The Recruits Shaping the Future: Volume 5
      April, 2016

Welcome to the Recruits Shaping the Future series, here I'll follow a list of basketball prospects including Dontae Brown, Kane Herren, Tuomas Kousa, Nuka Seyde, Damon Wright, Harry Fredhman, Cole Campbell, and Stone Harper. It’s a wrap for this college basketball season, Louisville won it all, let’s see revisit the RSHF prospects.

Recruits Shaping the Future Stats Stats - 15-16
      PlayerGPMINPPGRPGAPGSPGBPGTPGFPG
      Cole Campbell (Notre Dame)2224.58.43.52.21.50.51.52.4
      Damon Wright (Rutgers)3129.011.81.11.81.30.02.22.1
      Dontae' Brown (Oregon)3527.37.74.42.51.30.01.82.5
      Harry Fredman (Duke)3622.013.55.00.31.11.11.63.0
      Nuka Seyde (Temple)303.21.80.90.00.00.30.40.3
      Stone Harper (Stanford)2421.44.83.52.00.80.21.82.7

      Dontae' Brown – Oregon
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • Team Record: 23-12
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Dontae’ Brown is coming off an exceptional freshman season, his Oregon Ducks made it only to the second round of the Big Dance after losing to #3 Ole Miss… Brown scored 12 against Purdue in the round of 64 only to struggle with 4 points against the Ole Miss team. With Dwyane Benjamin graduating, look for Dontae’ to step up as an everyday starter next season.

      Kane Herren – Undecided
      • High School All-Conference Honors

The guard still puts Harvard at the top of his list, probable that he’ll commit there this upcoming season as a senior.

      Tuomas Kousa - Undecided

Tuomas started out with a light recruitment from a couple of college programs, now the Finland native is receiving interests from over 23 programs including; Michigan, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Providence, and Seton Hall.

      Nuka Seyde – Temple
      • Team Record: 17-13
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Nuka is sadly the odd man out in this class… The forward’s minute per game didn’t even exceed over 4 as his team missed out in the Big Dance.

      Damon Wright – Rutgers
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • Team Record: 16-15
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Rutgers started the season out with a blast, they beat multiple top ranked teams including North Carolina and Pittsburgh but when conference play came around they plummeted and their season ended after the regular season 49-97 loss against DePaul. Damon Wright and Junior Etou seemed to be the only light for the team, both averaging over ten points per game. Besides Rutger’s center Gregory Lewis, the entire starting five is returning next season.

      Harry Fredman – Duke
      • Second-Team All-American
      • Freshman of the Year
      • Freshman All-American
      • Conference Freshman of the Year
      • First-Team All-Conference
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • Team Record: 29-7
      • Pro Buzz: Lottery

Harry Fredman unsurprisingly wound up the most celebrated player in not only this series but also in the nation. His Duke Blue Devils made a great run in the season and approached the tourney as a #1 seed, they defeated #16 Radford by just 12 points, Fredman had 27 points… The little lead they contained got them a lot of criticism and the next round they lost to #8 Iowa 74-80 in a game where Fredman put up 14 points.

      Cole Campbell – Notre Dame
      • Team Record: 14-16
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Cole Campbell really picked things up since the last update in the series. The freshman didn’t receive any post-season awards because his main competition was Rutgers’s guard Damon Wright… When the two matched up back in February Notre Dame came out on top after a career high in points from Campbell with 26 as he outshined Damon Wright’s 20 in one of the most exciting point guard battles all season. Some speculate a rival formed between the two.

      Stone Harper - Stanford
      • Team Record: 12-19
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Unlike Campbell, Stone Harper had a down second half to the season as the Cardinals ended the season on a four game losing streak. Harper continued his duties as the starting point guard but wasn’t very productive at all… Stanford has both a five and four star recruit coming in next season along with two three stars. Leading scorer Chasson Randle will graduate so maybe Harper and co will find some success.

      * You guys have full control over your players so if you want to transfer, work on a specific part of your game, etc then just comment and I'll do it.

        2/11/2016

Greeley, Colo - Let’s welcome in two new transfers; Branford Jones (left) and Carlton Hurst (right).

Brandford Jones, coming out of Long Beach State, is a 6’3 shooting guard who never really got a chance over in California. Jones stands out as an athletic wing player who can knock down the mid-range jump shot and extend the range to the three point land as well. He’ll help our Bears out tremendously in the following season.

Carlton Hurst comes out of Colorado State also as a shooting guard... At 6’4, Hurst won freshman all-conference honors in the Mountain West while averaging 7.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists along with 1.3 steals per game. In his sophomore season he saw his minutes deduct by over 20 which led him to leaving… Like Brandford, Hurst is an athletic specimen and earned the nickname “Dunk machine” while in high school. Expect crowd pleasing jams from this junior!

April 10th, 2016 - Spring Break in Eugene (Part 1)

Kendall walks into coach’s compact office and looks at the papers he held in his own hands, “Coach, I need you to sign these documents, they’ll allow me to talk to other college coaches for the next few months.”

Coach Hill’s facial facial expression suddenly changes within the surprise, “So I assume you’ve made your decision, huh?”

“Yeah, I’m going to Eugene in a few days, I talked to one of my friends on the team and he said he’ll show me around their campus. It’s not that I don’t like or respect what you’re doing here but I’ve looked at the roster a couple of times, Tim is gone, Dominque is gone, Brenden is gone, even Corey. Besides me and Tevin, that was our whole team, literally. I’m going to have to drop thirty a game if we do anything this season…”

“Well,” he scratches his gray balding hair and glares at the papers Kendall laid down on the desk. “Are you completely sure this is what you want to do? We’ve got those two transfers coming in next season, Boone is supposed to be—“

“Yes I want to do this, I don’t care about that freshman and those transfers aren’t playing until next season, I can’t do all this by myself. I’m going to use this transfer redshirt and develop my game; I’ll be in the NBA in no time.”

He nods and picks up his pen, “Well, if that’s how you feel, I can’t stop you. Good luck… Just know if you ever change your mind we’ll still be here for you.”

Kendall arrived in Eugene a few days later and Dontae’ came and swooped him from the airport in his relatively new BMW. Kendall was stunned with the brand new leather interior as he got in; he assumed it must’ve just been the recruiting money.

“What’s up dude, so you ready to make this move?” Dontae’ says as Kendall gets in the back seat after seeing the front was taken up already, it was Dontae’s teammate Jaquan Lyle, they shook hands like they knew each other already.
“Yeah, I’m just ready to get out of Greeley, we don’t have anybody this year and the coach didn’t bring in anybody but a ****ing two and three star recruit. We’re definitely bound to be garbage and I’m not tryna be a part of that.”

“But didn’t y’all make it to the tournament?” Dontae’ asks curious of Kendall’s severe negativity to his own team.

“Yeah but it was all cause of me, I led them all the way there then nobody showed up when we played Oklahoma in the first round.”

“Well that’s why you got us,” Dontae’ says as he makes a turn into the highway. “If we got you, Jaquan right there, me, Jerald, Tron… Man the list goes on… We can win it all, for real.”

Jaquan finally speaks up, “Tae’ said you won almost every award in your conference, is that right?”

“Yeah basically… I got freshman all-American, conference player of the year, conference freshman of the year, all conference first team, and freshman all-conference… The thing about me is that I should’ve really been a four-five star recruit but my senior year just got all messed up… The Big Sky isn’t any competition for me; I need to be playing with y’all or at least some big time school.”

“Yeah I feel you…” Jaquan says and Dontae’ soon pulls into the Oregon University campus. Kendall is quickly astonished by the rather large University that was much bigger than back in Greeley. It was newer built and had eye catching landscaping that made for an ideal looking college destination from a first site.

“So this is it, welcome to Oregon” Dontae’ says. “I told everybody about you so you can already expect the girls to be all over you.” He laughs.

“Yeah the girls are crazy ‘round here. You can get used to it quick.” Jaquan adds as they pass up a couple of good looking girls as they speak.

Kendall thinks about Charlie back in Greeley as they say that. He’d be here for a couple days and he didn’t know if he’d be able to hold off the attractive women that long… Dontae’ soon pulled up to a small building near the arena.

“Coach’s office is inside of this building right there; we told him you were comin’ in today so he wanted to meet you. It’ll only take maybe ten-twenty minutes then I can show you around.”

“Alright let’s go then.” Kendall gets out the car and the two boys lead him into the office with the name Altman gold platted above the door. They don’t bother to knock; instead Jaquan busts open the door to see their head coach accompanied by two of the assistants.

“Sup coach!” Jaquan obnoxiously says as Altman takes his eyes off his colleagues and shakes his head as he glares up at the three athletes all standing over 6’5.

“What do you boys wa—,” he stops as he notices Kendall. “Is that the kid from Colorado, is that Kendall?”

“You bettcha coach, we’ll leave him here so y’all can talk. See you in a minute Kendall.” Dontae’ says as the two walk out the room and find a seat right outside and did their best to eavesdrop to the chatting inside. In the meantime Kendall starts the talk with his probable new coaches for the next season.

“We were just speaking a little about you,” Dana Altman smiles and extends his hand out to Kendall. “It’s good to finally meet you Jenkins.”

“Oh yeah? It’s good to meet you too.”

Kendall shakes hands and greets the two assistants as well; their names were Mark Hudson and Kenny Payne. They all have small talk and get to know Kendall for a good couple of minutes before Altman turns back to basketball.

“So I want to get right down to business with you because a lot of people are looking to meet you from what I hear… First of all, I’m glad to know you’re considering transferring to our Oregon campus here in Eugene. We had good success in the Pac-10 this past season as we went 23-12; sadly we lost it in the second round to Ole Miss… A lot of emotions were left in that game and you best bet that we’re going to be an extremely determined team when next season rolls around. Now, I heard about you at that school in Colorado, you earned freshman all-American honors and got them to the tournament nearly single handedly.”

“Yeah, we got the automatic bid after winning the post-season tournament. I think I had a double-double in that game, I had plenty of double-doubles throughout the season actually.”

“Yes so it looks like you’re well beyond the competition in that conference, especially to be just a true freshman. Is that why you are considering coming here?”

Kendall nods in agreement, “Yeah, exactly.”

“Alright so I’ll give you a breakdown on what’s on the plate here. To my understanding, you’re a small forward right?”

            “Yes.”

He starts to explain to Kendall the roster in terms of his specific competition when he’d have when he would come out of his redshirt sophomore year as a transfer. Overall there wasn’t much, Altman mentioned he might even be able to play alongside of Dontae’ by moving him down to the four. Kendall was very interested and envisioned himself as turning into a superstar at Oregon.

“So that’s it, we can keep in touch throughout the summer when you make your final decision,” Altman concludes. “We are one hundred percent open for you to join our basketball program, it’s all up to you kid.”

“Alright, sounds good, thanks.” Kendall shakes hands with all the coaches once again as he gets up from the chair.

“Okay then, enjoy the campus while you’re here.”

Tough choice, just don't want to stay at Northern Colorado.

Maybe go the small school route, perhaps you can fill Kendall's void at Northern Colorado

Gotta give one more year at Stanford! It will be interesting to see where Kendall ends up!

Yeah Stanford picked up a couple of pieces during the off-season and they now have a nice roster. Stone Harper is expected to start but we'll have to see how he meshes with the others

April 10th, 2016 - Spring Break in Eugene (Part 2)

“So how’d it go?” Dontae asks as Kendall walks out the office.

“He says everything will work out and that he’s one hundred percent interested in me playing for y’all.”

“So do that mean you’re coming here for sure?” JaQuan adds out of curiosity.

“I don’t know, it’s just that I’ve got my girl back at home—“

“What? Are you stupid?” Jaquan interrupts and laughs. “We’re college athletes, we can pull any girl we want around here. They’re all replaceable, trust me. How long have y’all even been dating.”

“Since like February… But it seems like it’s been a lot longer.”

“Man that’s only two months you gotta be kidding me,” Dontae laughed as they walked down the sidewalk back to the car. “Screw her, we’re going—“

“Come on dude, chill out.” Kendall says after the he disses his girlfriend.

“Yeah whatever, like I was saying, we’re going to go out; I’ll show you around the metro area and introduce you to some of the team and give you a look of the females around here. We were planning on hitting up a party later at ten too, you down?”

                            “Yeah, bet.”

“We should show him around the arena first?” Jaquan suggests. “That’s what got me persuaded to come here.”

“Right, same here, I didn’t even think about that.”

They switch directions and head over to the stadium isolated behind a streak of trees and on the way there they run into a couple of girls who chatted with each other. They notice the boys walking through and run over to hug JaQuan and Dontae while leaving Kendall hanging for the fact that they didn’t know who he was.

“These are some of the volleyball team girls,” Dontae says to Kendall. “Ladies, this is Kendall, he’s thinking about transferring here this year. He’s a freshman All-American.”

“Hey Kendall!” They all say with the addition of a smirk then they individually introduces themselves; April: a tall brunette whose face was caked with makeup, Maddie: a shorter and skinny girl who was pale but had good looks, Rachel: probably the best looking of the three with blonde hair going down to her back plus she had a great looking body.

“You shouldn’t need to do too much thinking about coming here,” Maddie says. “This is the best college in the world, when I say that I really mean it!”

“They aren’t lying, Kendall,” Jaquan says and pats him on the back. “You ladies want to come with us? We’re headed to The Pit to show Kendall the facilities in there, see what he’s missing out on.”

They all look at each other and come up with an agreement, “Sure.”

With that, they continue their path into the gym where Kendall is once again astonished from the first sight. The entrance was already blowing Northern Colorado out the water and it only got better as they paced themselves all the way to the court.

“… And this is where we play our game,” Dontae gazes around at the floor and seating area that sat just under 10,000 individuals. “All those seats around you, all of them are filled when game day comes around. It’s not like that at your small school is it?”

“Hell nah,” Kendall says slowly while looking around, admiring the huge stadium. “We were lucky if we had two thousand people show up.”

“Well welcome to Oregon” Dontae says. “I’m tellin’ you, this place is the bomb man.”

                            “I can see but—“

“But nothing,” Dontae exclaims. “I’m tired of you saying but, tell you what, I’ve gotta deal for you.”

                            Kendall chuckles, “What is it?”

“Let’s play one on one… If I win you stop this ‘but’ bull**** and announce to the nation TOMORROW that you’re coming to Oregon to play with some real hoopers, if I lose, man… I’ll transfer to your school, we can build up something there if that’s what you want.”

“Whoa, what? Kendall joins the others who are all thrown off by Dontaes part of the deal.

“Yeah, I’ll go to your school, we’ll dominate the small conference and be the hero’s I guess… But you see that’s not going to happen because I don’t lose one on one’s, point blank. We gotta deal?”

“I never loss a one on one either,” Kendall lied; he remembered getting schooled by the number one player at the LeBron camp in his junior year. “You’ve gotta deal, this is going to be good.”

“Alright bet, JaQuan go get us a ball from the rack over there.” Donte’ points over near the corner. “We’re going up to twelve, I get ball first.” JaQuan lobs a ball into the hands on Dontae. “Checkup.”

Kendall bounces the ball to Dontae and sags off him. Dontae looks down at the space and shakes his head at Kendall, “Man I thought you knew me better than that.” He launches a three that hits nothing but net.

“Make it take it.” He announces as Kendall goes to grab the ball near the bottom of the net.

Dontae dribble around a little until he ended up in the corner where he shot another three that missed this time. Kendall jumped up and got the rebound and ran in for a layup.

                            “One to one.”

He received the check and sized Dontae up and tried to take him to the rim but missed the layup only to recover on a rebound and put it back up. The next play he’d shoot a contested jumper at the right elbow that missed. Dontae grabbed the rebound and dunked it in to please the girls who watched from the sideline with JaQuan. Eventually the score was 6-2 with Dontae ahead.

“You’re not ready man.” He brags as Kendall checks up with him. He pulls up for a three right when the ball touches his hands and it’s nothing but net once again.

“Eight to two, come on I thought you were better than this.” He checks up once again and Dontae does the same thing, shoots the three but this time it misses and Kendall jogs to get the rebound. He clears the rock and tries Dontae with a sizeup but he doesn’t budge. He makes a change of plans and dribbles to the right near the elbow then switches to the left and gets Dontae out of position while Kendall finishes with a dunk to redeem himself to the ladies who were seeing him get made a fool of.

Kendall soon had gotten himself back in it with 8 points while Dontae struggled to score the game point at 11. That changed when he hit Kendall with a behind the back move on the baseline that sent Kendall reaching, Dontae proceeded towards the basket for an easy layup.

“That’s the game, looks like Oregon’s got an official transfer.”

Note: Shoutout to ThatKidNamedTae who helped me develop this storyline and his character

The Recruits Shaping the Future: Volume 6
                              Mid April, 2016

Welcome to the Recruits Shaping the Future series, here I'll follow a list of basketball prospects including Dontae Brown, Kane Herren, Tuomas Kousa, Nuka Seyde, Damon Wright, Harry Fredhman, Cole Campbell, and Stone Harper. The college basketball off-season is currently in the works, let's see how the RSTF crew is holding up... Also let's welcome Bob Bolig and Tyler Manilow to the clique!

                              Dontae' Brown – Oregon
                              • Freshman All-Conference
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Dontae' is returning for another season as an Oregon Duck. He's a clear cut starter for this year's squad and on top of that should be a main factor to the team's success. Over this off-season the Ducks picked up 4 star recruits Jean Now [#63 in nation] and Garry Dahi [#77 in nation] along with two three star recruits including Alaska's Mr. Basketball Lorenzo Swanson.

                              Kane Herren – Undecided
                              • High School All-Conference

Kane Herren is finishing up his junior year and will continue his play with the BABC EYBL team this upcoming summer. Harvard continues to lead the way.

                              Tuomas Kousa - Undecided

Tuomas started out with a light recruitment from a couple of college programs, now the Finland native is receiving interests from over 23 programs including; Michigan, Villanova, Pittsburgh, Providence, and Seton Hall.

                              Nuka Seyde – Temple
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Nuka is sticking with the Temple Owls and will possibly have a shot at earning playing time this year with most of the competition graduating. All that's left in the power forward department is Mark Williams and Jaylen Bond.

                              Damon Wright – Rutgers
                              • Freshman All-Conference
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Dark Horse

Damon Wright is expected to have a huge breakout season for Rutgers... The team returned a lot of players and also added the ESPN Top 100's 96th best player in power forward Femi Johnsen. Wright may very well see himself in many NBA Mock Drafts this season.

                              Harry Fredman – Duke
                              • Second-Team All-American
                              • Freshman of the Year
                              • Freshman All-American
                              • Conference Freshman of the Year
                              • First-Team All-Conference
                              • Freshman All-Conference
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Top Pick

Duke sees nothing but the National Championship after being knocked out last season. They've got returning players in Tyus Jones, Justice Winslow, Amile Jefferson, Grayson Allen, and Rasheed Suliamon who suffered from an injury... Not to mention Harry Fredman who's reportedly now 7'2 and expected to be the number one pick in the upcoming draft. Duke is in for a year, no doubt.

                              Cole Campbell – Notre Dame
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Campbell will definitely have a good season this year after averaging 8.4 PPG as a freshman. He returns as the second leading scorer behind Demetrius Jackson. Notre Dame on the other hand will probably struggle in the loaded Big East conference. Only time will tell.

                              Stone Harper - Stanford
                              • Team Record: N/A
                              • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Harper didn't really stand out too much this past season as a freshman. This time around he's looking to utilize his scoring ability he used so often in his high school years to make a name for himself on the Stanford roster that includes returning started Reid Travis, Schuyler Rimmer, and Earl Crumbley. If he doesn't he'll put his starting spot up for grabs by the more proven guard in Marcus Allen. On top of these returnees, the Cardinals have added two four star recruits and two three stars.

                              Bob Bolig - Undecided
                              • High School All-Conference
                              • High School All-State

Bob Bolig says he will not be playing in the upcoming EYBL, instead he'll be working on his game in silence after failing to win the state title at his high school in Johnstown. He's already highly recruited as a three star recruit with interests coming from Pittsburgh, Nova', Ohio State, Alabama, and Seton Hall.

                              Tyler Manilow - Undecided
                              • High School All-Conference
                              • High School All-State
                              • High School All-Academic

Manilow has quietly been on the rise for the past couple of years and now as a senior he's narrowed his list to Arizona State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, and San Diego... Manilow says if he was to get offers from his dream college San Diego State he'd drop all those colleges and sign there.

                              * You guys have full control over your players so if you want to transfer, work on a specific part of your game, etc then just comment and I'll do it.

                                April 11th, 2016 - Official

Kendall was extremely hung the next morning. He had just waked up on an un-familiar couch that only turned out to be just Dontae’s place but Kendall was completely unaware of what was going on. Last night they had attended a party that was supposed to be one of the more of a chill natured; instead it was one of the most intense parties Kendall would ever go to.

Dontae’ walked in the living after hearing some noise and sees Kendall is awake and rubbings his face as if he was experiencing pain. “Aye, Kendall,” he said while tapping at his shoulder. “You alright?”

Kendall was a little startled but then realized the situation, “Yeah, I’m good, I just got a crazy headache.”

“Yeah I figure… You have to be going through the biggest hangovers ever; you were drinking like hell last night. Me and JaQuan had to help you into the car.”

“Was I really? I never drink like that… I always thought it was stupid.”

“It is, I go to the parties for the women,” he turns on the television and switches the channel to ESPN. “Drinking like that can **** with your career.”

“Yeah, I know… But speaking of girls, I wasn’t messing with any of them right?” He pulled out his phone and saw he had two missed calls from Charlie who was in vacating in Florida with her friends. She was worried about these exact scenarios when Kendall turned her down to go to Eugene.

“The question is who you didn’t mess with!” Dontae laughs and tries to give dap to Kendall but is still empty handed.

“Nah, that’s not good at all… What do you mean?” Kendall gets nervous. “Like how was I acting around them?”

“I mean, I wasn’t following you around so I don’t really know,” Dontae says. “I’d assume you got a few of them to get down on their knees.” He laughs and pokes at him.

“**** that man, if that’s what you thinking then I probably did even more.”

“That wouldn’t be good, don’t you already got like six kids?”

“No shut up, I’ve got twins but I barely get to see them cause they stay with their mom in Las Vegas. We were never even together.”

“Well damn,” he says. “Good luck on not repeating that, but in the meantime – you know what today is right?”

                                “No, what is it?”

“You’re making the announcement that you’re transferring here. The deal was a deal.”

“Yeah whatever, get off my damn back about it, I still have to tell my mom and stuff. Why you even want me to come here so bad?”

“Why I want you to come here so bad?” Dontae repeats. “I’m trying to win a title, I’m a winner and anything less is failure... I’m just trying to give this school the best crack at it before I graduate or leave for the NBA. You want to come here right?”

“Yeah, I’ve always wanted to come to Oregon… I remember I even wrote down in my senior year that I wanted to get recruited by either Oregon or Arizona. It’s just that Northern Colorado has a place in my heart and a girl there was my heart… It’s a harder process than what it sounds like.”

Dontae gives him a dull looks then breaks out laughing, “Man you sound like Drake right now! Soft *** bitch. How does a place that nobody ever heard of have a place in your heart? And for the thousandth time, THE GIRLS ARE REPLACABLE!”

“I’m far from soft so chill out with that,” Kendall says sternly. “But you know what, **** it, I’m going to call everybody right now and let them know it’s official.”

“My man!” Dontae slices hands and Kendall starts making the phone calls.

First was his mom who had been begging for him to return home and go to UNLV but the problem with that was 1.) UNLV barely wanted him anymore and 2.) that conference was too inconsistent, some years they competed on higher levels then power conferences and others they were no more than their mid-major label. Still, she was a little buzzed to know she’d once again not be able to go to the majority of his games after only attending a total of two at Northern Colorado.

Next was Charlie, this emotional conversation ended up lasting for just over an hour and concluded with Kendall telling her they’d further discuss it when they both got back to campus. He’d tell his teammates and coach when he returned as well.

First he had to finish up with the semester, give everything prepared before it became official.
