2013 OSU MEDIA REPORT
TEAM PREVIEW
Coach Deuce will lead a OSU roster of just 8 scholarship players as he announces his 10-man roster/rotation.
FR 3* PG recruit Tom Reid was released from his scholarship after the signing of 5* AA Ridley Spears leaving Coach Deuce 3 scholarships to use this season well opening up 8 for the 2014 season.
Coach Deuce"This year will be tough, we have a lack of size and with Spears we feel we have our floor general for the next 4 years, so we thought it was best to give Reid a chance to play elsewhere"
PG-5'11 FR R. Spears (77 Ovr,73 3pt,89 Defense)
"The 5* AA Mr BB will get a chance to see if he truly can be "The Glove 2.0"
SG-6'5 SR K. Ingerson (80 Ovr,74 3pt)
"Started 31/31 games last season averaging 8.4 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 3.9 APG, well shooting 38% from 3pt."
SF-6'5 SO C. Gillingham (75 Ovr,79 Mid,66 3pt)
"Started 9 of 29 games played last year, averaging 8.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 2.4 APG"
PF-6'9 SR R. Sandoval (77 Ovr,90 Close,75 Mid,75 3pt)
"A 2 year starter 62/62 games, he has a career average of 7.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.3 BPG and is a 35% 3pt shooter"
C-6'8 JR F. Sowers (72 Ovr,85 Close,76 Mid,66 3pt)
"Limited action as a reserve the past 2 seasons with a career average of 1.8 PPG, 1.1 RPG"
Here is a look at the 2nd Unit
PG-6'3 JR T. Hampton (69 Ovr/71 3pt)
"Played in 24 games last season after playing in 12 as a freshman. Averaged 2.8 PPG last year hitting 8/24 3pt"
SG-6'5 (Walkon) FR A. Whittington (56 Ovr/70 3pt)
"Was a 2* Recruit, rated #613 Overall and #124 SG"
SF-6'8 SO D. Garner (69 Ovr/72 3pt)
"Played in all 31 games last year logging 161 minutes averaging 1.9 PPG"
PF-6'7 (Walkon) FR S. Chavez (68 Ovr,90 Close)
"Was a 2* Recruit rated #558 Overall and #129 PF"
PF-6'8 FR E. Atkins (66 Ovr,84 Close,72 Mid)
"Only other recruit kept by Coach Deuce from the previously signed players, he was rated #544 Overall and the #126 PF"
Coach Deuce"Obviously this team is not nearly as talented as the one I left and winning 20 games is going to be a major challenge, but what this team does have is some players who have the ability to stretch the court and knock down some shots from the outside, and anytime you can do that, you have the chance to beat some teams you were not picked to beat"BEAVERS PICKED TO FINISH LAST IN PAC-10
0SU (81 Overall) is once again picked to finish last in the Pac-10, with defending champs USC (93) picked once again to take home the Title. The Trojans will start the year ranked #9 in the Media Poll and are joined by Stanford (90) at #22.
Between the Top-2 schools and OSU at the bottom are 7 teams who could finish anywhere. Washington (90), Washington State (89), Arizona (89), Cal (89), UCLA (89) all have the potential to make a Top-25 appearance at some point in the season and don't count out Oregon (87) and Arizona State (86) as both teams have been Top-5 seeds in the NCAA in the past 2 seasons.
OSU FAVORED IN JUST 4 GAMES THIS SEASON
Besides playing a brutal Pac-10 schedule, the Oregon State Beavers will play 10 non-conference games this year with 4 of them on the road and 6 at home. However OSU is only favored to win 4 of those games, leaving some to wonder if Coach Deuce will even win 10 games in Year 1 of his 2 year contract.
The Beavers open the year against Boise State (79) at home before traveling to Spokane to face Gonzaga (86).. OSU will then return home for 4 straight games vs Utah State (85), Utah (84), Portland (81), and Portland State (67)
OSU then plays 3 of their next 4 on the road including Top-25 matchup's with #16 UNLV (89), #24 San Diego State (87) was well as Nevada (77) with the other home game vs Coach Deuce's former team Northern Colorado (84)
Coach Deuce"Obviously our schedule is very difficult this season and if you didn't notice is very west coast heavy with all of our opponents coming from the Big Sky,WAC,WCC and M.W. Conferences. I feel like because we are in a rebuilding stage, I want to give potential west coast recruits a chance to see us live or on T.V. as much as possible. When we become a Top-25 program, then I am sure we will venture out and start playing east coast teams"Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Thanks. I actually live in Oregon now and well my heart will always lie with Boise State, I much prefer OSU over the Ducks. I love the Pac-10 and have always enjoyed all my past legacies at WSU, Cal, and UCLA. Hopefully I can turn this program around and build something. Landing Spears is a good start but he is going to need some help scoring. Hopefully I can find a few 3* gems and continue to find the 4* and 5* guy's who nobody else seems to wantComment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
OSU STARTS OUT 3-0!!
Welcome to Talkin Beavers. A weekly show in which we showcase Oregon State Basketball. The Coach Deuce Era is off to a strong start as Oregon State shocks all of us with a amazing 3-0 start.
OSU opened the year at home vs Boise State with a (84-70) victory over the Broncos, led by SR SG K. Ingerson's team high 19 pts on 3/6 shooting from dowtown.
Ingerson wasn't the only Beaver to have a solid game as he was joined in double digits by 3 more of his fellow starters. SF C. Gillingham had a double double with 11 pts and 13 rebs, PF R. Sandoval added 14 pts and 8 b rebs well Center F. Sowers making his first career start added 14 pt 5 reb and 2 blks.
Another big story was that of 5* AA PG R. Spears. Spears just missed out on posting a triple double as he finished the game with 8 pts 9 reb and 10 assists.
In Game 2, OSU went on the road and overcame a 1st half deficit (45-41) to defeat the Gonzaga Bulldogs (75-64), holding the Zag's to just 19 2nd half points.
OSU was led once again by their SR duo of Sandoval (20 pts 5 reb) and Ingerson (18 pts 4/7 3pt) well FR R. Spears had another solid night with 15 pts (3/7 3pt) and 7 assists.
In Game 3, Oregon State returned home to start a 4 game homestand hosting Utah State.
Once again the Beavers trailed at the half (47-40), but in the 2nd half PF R. Sandoval caught fire from the outside hitting 3/4 from 3pt as he finished with a career/season high 30 pts in the (80-77) victory..
K. Ingerson added 13 pts on 2/4 3pt well FR S. Chavez came off the bench to score a career high 10 pts.
Through the first 3 games of the year, SR Rickey Sandoval is currently averaging 21.3 PPG, well felllow SR K. Ingerson is averaging 16.7 PPG. Ingerson has hit 9/17 from 3pt (.529%).
UP NEXT OSU WILL HOST (6-1) UTAH ON WED BEFORE HOSTING (4-1) PORTLAND ON SUNDAY.Comment

Congrats on the Oregon State job, pulling a 5* recruit in Spears, and the 3-0 start. I always root for Oregon State and Washington State in the Pac-12 as they are pretty much the underdogs of the conference.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
As far as playing the game, I would be happy to run with any team from the Pac-10/12 except UW and Oregon just because they are WSU and OSU's biggest rivals, thus I just don't really like them. I have done past legacies with Cal, UCLA and WSU, but still have never made it to either of the Arizona schools. I also would be okay turning USC into a national basketball power if the chance came open.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Well for me I grew up around Boise, so BSU has my heart and soul, but I lived 30 minutes south of Pullman for 3 years and had season tickets for both WSU basketball and football, so WSU has always been my #1 favorite Pac-10/12 team. I was even accepted to WSU out of high school but didn't have the money to go there. I then lived in Spokane for 5 years so became a big Gonzaga basketball fan, but still made the drive down to Pullman for a few football games. Now I live in Oregon where my wife's family is and they are all OSU fans.

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS STAY PERFECT!!!
Oregon State improved to 5-0 this week with win's over Utah and Portland. The Beavers are now 4-0 at Gill Coliseum this season and with the victories Coach Deuce has now won 21 straight games coaching his team at home.
On Wednesday, Oregon State led (46-40) at the half vs Utah, but the Utes tied the game on a bucket with 4 seconds to play (70-70). In the O.T. period it was clear both teams were running on fumes. Each team turned the ball over twice in O.T. before the first basket was made, but in the end it was OSU only 3/17 from beyond the arc leading up to Ingerson's shot that would come out with the victory.
Ingerson lead all scorer's with 20 pt (2/6 3pt) well both Sandoval (13 pts 11 reb 3 blks) and Sowers (14 pts 11 reb 4 blks) added double-doubles.
FR E. Atkins added a season/career high 14 pts off the bench.
FINAL SCORE OSU-79 UTAH-78
On Friday night, the Beavers used a total team effort to defeat the Portland Pilots (76-57).
With 4 of the 5 starters having logged over 30 minutes in the win over the Utes including Sandoval's 38 minutes, Coach Deuce used his bench most of the final 6 minutes of the game which led to 31 points of production from the 2nd unit.
Backup PG T. Hampton had a season/career high 13 pts to match F. Sowers for the team high hitting both 3pt attempts he took as he took home POG honors.
C. Gillingham (9 pts 9 reb), R. Sandoval (9 pts 5 reb 2 blks), and R. Spears (7 pts 5 reb 6 assits), K. Ingerson (7 pts 3 reb 5 assist 4 stls), S. Chavez (7 pts) are some other highlighted stats.
With the pair of win's OSU is now 5-0 on the season and will finish their 4 game homestand next week vs (2-6) Portland State
Because there is only 1 game next week, we will have a special guest in the studio as Coach Ryne "The Deuce" Dezaron joins us to talk about recruiting in the Pac-10 this season.Comment

SIT DOWN WITH COACH DEUCE
Good Evening and welcome to Talkin Beavers, a weekly recap show that highlights the Oregon State Basketball team. We are excited to announce we are now sponsored by Wilson Motors and even more excited that tonight in studio joining us is Coach Ryne "The Deuce Dezaron" the Beavers new 1st year Head Coach.
Host-Coach first let me say's congrats on the amazing start. You guy's have now won 6 straight with your victory over Portland State last night (84-56)
Deuce-Thanks, I have to be completely honest when I took the job I figured we would have some growing pains, especially with our roster this season, so for us to be in the position we are in is pretty amazing even to me.
Host-Yeah I think we were all thinking that when we saw that with a 10 man roster you had 2 Walkons and 2 more Freshman. Speaking of Freshman, what's up with 5* AA Ridley Spears? He had a great 1st game almost posting a triple-double but since then he has almost disappeared from the box scores.
Deuce-You know I think when most people hear 5* AA, they automatically think the kid should come in and score 20 points a night, but the thing is that's not Ridley's game. Yeah he is only currently averaging 6.2 PPG through the first 6 games but you have to also realize he is leading the team in assists (5.3 APG) and for a 5'11 PG is doing a great job on the boards (4.8 RPG). What I also like is he can and will score when he needs to and if we need a big shot from beyond the arc, I believe we can count on him (8/18 44%).
Host-So Coach we are half way through December and with that, it means in-season recruiting has come and gone. So far it looks like you have yet to secure any commitments. Can you tell us about some of the players you maybe missed out on and also share with us about some of the guy's we might see in a OSU Beaver uniform next season?
Deuce- Well let's face it, it's pretty tough coming off a 8-23 season and last place finish in the Pac-10 and expect to get a bunch of 5* AA's to want to come to Corvallis but that didn't stop us from trying.
We had 3 scholarships to offer to start the year and we offered all 3 to 5* AA's Mr BB's and came away 0-3.
First we wanted to try and keep the best of the northwest and for us that meant 6'5 SG Sidney Harris (Mr BB Oregon, #17 Overall/#4 SG), 6'8 PF Clifford Emerson (Mr BB Idaho, #15 Overall/#2 PF) and 6'7 SG Earl Battles (Mr BB Utah, #16 Overall/#5 SG)
I am sad to say Battles choose to stay instate and play for BYU, well Emerson and Harris both picked rival Pac-10 programs. Emerson will be in Pullman next season playing for WSU well Harris will be in Seattle playing for UW.
Host-Wow that has to really sting. Those guy's would've filled some huge needs for the program and could've been the type of guy's to really turn things around quickly. However you have proven in your 5 years at UNC and with your recruitment of Spears that you are pretty good and finding guy's others teams maybe look past. Can you tell us about anyone who might fit that description this year?
Deuce-I can.. I am excited to announce that we have indeed offered all 3 scholarships and are very excited about the possibilities of next season. Obviously going into this season our team is very small and to top it off we lose the tallest guy on our team R. Sandoval our starting PF.. We currently have 2 offers out to bigmen who we fill can come in and start Game 1 for us next season.
6'11 PF Klayton Synder is from San Diego CA and is Rated #70 Overall and the #3 PF by 2k Sports Scout Inc.
Well his ABL #'s don't jump off the charts (8.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 1.0 BPG) we believe he could be a very talented #4 for us especially if we can pair him up with this guy.
7'0 C Wallace Ray. Ray is from Mission Viejo CA and is Rated #122 Overall but the #5 C in the class.
This kid can play at both ends of the court averaging 12.4 PPG, 6.4 RPG and 2.5!! BPG this year in the ABL.
Our last scholarship is currently being offered to someone who was never really on our radar until we found out he had no scholarship offers. Missing out on Battles and Harris really opened up our need for a player we fill can play the #2/#3 spot in our rotation and we fill we found that in this guy.
6'9 SF Robbie Conroy. Conroy is from Indianapolis IN and is Rated #27 Overall and the #2 SF in the nation.
Conroy averaged 11.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.3 SPG, and shot 48% from 3pt this past summer in the ABL.
Host-Coach can you tell us where you currently rank on these kid's radar and how close you are to signing them?
Deuce-Currently we are #2 on Synder's list behind USC at 81%, we are currently #1 on Ray's list at 99% with UNLV, Utah and UCLA still in his Top-4. Obviously we joined the process late on Conroy but we are already at 53% and have worked our way to #6 on his list, behind Notre Dame, DePaul, and Indiana. He has stated his #1 goal is good coaching, so hopefully my resume speaks loud enough to convince him to leave home.
Host-Coach you guy's have UNLV on Sunday next week, your only game. The Rebels were a Pre-Season Top-25 team, and a #1 seed in last year's tourney having won 30 straight plus games. How are they looking this year?
Deuce-Well they fell out of the Top-25, with a 6-3 start with a loss on the road to Pitt as well as home loss's to both Texas A&M and Montana. However their roster is loaded with 4 Senior starters, (PG-86,SG-80,SF-85,PF-84) plus a very talented FR Center (Tim Blue-77) so I expect them to still be our toughest game yet.
Host-Coach after UNLV on the road you also play (4-2) Nevada before returning home to face your former team Northern Colorado. Can you tell us how UNC is doing so far this season?
Deuce-The Bears are off to a great start under Coach Wright (former Murray State HC). Just like last year they started out the year with a loss to the #1 team in the country (Kansas 81-70) but have since won 5 straight including wins over San Diego, San Francisco and Arizona State (70-51). Nate Forte is really doing a great job leading the team (19.5 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.0 BPG) and both Sylia (12.0 PPG) and Brady (11.8 PPG) are shooting lights out from downtown (45% and 44%). They are going to be a tough matchup but I look forward to the challenge.
Host-Well folks there you have it, a look at recruiting and a look at the upcoming schedule. Please stay tune to see just how long Coach Deuce can keep this Beaver win streak alive..Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
UNLV ENDS WIN STREAK!
The Oregon State Beavers 6 game win streak ended on Sunday night in Las Vegas as the Beavers fell (91-77) to the Running Rebels. OSU trailed by just 7 at the half (49-42) but UNLV came out with a fullcourt press in the 2nd half that resulted in 6 turnovers, in which UNLV extended their lead converting on 4 of the 6 trips down the court.
UNLV was led in scoring by SR PF R. Mathis 27 pts. He also added 9 rebounds. Backup JR PF B. Farley came off the bench with a double double of 10 pts and 12 rebs.
4 players scored in double digits in the loss. R. Sandoval led OSU with 14 pts 8 reb and 4 blks well F. Sowers had 11 pts and 6 rebs. SO SF C. Gillingham added 10 pts well FR PG R. Spears had 10 pts 5 assist and had a team/season high 5 steals.
Spears also finished the day 3/4 from 3pt.
Next up OSU will finish a 2-game trip to Nevada, with a game vs the Wolfpack of Nevada. Typically a top team in the WAC, Nevada is off to a 6-2 start this season including 3 straight wins at home.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
FORMER TEAM SHOWS NO LOVE FOR THEIR FORMER COACH
After a (74-70) win over Nevada on Wednesday, the Beavers returned home to Corvallis to face Coach Deuce's former team the Northern Colorado Bears.
Against the Wolfpack, FR PG R. Spears had a career game finishing with a season high 20 pts on 4/5 3pt, Spears also added a team high 7 rebs and team high 6 assist.
However against UNC, Spears never got his game going picking up 2 early fouls and the Bears took advantage of it as SR PG T. Sylia scores a team high 9 pts in the 1st half to lead UNC to a 20 point lead at the half (42-22).
The 2nd half wasn't much better for the Beavers, as Northern Colorado continued to pour it on, using a 12 man rotation the Bears never looked tired, well OSU trying to use just 8 players looked wore out. Finally trailing by 25 with less then 2 minutes to play Coach Deuce waved the white flag and put in the reserve unit for more minutes. FINAL SCORE UNC-89 OSU-60
T. Sylia was named POG as he finished with a team high 17 pts (2/2 3pt). UNC also got double digits from RS FR R. McCleod (13 pts) and FR I. Dearman (10 pts).
For OSU, Walkon FR PF S. Chavez and SR PF R. Sandoval each finished with 14 pts, well SR C F. Sowers added 12 pts and 8 reb.
Spears finished with just 2 pts and 2 assists going 0/3 from 3pt. SR SG K. Ingerson also had a off night going 0/4 from downtown and finishing with just 2 pts
Coach Deuce"It's always tough when you face your former team and even tougher when 100% of it is made up of your former players. I know alot of those guy's believe they are overall more talented then last year's team and that they have a legit shot at making another strong run in the tourney. I realize they are disappointed I am not there and I do wish them the best"
SDSU is coming off a (79-76) win over (8-3) Texas A&M after suffering their only loss of the season @ Hawaii (93-77).Comment

Sandoval finished with a team high 10 rebs.
