The Recruits Shaping the Future: Volume 8
      January, 2017

Welcome to the Recruits Shaping the Future series, here I'll follow a list of basketball prospects including Dontae Brown, Kane Herren, Tuomas Kousa, Nuka Seyde, Damon Wright, Harry Fredhman, Cole Campbell, Stone Harper, Bob Bolig, Emmanuel Porter Jr., Treyvonn Damon, Tyler Manilow, Tyrone Damon, Rocco White, and Devante Brown. The college basketball season about two months in, let's see how our prospects are doing.

      STATS
      Spoiler

      Dontae' Brown – Oregon
      • High School All-American
      • High School All-State
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • First-Team All-Conference
      • Team Record: 12-0
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Dontae' Brown is simply not fitting in with the emergence of Kendall Jenkins. It was rumored that the two were best friends at one points but that friendship has plummeted as Jenkins outshines Brown on the stat sheet. He's played very poorly over the last couple of games; he had just two points against Georgia Southern.

      Kane Herren – Holy Cross
      • Team Record: 7-4
      • High School All-Conference

Kane Herren still isn't getting a lot of run with Holy Cross. The team is barely playing him...

      Tuomas Kousa - Undecided
      • High School Team Record: 17-1
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Kousa is closing in on the University of Miami but hasn't made anything official as of yet. With the Hurriance's starting point guard Ja'Quan Newton graduating next season, Kousa has a great chance at some immediate play down at the U.

      Nuka Seyde – Temple
      • Team Record: 3-8
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Nuka isn't happy at Temple and has made the decision that he'll transfer next season -- most likely to Harvard. In the meantime, he'll need to finish the season out with the struggling Owls, Nuka is still starting but his production has gone down.

      Damon Wright – Rutgers
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • Team Record: 7-6
      • Pro Buzz: First Round

Rutgers isn't having much success but Damon Wright is. The Scarlet Knights just opened their conference schedule up with a loss against #7 Marquette, in this game Wright scored 35 points that wasn't enough to lift his team over the Eagles.

      Harry Fredman – Duke
      • Second-Team All-American
      • Freshman of the Year
      • Freshman All-American
      • Conference Freshman of the Year
      • First-Team All-Conference x2
      • Freshman All-Conference
      • Team Record: N/A
      • Pro Buzz: Drafted

More information to come once I get my Xbox One.

      Cole Campbell – Notre Dame
      • Team Record: 7-4
      • Pro Buzz: Second Round

Nortre Dame started the season 1-4 before jumping on a six game winning streak, they recently lost against #20 Seton Hall in the conference game opener. Campbell had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

      Stone Harper - Stanford
      • Team Record: 8-3
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Stone Harper started the season off hot but a sprained knee injury has derailed his success. He tried to play with the injury but was removed from the lineup before recently making his return where he scored 7 points with 5 assists and 3 steals. His teammate Ried Travis who's averaging 20.9 points has been carrying the load for the Cardinals. They're taking on Oregon (12-0) on New Years.

      Bob Bolig - Pittsburgh
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • High School State Champion
      • Team Record: 6-6
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Not much going on for Bolig, he's riding the bench as a freshman for Pittsburgh who's currently 6-6. I would think he expected more playing time as well as a better performance from his team who defended for the National Championship just a season ago.

      Tyler Manilow – Northern Colorado
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • High School All-Academic
      • High School State Runner Up
      • Team Record: 9-4
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Tyler Manilow is tearing it up from the bench at Northern Colorado. He's made a name for himself by constantly scoring in double figures despite not being a starter. The debate on whether or not he should start has came up a lot.

      Emmanuel Porter Jr. - Kentucky
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • High School All-American
      • High School State Champion
      • Ohio Mr. Basketball
      • Team Record: 11-3
      • Pro Buzz: Lottery

Emmanuel Porter Jr is in the running for the freshman of the year award as he continued to post solid stats this season in the SEC. Kentucky will be playing Alabama to start conference play and Porter is coming off a 17 point game against Charleston Southern.

      Treyvonn Damon - Arizona
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • High School All-American
      • Washington D.C. Mr. Basketball
      • Team Record: 13-0
      • Pro Buzz: First Round

Damon earned a starting position as a freshman for Arizona and it looks like he'll keep it for the remainder of the season. With the Wildcats currently undefeated, they opened the conference schedule with Washington in a 87-57 win where Tyreyvonn Damon scored 13 points along with 9 rebounds.

      Hugh Hart - North Carolina
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • Team Record: 6-5
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

North Carolina is starting to pick up its slack after starting the season 0-4... Hugh Hart gets only a moderate amount of action.

      Tyrone Damon - Oregon
      • High School All-American
      • High School All-Conference
      • High School All-State
      • Team Record: 12-0
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Tyrone Damon doesn't like riding the pine at Oregon and there's even been some rumors that he may transfer... Coach Altman has taken notice and with Jaquan Lyle previously out with an injury, Damon got the start and scored 13 points against Montana State.

      Rocco White - Texas A&M
      • High School All-Conference
      • Team Record: 10-2
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Texas A&M is doing great but Rocco White is patiently waiting for his turn.

      Devante Brown - Undecided
      • High School All-Conference (Junior)
      • High School State Champion (Freshman)
      • High School Team Record: 12-3
      • Pro Buzz: Undrafted

Devante is currently doing well enough in Brooklyn to receive more interest from college programs including; Michigan, Ohio State, and Florida.

      * You guys have full control over your players so if you want to transfer, work on a specific part of your game, declare for draft, etc then just comment and I'll do it.

OREGON OPEN CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH WIN AT STANFORD

        COURTESY: GODUCKS.COM
        RELEASE DATE: 1/1/2017

        by Stan Kane
        Editor, GoDucks.com

EUGENE, ORE — While you were out enjoying New Years day, Oregon was at the Maples Pavilion trying to keep their undefeated season hopes alive with a win over (8-3) Stanford, 92-83.

How It Happened: Ahmad Rorie has been on a tear lately, after scoring 22 points against Coppin State, Rorie led the team with a career high 26 points against Stanford that was much needed when Stanford came out with a handful of early scoring possessions. The Ducks would be able to fight back behind a couple of buckets from Kendall Jenkins and Jaquan Lyle that would lead to a high scoring 56-46 half.

Stanford would not let Oregon run off in a cakewalk, they fought back behind their trio of double-digit scorers and made it appear that they would possibly be able to end Oregon's undefeated start to the season. That would however not be the case when Jordan Bell and Tyrone Damon joined the scoring party to lock up the 92-83 win.

Who Stood Out: Senior point guard Ahmad Rorie, the guard has been dealing with a couple of injuries lately but that didn't show in this game. He scored an early 16 points in the first half then added 10 in the second to finish with a career high 26 points.

Quotable: “Stanford is a good team with quite a few players who can put some points on the board quickly. They got that production from some of their players but we were able to answer back and it led to the win.” – UO coach Dana Altman

What It Means: There are five undefeated programs left in Men's NCAA Division One Basketball and Oregon is one of them. They're currently ranked #7 in the AP Top 25 but with this conference win over a good Stanford team, they should certainly enter the top five this upcoming week.

Upsides and Downsides: Stanford pressured Oregon and forced them to play an extremely high paced style of basketball that the Ducks are only somewhat fond of. This can be dangerous against a team like Arizona who Oregon will take on in about a week. Upsides can include center Jordan Bell who's finally stepped up his game which will be vital in the Pac-10.

Up Next: The Ducks will continue their road trip with the next game at (7-4) Washington State.

                January 8th, 2017 - Everybody's Watching

“This is huge, Arizona?” Kendall talks with Ahmad at the Arizona airport. “The closest I’ve ever played to Arizona was Northern Arizona! You know how high my draft stock can go up if I play good tonight?”

“Don’t worry about a ****ing draft stock, the statement is – you know we can be ranked number one if we win this game? Get ya mind right boy.”

Kendall was hyped about this game, he didn’t care what Ahmad said, he just wanted to play good because everybody who considered themselves as a college basketball follower was going to be tuned into this game and that included scouts – scouts that’d be watching every move from the stands. Only thing that Kendall didn’t know was…, well you’ll see.

The bus pulls into the underground parking area and the men make their way into the arena where they’re shown to the futuristic designed locker room. Kendall takes off his street clothes and pulls out his uniform and takes a moment to admire it, he then mumbles, “Kendall… Jenkins… Gonna be the best player to ever do it.”

With everybody dressed and ready to go, Coach Altman takes the center and everybody surrounds him on the circular bench.

“This is it, you guys have all been talking about how you deserve to be the number one team in the nation, well here’s your shot. We take out Arizona and we’ll be crowned as not only the best in the conference but also in those media polls. It’s all about how bad you want it out there, Arizona isn’t going to be like Washington State or like Stanford, they’re going to be ARIZONA and if we sleep on just ONE play then they’ll take over in a heartbeat. This is big, don’t go out there and play not to lose, play to win.”

He continues and goes on about the game plan before everybody gets fired up and jogs out to take the floor which had Arizona already out and warming up.

It wasn’t too long until the ball was tossed up, Jordan skied over Arizona’s 7’1” Dusan Ristic and tipped the ball back to Ahmad who came up initiated the offense.

Kendall went down the court clapping, “Here we go!”

                      January 9th, 2018 - Setback

Man, that's looking bad... It's a broken toe -- it usually takes about a month to fully recover from this.

                      • • •

“How’s your toe?” Brittney comes in the living room and brings Kendall a plate of food she had prepared for him.

“Feel like ****, I had one ****ing chance to prove myself then this happens!” Kendall exclaims, he never recovered from the anger ever since the trainers told him he had broken his toe. “I bet you by the time I come back the team is going to have lost all of our damn games. The scouts aren’t going to give a **** about us, or even more importantly, ME.”

Kendall was glad he had made up with Brittney, she gave him someone to talk to in these type of situations and the fact that she was a basketball player herself made things even better. His thoughts about Charlie were fading, not fully, but just a little. They were talking less and less but when they did talk it seemed like nothing ever happened. He didn’t quite know how it’d be when they reunited…

“The team will be fine, they’ve still got—“

“I don’t care about the team, I don’t care about any of this! I just want to make it to the league, you don’t know how long I’ve had to wait for something I could’ve already had! You know what they project me as?” Kendall doesn’t wait for her response, “a second round draft pick! What the **** do I need to do because I swear I’m not staying in college another year!”

Brittney just looks at him speechless, “It’s just an injury… Everybody gets injured sometimes, I think you’re forgetting that there’s still the conference tournament and the NCAA tournament, you can still get attention. You’re acting like it’s the end of the road.”

Kendall watched the practice undergo from the sideline, he thought about skipping it but then had a change of mind at the last minute. After all, he had talked bad about his team earlier but he didn’t really mean it, Kendall loved his team and he had faith that they could play well enough without him but the thing that bugged him was; what if they didn’t?

“Things are going to be different around here, one of our best players is over there on crutches. Losing that Arizona game is good and bad; you guys are now in reality… It’s time to step out of the fantasizing and realize that the road to that national championship isn’t going to be easy as you guys think. We’re going to have to start working two times more harder if we want to make it.”

                            OREGON FALLS TO #2 ARIZONA

                            COURTESY: GODUCKS.COM
                            RELEASE DATE: 1/8/2018

                            Editor, GoDucks.com

EUGENE, ORE — Two months into the college basketball season and Oregon has finally yet sadly, lost there first game in an 89-80 lost against fellow top-5 team: Arizona. This game will go down as one of the best showcased so far in the 2017-18 season.

How It Happened: Oregon actually came out and put points on the scoreboard in a hurry. The shocked Arizona team didn't see it coming which forced them to pick up the pace, which they would benefit from. The scores started going back and forth with Jaquan Lyle and Kendall Jenkins trading baskets for the Ducks. It wouldn't be until Craig Victor came in late in the half for the Wildcats to hold off Oregon. The halftime score stood at 50-44 with Arizona on top.

This next half had Oregon seriously making a comeback with reserve Tyrone Damon coming in and scoring as many as 11 points in that half alone. Still, Oregon had no answer for center Dusan Ristic who would finish with 20 points and 6 blocks. Ristic and Victor doubled up with 20 points which would lead their team to the 89-80 win.

Who Stood Out: Kendall Jenkins was destined to finish with a great game until he went out with what was reported to be a broken toe early in the second half. Jenkins had already accumulated 13 points and 4 rebounds before the incident and it's said that he'll miss up to a month for the Ducks. Jaquan Lyle stepped it up for the injured Jenkins and scored 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

With the lineup shifted over, Tyrone Damon entered the game in replacement and scored all his 11 points in the second half, he went 3-6 overall with all his makes coming from the three point line. Ahmad Rorie played away from his scoring mentality and dished out 9 assists with just 4 points, along with those 9 assists however was 6 turnovers.

For Arizona, Dusan Ristic led the way with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Sixth man and senior Craig Victor scored his share of 20 as well with the addition of 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Quotable: “This is what college basketball fans love to see, two great teams going at it. We had a great chance at winning this game but there was some adversary -- we lost Kendall and our chemistry we had going on the floor was busted for a moment, that allowed Arizona to begin to pull away.” – UO coach Dana Altman

What It Means: Oregon drops its first game of the season while Arizona moves up to 15-1 after the Stanford lost last week. With leading scorer Kendall Jenkins out, the team will need to bring in it's replacement which will likely be either Tyrone Damon or Jerald Potter. The fan base is unsure of how the team will end up without Jenkins but with just a couple of more wins will lock them in for the upcoming March Madness tournament.

Upsides and Downsides: Starting Dontae' Brown and Kendall Jenkins at the 3 and 4 was risky and now we know why. Power forwards Louis Nardi scored 10, and Kaylan Petkunas combined with Craig Victor to score 30 points off the bench. Brown and Jenkins are small forwards, with the injury of Jenkins, Altman will have the opportunity to start one of his true power forwards along with Jordan Bell, those forward vary from Tron O'Donnell or Garry Dahi.

Up Next: Oregon returns back to The Pit to face off against (12-4) USC.

Thats a good choice, while st johns is the worst team in the big east at 5-11, brown will undoubtedly be a starter and maybe even the star
