Kendall Jenkins is set to declare for the NBA Draft
ESPN.com news services
Oregon’s third year sophomore Kendall Jenkins wasted no time in announcing that he’d be declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft during his press conference following Oregon’s huge upset loss against the 9th seeded Wisconsin Badgers.
He’s currently projected to go late-first but ESPN’s NBA Insider Chad Ford ranks him at just No. 39 among draft prospects.
“It’s been a long journey, many ups and downs and yeah I’m upset that it had to end this way. I’ve been looking into the NBA ever since high school and I know some scouts still think of me as an incomplete prospect or whatever but I just believe in myself and I’m not going to let them debate my future,” Jenkins told reporters. “I know what I’m capable of and I know I’ll be a factor for most NBA squads, with that being said, I’m declaring for the NBA Draft.”
The 6-foot-8, 210 pound forward was only a two star recruit coming out of Mojave High School in North Las Vegas before committing to the Northern Colorado Bears where he quickly made a name for himself after averaging 18.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game which carried him as far as honors on the national freshman All-American team. He’d carry this team to a victory at the conference championship and an overall 16-14 record which ended in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament against the 2nd seeded Oklahoma Sooners.
From there Jenkins would load up on awards within the conference including player of the year, freshman of the year, and of course first team all-conference – the first time a freshman has done such in the Big Sky. That’s when the mid-major product would decide to enter the transfer market, which is when he landed on the Oregon Ducks roster.
After serving his year out of the game, Kendall would come out and turn in 14.1 points (2nd on team), 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals to solidify his prospect card with the Ducks who went 29-4 after being one of the last undefeated teams in men’s college basketball.
“Plenty of scouts are sleeping on him. He’s a hard worker and loves to be on the floor, I’m almost for sure he’ll turn out to be an exceptional pro,” Oregon’s Dana Atlman said of Jenkins.
Jenkins has yet to sign an agent and he’ll join teammates Jaquan Lyle and Ahmad Rorie in the upcoming NBA Draft this summer.Last edited by beast10; 09-21-2016, 09:04 PM.Comment
