February 23, 2008: VMI vs. Radford

VMI got revenge for Radford beating them by 31 in their previous meeting by beating the Highlanders 94-76 on Senior Night.

Radford held a 44-38 lead going into halftime, but was absolutely crushed in the 2nd half as VMI put up 56 points compared to their 32.

Radford was led by SF T.J. Gouard who scored 23 points on 7 of 13 shooting and 3 of 3 from behind the 3 point arc. He also pulled in 6 rebounds. SG Dave Torbert came off the bench and scored 9 points. Bench players SG Ryan Ariza and SF Reginald Holbrook both chipped in 7 points a piece in the tough loss.

VMI had 2 players get double doubles tonight. Senior SF Pedro Lettenberger had one of the best games you'll see all year in College Basketball. Lettenberger finished with 33 points on 14 of 18 shooting and 4 of 4 from behind the 3 point arc. Lettenberger also pulled in 10 rebounds for the double double. Freshman PF Antwi Temple came off the bench and got a double double by scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards. Junior SG Noudi Goodrich scored 18 points and Junior SF Ayinde Nixon chipped in 11 points.

February 27, 2008: Radford vs. High Point

Radford makes HUGE comeback in the 2nd half to tie the game, and then wins it in overtime 97-87.

Radford was led by SF T.J. Gouard finished with a game high 27 points and 7 rebounds. PG Fredrick Garnett notched a double double by scoring 11 points and dishing out 13 assists. Post starters PF Drake Conn and C James O'Hanon both scored 11 points. Backup SG's Dave Torbert and Ryan Ariza came off the bench and both chipped in 10 points.

High Point was led by Senior SF Howard Monroe who had a great all around game. He finished the game with 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Senior PG Ugonna Laudato scored 14 points and dished out 6 assists. Sophomore SG Hakeem Malone chipped in 11 points and Senior PF Cam Cowans chipped in another 10 points.

Radford made a late 2nd half comeback, but it wasn't enough as Liberty come out with the victory, 76-70.

Radford only had 2 players score in double figures tonight. PG Fredrick Garnett led the way as he scored a game high 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting. SG Aaron Dupre scored 11 points and grabbed 5 boards. SG Ryan Ariza came off the bench and scored 8 points in just 11 minutes of playing time.

Liberty was led by PF Pervis Slater who came off the bench and scored 14 points on 7 of 10 shooting in just 13 minutes of playing time. Junior PG Mitchell Winkfield also came off the bench and scored 9 points. Redshirt Sophomore PF Jeb Morris came fairly close to a double double as he scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

Charleston Southern moves on to the second round of the Big South Conference Tournament as they defeat Radford by a score of 85-67.

Radford was led by Junior SG Aaron Dupre who scored 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting and 4 of 5 from behind the 3 point arc. PG Fredrick Garnett chipped in 12 points and 3 assists. But, Garnett was only 4 of 17 shooting from the field in tonight's game.

Charleston Southern was led by Freshman SF Asrangue Calvert who scored a game high 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Freshman PG Erroyl Nuualitia finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. They were the only two Bulldogs who finished with over 10 points.

This was definitely a tough way for Radford to end their season. Although, they had a pretty good year overall. The 2006-2007 team went 8-22, while this 2007-2008 team went 13-15. So, this team had 5 more wins and 7 less losses than last years team. The Highlanders also knocked off the Michigan Wolverines in their first game of the season and also won their only 2 overtime games. They also played South Carolina tough till the end in their 48-40 loss in Columbia, SC.

If Coach Danny Carmichael can bring in a good recruiting class, with the returning players Radford has for next year, the Highlanders may be a legitimate Big South Title contender.
