Thanks for checking in. Funny thing about USC is if I make the Pac-10 finals it will probably be a rematch vs them and right not the selection committee has me playing them in Round 2, so either way I still might get that attribute point after all.

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Good luck against Cal. If you get past them you might be able to improve your Tourney Resume if you can also beat Stanford. At least you're not sitting on the bubble watch. Even with an early exit in the PAC-10 tournament you should still get into the big danceComment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS SENT PACKING!!
Oregon State's Pac-10 tournament life was ended quickly as the Beavers fall to Cal in the Quarter Final Round. Trailing (46-45) at the half OSU gave a valiant effort but in the end, JR PG H. Wyatt was just to much. The former All-American and only non-senior starter led the Bears with 27 pts as the Golden Bears move on as they look to improve their NCAA seeding.
W. Ray and F. Sowers each scored 15 pts in the loss.
FINAL SCORE CAL-89 OSU-82
Oregon State will now be at the mercy of the Selection Committee who prior to the loss had OSU as a #8 seed in the East.
TROJANS ADD PAC-10 TOURNEY CROWN!!
After defeating Oregon State, Cal went on to make quick work of Stanford in the Semi Finals beating the Cardinals (82-65), but came up short against the Trojans in the Finals. (72-63).Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
SELECTION SUNDAY!!
Good evening and welcome to Selection Sunday. I am your host Greg Gumbel (GG) and joining me tonight in studio is Clark Kellog (CK), Seth Davis (SD) and Doug Gottleib (DG)
Tonight we get started with the naming of the #1's. It's no shock to see the USC Trojans as the #1 seed in the East. The Trojans finished the season #1 in both polls after winning both the regular season and Pac-10 championship with a (31-4) record.
Joining them as #1's are Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Maryland.
GG-What's your guy's opinion on this year's #1's?
CK-For me naming the Terps a #1 was a no brainer after they won the ACC tournament.
SD-Yeah once Texas lost in the Quarter Finals of the Big 12 tournament you figured it opened the door for someonte to come in and grab that #1 seed.
DG-I agree with you Seth and Maryland was the right choice. Despite Indiana winning both the regular season and Big 10 tourney, their #16 RPI vs the Terps #3 was a no-brainer for the committee.
GG- Well now that we know who are the #1's. Let's take a look at each regional starting in the East where the Trojans will await the play in game winner of Eastern Illinois and Georgia Southern.
EAST
#1 USC vs #16 (EIU vs GSU)
#8 Xaiver vs #9 Oregon State
#5 Wisconsin vs #12 South Alabama
#4 Nevada vs #13 Delaware State
#6 UNC vs #11 Eastern Michigan
#3 Clemson vs #14 Monmouth
#7 Ole Miss vs #10 Providence
#2 Providence vs #15 Drexel
GG-What's your take on this regional guy's.
CK-The committee loves to see rivalry matchup's and it shows with potential 2nd round matchup's of USC vs OSU and UNC vs Clemson.
SD-Yeah I am sure Coach Deuce was not happy when he saw the committee follow through with the earlier seeding of the Beavers vs the Trojans. I am sure Coach is still feeling the O.T. loss from earlier in the year.
DG-For me it's all about #4 Nevada. The Wolfpack fell in the WAC semi-finals which opened the door for 2 teams from the WAC to make the field, but I really feel like they have a chance to make some noise. If I am USC or OSU I wouldn't want to face them in the Sweet 16.
GG- Okay guy's well let's move from East to West and take a look at who is joining #1 Vanderbilt.
WEST REGIONAL
#1 Vanderbilt vs #16 North Florida
#8 Boston College vs #9 NC State
#5 Oklahoma State vs #12 Niagara
#4 UConn vs #13 La Tech
#6 Florida vs #11 Portland
#3 Kansas State vs #14 Houston
#7 Texas A&M vs #10 Missouri State
#2 Indiana vs #15 Coastal Carolina
GG-What's your take guy's on what looks to be another exciting bracket.
CK-#8 BC vs #9 NC State. The Eagles swept the Wolfpack in the regular season and just missed winning the ACC tourney. I really like their chances at a upset in Round 2.
SD-#6 Florida. We havn't seen the Gators in Field of 64 for the past 3 seasons, so I know they are excited to be here, but Portland is for real winning both the regular and WCC tourney titles going 24-9. If they over look the Pilots they could be going home early.
DG-I really like Indiana. I think the Hoosiers have what it take to make a Final 4 run.
GG-Okay guy's that's 32 down let's take a look in the South where Maryland landed as the #1.
SOUTH REGIONAL
#1 Maryland vs #16 Alabama State
#8 Illinois vs #9 Akron
#5 Notre Dame vs #12 Alabama
#4 Mississippi State vs #13 American
#6 Tennessee vs #11 UNLV
#3 Louisville vs #14 Columbia
#7 Cincinnati vs #10 Michigan State
#2 Duke vs #15 Stoney Brook
GG-Okay guy's what's your thought's here.
CK-Again I am looking at a possible Elite 8 matchup of Maryland vs Duke, you got to hand it to the committee they love heated rivalries.
SD-For me it's #6 Tennessee vs #1 UNLV. The Vol's have won 2 titles in the past 6 seasons and it wouldn't surprise me to see them go far.
DG- How about Michigan State. The Spartans are use to having a #2 or #3 seed, but a 4th place finish in the Big Ten left them as a last 4 in. Question is can they make the most of the underdog role.
GG-Okay guy's well here it is our final 16 teams.
MIDWEST REGIONAL
#1 W. Virginia vs #16 Wright State
#8 Florida State vs #9 Kentucky
#5 Iowa State vs #12 N. Colorado
#4 Georgetown vs #13 S. Utah
#6 Stanford vs #11 Nebraska
#3 Seton Hall vs #14 CS Northridge
#7 Cal vs #10 Miami FL
#2 Texas vs #15 Nicholls State
GG-What's your take here guy's?
CK-The Round 2 matchup of #1 WVU vs #9 Kentucky. You know Coach Frizzell isn't going to be happy with the selection committee for that one.
SD-#12 Northern Colorado. This marks the 6th straight year the Bears are in the tourney. Rumors are Coach Wright could be on the move at the end of the year though following in the footsteps of Coach Deuce who went on to a bigger challenge.
DG-For me I am curious to see how Texas responds after not having played in a week. Cal is coming off a tough loss to USC in that Pac-10 title game and with their veteran roster I could see them playing upset in Round 2.
GG-Okay guy's well now that we know who is in, let's take a look at who didn't make it as we look at the NIT.
Oregon vs Alabama A&M
Northwestern vs Marist
Mercer vs Butler
Boston U vs UL Lafayette
Charlotte vs TXAM-CC
South Carolina vs Southern Miss
Kent State vs Wofford
UNC Ashville vs Villanova
Oklahoma vs CSU Bakersfield
UALR vs Syracuse
Townson vs Hawaii
Murray State vs Washington
Colorado vs UC Irvine
Auburn vs BYU
Montana vs Kansas
Lehigh vs UCLA
GG-Okay guy's what do you think?
CK-For me it has to be the 3 Pac-10 teams. I wouldn't be shocked to see all 3 make the Final 4.
SD-Kansas isn't use to this. For me making the Field of 64 is almost a automatic. I am sure there are some people in Lawrenece right now thinking it could be time to make a change.
DG- For me it's school's like Butler (24-5 regular season Horizon Champs), Marist (24-9, regular season Metro Champs), Wofford (25-6, regular season Southern Champs), UL Lafayette (22-7, regular season Sun Belt champs), Mercer (22-7, regular season A-Sun Champs), Montana (21-10, regular season Big Sky champs) and Towson (24-8, regular season Colonial Champs). Those are guy's worked hard all season only to have their NCAA dreams squashed in the conference tourney's
GG-Well there you have it, your Field of 64 and the teams wishing they had a chance to go back in time and take care of business. Now that question is who will be there cutting down the nets when it's all over.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
Ouch! That potential second round matchup is gonna hurt. I'm sure the early exit from the PAC-10 tournament didn't help with the selection. Good luck with the tournament. You have your work cut out for you if you want to make the Sweet Sixteen. I'm interested to see how Nevada does since they finished in the top 25Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS GET THEIR REVENGE!!
Coach Deuce and the Oregon State Beavers have done it. With the Overtime loss to #1 USC still fresh in their minds, OSU exacted their revenge against the Trojans in the Round of 32, defeating #1 seed USC.
FINAL SCORE OSU-79 USC-76
Trailing (41-37), Oregon State would battle back and with less then a minute left in the game convert a 3PT play that would give them a 5 point lead with 22 seconds to play. USC would trim the lead to just 3, with 4.8 seconds to play but somehow were unable to secure the foul on the inbound leaving the Beavers the chance to run out the clock.
Coach Deuce"I told the guy's to be ready, I knew that if they scored they would most likely foul if they didn't manage to steal the inbound, but the trap came late and Sowers did a great job of dribbling out of it
For OSU, 5 players scored in double digits including 4 of the 5 starters. (Spears-11 pts 4 ast, Taft-14 pts, Sowers-11 pts 4 reb, Ray 13 pts 6 reb 4 blks) well Chavez added 12 pts off the bench.
For USC it was sad ending for JR PG B. Zeigler, who will most likely go pro as a projected Top-10 pick. The 5* AA finished with a game high 29 pts hitting a amazing 7 of 17 from downtown. Zeigler finished the season averaging 17.8 PPG.
Former #1 Overall FR SG D. Turek exploded for 24 pts on 4/7 3pt in the Trojans opening round win over #16 EIU (96-49), but managed just 9 points in the loss to OSU however with both Zeigler and SR SG S. Bragg (lottery pick) leaving, expect Turek to join the starting rotation and be a major player next season for USC.
BADGERS ADVANCE TO MEET OSU IN SWEET 16!!
#5 Wisconsin ended #4 Nevada's dreams of Sweet 16 with a 70-67 victory in the Round of 32, defeating the Wolfpack in O.T.!!!
#3 Clemson defeated #6 UNC in a ACC showdown (82-53) and will face #2 Providence on the other side of the Sweet 16 Bracket with the winner advancing to face either the Beavers or Badgers.
UPSET CITY!!!
In the Opening Round, We saw 3 #11 seeds defeat #6's to move on.
Portland knocked off Florida with a buzzer beater (71-70), UNLV defeated Tennessee (94-89) and Nebraska sent Stanford packing with a (80-72) victory.
Then joining OSU with their defeat of #1 USC, we see #8 Illinois knock off #1 Maryland (84-75) to advance as they will take on #4 Miss State in the Sweet 16.
#11 UNLV continued to excel in their underdog role. A #1 seed and the #1 team in the country just 2 years ago, the Rebels move on to the Sweet 16 with a (80-73) win over #3 Louisville. Waiting for them will be #2 Duke who defeated #7 Cincinnati (93-73).
Another huge shock was #7 Cal defeating #2 Texas (95-77) in the Round of 32 as they advance to the Sweet 16 with a matchup vs #3 Seton Hall. The winner will face the winner of #1 West Virginia vs #4 Georgetown in a Big East showdown.
Out West, #3 Kansas State ends Portland's dance before midnight, as the Wildcats advance to face #2 Indiana.
Waiting for them will be the winner of #1 Vanderbilt vs #5 Oklahoma State.
The Commadores survived a buzzer beater against #8 Boston College (87-84) well the Cowboy's knocked off #4 UConn (106-82)Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS OFFENSE HIGH OCTANE!!
Riding their emotional win over #1 USC (attribute earned baby!!!), OSU defeated #5 Wisconsin in a Sweet victory just missing the century mark in a (99-97) win.
Leading (53-52) at the half in a game that featured zero defense, OSU somehow managed to withstand the Badgers 15/29 3pt shooting to advance to the Elite 8 where they will face #2 Providence.
Coach Deuce"I can't say I am happy with how we played. Allowing a team to shoot better then 50% from 3pt is typically going to be a loss every time, but the guy's never gave up and showed they know how to put the ball in the hoop."
AA PG R. Spears didn't score much (5 pts) but did manage a career best 14 assists. SG E. Taft hit 3/4 from downtown to finish with 17 pts, SF C. Gilligham added 13 pts and Freshman W. Ray added 19 pts and rejected 2.
CAL MOVES ON!!
The Golden Bears were once a Top-10 team this season and showed why as they knocked off #3 Seton Hall (86-62) to advance to a Elite 8 showdown vs #1 West Virginia who defeated #4 Georgetown (97-77).
DUKE ENDS THE REBELLION!!!
#2 Duke puts a end to #11 UNLV's run in the tourney with a (84-79) win. The Blue Devils will move on to face #4 Miss State who defeated #8 Illinois (84-55) in a snooze fest.
COWBOYS KNOCK OFF #1 VANDY!!!
After scoring 95 points in their opening round win over #12 Niagara, OSU put up 106 in their win over UConn. Sticking with a gameplan that works for them, the Cowboys knock off #1 Vanderbilt (97-94).
Waiting for them will be #2 Indiana who defeated #3 Kansas State (75-69) in what should be a exciting Elite 8 matchup.Comment

Re: Following in the footsteps of a Legend (CH2k8)
BEAVERS DREAMS OF FINAL 4 ARE FRIED!!
When you continue to not defend the "3" when a team get's hot from beyond the arc, your run in the tourney will come to a end and that's what happened tonight.
FR SG K. Morales (5* AA Mr BB NY, #8 Overall/#3 SG) went off on the Beavers "D" hitting 6/7 from downtown to finish with a game high 27 points.
SR SF D. Christy added 21 pts and 9 reb hitting 3/5 and 6'7 Sophomore swingman I. Ricks add 11 pts off the bench hitting 3/3 from the arc.
Despite it trailing at the half (53-47), OSU however never gave up despite the Friars offensive firepower. However when Providence wasn't hitting shots from beyond the arc, they were nailing them at the F.T. line and that's where they sealed the victory making 9/9 in the final minute and half and 27/34 for the game.
In his final game of his college career, SR F. Sowers finished with a double double in the loss with 26 pts and 11 rebs.
SO SG E. Taft added 22 pts but was just 3/7 from 3pt, well G. Gillingham hit 3/4 from 3pt to add 13 points in the loss.
AA PG R. Spears was held to just 3 pts in the loss but did manage to dish out a team high 14 assists
FINAL SCORE PROVIDENCE-98 OREGON STATE-91
CAL REPRESENTS AS THEY MOVE ON TO FINAL 4!!
Well Oregon State's dream of a Final 4 ended, the Cal Bears did not. The Bears trailed #1 West Virginia (45-37) at the half but behind a 25 point (4/6 3pt)performance from SR PG S. Myers, led the Bears to the victory (83-77).
IT'S GOOD TO BE #2
With #1 WVU knocked out by #7 Cal and #2 Providence beating OSU the Final 4 was left to be made up of 3 #2 seeds.
#2 Indiana joins the Final 4 with a (75-73) win over #5 Oklahoma State, well #2 Duke crushed #4 Mississippi State (97-69).Comment
