on this team. He can be used to shutdown opposing small forwards and won't be wasting much energy on the offensive end either. This young Kings team already has enough scoring power and what they really needed was a solid defender. Luc Mbah A Moute is exactly what they asked for.

      Sac-Town resigns Landry

Landry signed his four-year, $26 million deal Monday. Landry played parts of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons for Sacramento.

The 29-year-old power forward averaged 10.8 points and six rebounds in 23.2 minutes off the bench to help the Warriors reach the second round of the playoffs last season. He opted out of the final year of his two-year, $8 million deal with Golden State last month to become a free agent.

      Cousins Resigns
The new owner of the Sacramento Kings is now betting big on DeMarcus Cousins.

The Kings signed Cousins to a four-year maximum contract extension on Monday, saying the 23-year-old center is the foundation the franchise will build on to lead a struggling team into a new era.

Sacramento did not disclose financial terms. The deal is worth $62 million, sources with knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com last week.

Sacramento hasn't had a winning season since 2006, but the new Kings management is comfortable investing in a player considered one of the NBA's best young big men but who also has drawn multiple suspensions from both the team and the league for his behavior.

"From my perspective, it isn't really that much of a leap of faith," said Ranadive, whose purchase of the team from the Maloof family was approved by the NBA in May. "I'm just doing what I do in my business every day, just betting on the best. And he represents the best."

The fifth overall selection of the 2010 NBA draft, Cousins led the Kings last season with averages of 17.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals and also averaged 2.7 assists. He ranked ninth among the league's leading rebounders.

      Shaq Buys Stake in Kings
As the Kings continue their image makeover that was sparked by the late May sale of the team to Vivek Ranadive, they have made a big and bold move by adding O'Neal as a minority owner. The TNT analyst once gleaned pleasure in deriding the Kings, whom he owned in a very different way when his Lakers thrice knocked their rival out of the playoffs en route to titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Now his joy will come from seeing one of the league's worst-performing franchises turn things around.

His involvement will begin in earnest today, as O'Neal —who has a doctorate degree in education from Barry University in Miami —plans to meet with Kings players and coaches in Sacramento before having dinner with franchise centerpiece and new protégé DeMarcus Cousins.

New to the boards but this is gonna be good. It's gonna be interesting what you do with Shaq. Cousins is dominate and can be one of the best in the league at center. Good luck.

Re: Welcome to Shaqramento: A King's Association

                      Shaq has promise for fans

At a press announcement earlier today, Shaq promised the fans of Sacramento a playoff birth.

"These fans have been loyal since day one to this team," said O'Neal "and here's what I'm promising. This team will be the best is has been in years. We will be a playoff team if not a contender. We are starting a dynasty here in Sac, now let's go." With that, Shaquille stood up and simply left the room.

This comes as a very big surprise as the Kings haven't made the playoffs since the 2005-06 season. Everyone thought this was going to be a rebuilding year, but Shaq must have a blueprint for success.

Nice update! That is a very bold statement from Shaq. That is true to his character though, so I can definitely see him making such a claim. However, my guess is that the Kings will need to make some moves in order to increase their chances of making this happen. Cousins is solid, but they lost a lot of scoring when Tyreke left.

I am interested to see how this story develops! I'm looking forward to more updates!

                            Kings Strengths, Weaknesses, and Predictions

                            Strengths

                            Scoring
Believe it or not, the Kings were actually one of the better offensive teams last season. The team finished 12th in offensive rating at 106.85 points per 100 possessions. It also finished 10th in scoring, with an average of 100.2 points per game. Although they did lose Tyreke Evans, they gained a good passing PG in Vasquez. He should be able to mesh well with Demarcus Cousins and have a fairly good offensive season.

                            Backcourt Depth
Sacramento is just loadedat the point guard and shooting guard positions. At PG they have Greivis Vasquez, Isaiah Thomas and rookie Ray McCallum. All three of these players have a similar all-around style of play. As for shooting guard, they have 7th overall pick Ben Mclemore, slasher Marcus Thorton and sharpshooter Jimmer Fredette. All of these players have a pretty good scoring ability.

Since there are 6 decent and above players, do you guys expect Shaq to possibly trade one of these pieces for another player?

                            Youth/Potential
Even though the Kings aren't very good, at least they have age on their side. Six of their 14 players currently under contract are younger than 25 years old. And only three of their 14 players will be 30 or older when the season tips off. Furthermore, the Kings have seven players who all have three years or less of NBA experience. This does not mean every player will work out but at least there's a good shot.

                            Weaknesses

                            Defense
There's really no denying that the defense has been a glaring weakness on the Kings. They were one of the worst defensive teams last season. Sacramento had the second-worst defensive rating, allowing 112.16 points per 100 possessions.

                            Rebounding
Not only did the Kings struggle to prevent opponents from putting the ball in the basket, they also failed to corral rebounds on occasions when the opposition missed. Sacramento was the worst defensive-rebounding team in the league last season, only hauling in 71.0 percent of its defensive-rebounding opportunities. As far as the offensive glass is concerned, the Kings were marginally better, collecting 26.6 percent of their offensive-rebounding chances, which was good enough to rank them 16th in the NBA. Overall, the Kings were 25th in the NBA in team rebounding, averaging 40.5 rebounds per game. Conversely, the team was 24th in opponent rebounding, giving up an average of 43.5 rebounds.

                            Passing
While the Kings were actually one of the league's better teams when it came to scoring ability, they were one of the worst when it came to passing. And it makes sense if you spent much time watching the team last season, as many of its points came off of one-on-one baskets. According to NBA.com/stats, Sacramento only assisted 55.3 percent of its baskets last season. Only the New York Knicks, who assisted 52.7 percent of their baskets, were worse. The Kings were also one of the worst teams in passing efficiency, ranking 24th with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.42 and 27th with an assist ratio of 16.1. The addition of Greivis Vasquez should really help in this regard. Vasquez was third in assist percentage among all qualifiers last season. Compared to the team's previous starting point guard, Isaiah Thomas, who was ranked 61st among qualifiers, it's a significant upgrade.

                            PREDICTED STARTING LINEUP
                            PG: VASQUEZ
                            SG: MCLEMORE
                            SF: MBAH A MOUTE
                            PF: THOMPSON
                            C: COUSINS

FIRST 3 OFF THE BENCH: THORTON (SG), LANDRY (PF), THOMAS (PG)

                            2012-13 Record: 28-54
                            Predicted 2013 Record:38-44

I love this update! That layout really makes everything clear heading into the season! I am now very anxious to see if these predictions come true. I do like the addition of Vasquez. I think he has the potential to help set Cousins up in the post. A lot better then Tyreke "ball hog" Evans lol

It will be very interesting to see if any trades are made. You are very deep at guard, maybe a little too deep. Since the Kings are trying to make the playoffs, it may be a wise move to try to land a solid vet or two in order to give these young guns some leadership. Maybe offer Captain Jack a free agent deal and as funny as it sounds, try to add Derek Fisher? A little leadership goes a long way, and D Fish could mentor the young guards that you keep.

Just ideas of course haha. I look forward to seeing what you actually come up with! Good luck! This is off to a great start
