Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Graham's Buzzer-Beater Gives Nets Second Straight Win
Jeff Graham celebrates with teammates after his game-winner in Detroit
DETROIT – After the rockiest start in NBA history, losing their first three games by an average of 40.6 points, the Brooklyn Nets have shown signs of life. The Nets picked up a victory over New Orleans earlier this week (both Anthony Davis and Hassan Whiteside were out for the Pelicans), and tonight they completed a big comeback in Detroit.
At halftime, the Pistons were in control, leading 60-48, but Brooklyn outscored them 54-40 in the second half to claim the win. Rookie Andrej Javorsek played a key role in the comeback, though he was limited by foul trouble, eventually fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. He finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in only 20 minutes of action.
The key to the comeback for Brooklyn was coach Bernard Keller's decision to attack Andre Drummond in the second half, forcing him into foul trouble and keeping him off the court. Drummond entered the final quarter with only three personal fouls, but fouled out with four minutes remaining. A lot of the credit for that goes to the player of the game, Jeff Graham (20 points, 14 rebounds), who was matched up with John Henson, not Drummond, as the clock ran down and he scored the game winner as time expired.
The Nets probably will not make the playoffs, or even have a winning record this year, but after being outscored by over 100 points in their first three games, a 2-3 record looks pretty good right now in Brooklyn.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Word Around Town: End of November
It's been an interesting season so far, with two coaches fired already, and Miami giving up on the Brook Lopez project after over three years. Only one team has separated itself, and it's not who many expect. Check out some quick thoughts and tidbits below...
- The Memphis Grizzlies sit atop the league with a 13-3 record early in the season. Memphis is a boring team, lead by the pick and roll attack of Rajon Rondo and Marc Gasol, but they are effective. New coach Stan Van Gundy has to be pleased so far.
- Speaking of coaches, two head guys have been let go early this season. Phoenix fired Kevin McHale and promoted assistant Logan Schmidt. After a 3-10 start, Phoenix is 3-0 under Schmidt. The 76ers let head coach Darvin Ham go and hired veteran Terry Stotts. He'll look to jump start a stagnant offense in Philly.
- The Miami Heat were able to get rid of Brook Lopez's contract and free up playing space for Alex Len. They sent Lopez to Portland for a first round pick in 2022.
- Los Angeles guard Ra'Shawn Michaels, the top overall pick in 2017, looks to be breaking out. He's averaging 25.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game so far for the 10-5 Lakers.Last edited by miz468; 06-16-2016, 03:52 PM.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Nice to Meet You: Andrej Javorsek
Andrej Javorsek has been a revelation for Brooklyn
BROOKLYN – Last night, as it looked like the Nets were ready to blow another fourth-quarter lead, something miraculous happened. Andrej Javorsek, the 20-year-old rookie dubbed "The Slovenian Sniper" by teammates, took control. It was the first time in what seems like a decade that this writer has seen an All-Star performance from a player in a Nets jersey. In just his 23rd career game, Javorsek had a statline that most veterans would be jealous of: 39 points on 15-31 shooting (2-5 from deep), 11 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and five blocks. In the end though, it wasn't the box score, but the individual plays that stood out. With under a minute left and down two points, Coach Keller called Javorsek's number. He caught the ball, beat Blake Griffin off the dribble, and threw a one-hand dunk down over Marcin Gortat to tie it at 99 apiece. On the next possession, Griffin caught the ball down low and went up for the win, but the young rookie blocked it as time expired, and the game went to overtime. Although the Nets let the game slip away in the extra period, it was clear that they found a gem in Andrej Javorsek.
So who does the Slovenian Sniper's game compare to? You'll hear names like Dirk Nowitzki, Andrea Bargnani, and Kristaps Porzingis thrown around, but Javorsek's identity extends further than "tall Euro guy who can shoot." When I see him play, I think of a young Rashard Lewis with the Seattle SuperSonics. Lewis possessed unique athleticism and playmaking ability for a big guy, and had a sweet spot-up jumper in the pock and pop game. I see similar characteristics with Javorsek.
Andrej Javorsek says he looked up to Kobe Bryant growing up, modeling his game and intensity after the Black Mamba. You can see that influence when he tries to take over a game. If the rookie has half the career of Kobe, Brooklyn has better times ahead.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Word Around Town: Free Agency/Trade Talk
LeBron James is likely entering the final free agency of his career
- Many people around the league expect this to be one of the biggest free agency periods in recent memory. What makes it unique is the combination of young and old. Some very good young players will be looking for max deals, while some of the best players of this past generation will be looking to end their careers right.
- Of course, the biggest name projected to go to free agency is LeBron James, who has cemented himself as one of the best players to ever play, but has never completed his goal of bringing a championship to his hometown of Cleveland. LeBron is 34 years old now, and if the Cavaliers fail to accomplish that goal again this year, will King James leave Cleveland again to chase one more ring?
- Word around the league lately is that Denver's Kiante' Oakman is unhappy with his role on the team. Oakman, 23, is playing his fourth season for the Nuggets, and he's been a shooting guard for them every year. The defensive master reportedly sees himself as more of a combo forward than a guard, and feels that playing guard has hindered his development. With his contract expiring after this season, and Carmelo Anthony and Blake Griffin holding down the forward spots in Denver, it is possible that we could see Oakman on the move before the trade deadline.
- Malachi Robinson of the Pelicans is another expiring contract we could be seeing on the move at the deadline. Ever since New Orleans acquired Hassan Whiteside last year, Robinson has been the odd man out in the post, and New Orleans is feeling pressure to win now, as AD's contract expires after next season.
- Another veteran who could be on the move this offseason is Chris Paul. Paul has spent nearly his entire career with the Clippers, but hasn't sniffed a title. A young roster like Detroit or Orlando could benefit from a floor general like Paul.
- Other key players expected to test free agency: Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka, Kevin Love, Jimmy Butler, Rudy Gobert.
- Key players expected to re-sign with their current team: Jimmy Butler, Bradley Beal, Demar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, Kyrie Irving, Marc Gasol, Dwyane Wade.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

BREAKING: Anthony Davis Tears Achilles, Out For Season
New Orleans will struggle without AD in the lineup
NEW ORLEANS – Pelicans coaches, players, and fans received heart-breaking news today, when they learned that star player Anthony Davis will miss the remainder of the season with a torn left achilles. To add salt to the wound for New Orleans, they traded their first-round pick for this season in the Hassan Whiteside trade with Brooklyn last year.
Davis, 26, was enjoying a career year, averaging 26.1 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 2.9 APG, and 3.2 BPG. Rumors earlier this month were that Malachi Robinson would be on the move before the deadline, but a Western Conference GM tells me that the Pelicans will start Robinson at the power forward for the remainder of the year.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Blockbuster Deal Finally Sends Durant Home to D.C.
Durant will be welcomed home with open arms... and Wallace Sapp
WASHINGTON DC – News broke minutes ago that sent a shockwave through the NBA. In what is probably the biggest trade since Kevin Garnett was sent to Boston to begin the "Big 3 Era" of NBA basketball, Kevin Durant was sent home to the Washington Wizards.
After rumors flew back in 2016 and 2017 that Durant would flee Seattle in free agency to head home, he shocked everyone by committing to the franchise that drafted him with a long-term deal, even after fellow star Russell Westbrook left for the west coast. Seattle has done a pretty good job of building a team back around Durant, but postseason disappointment after postseason disappointment takes its toll. With Durant's contract coming to an end after this season, many, including the Seattle front office, thought that he would explore his options in free agency after this series.
Seattle received a pretty good return for Durant, even though nothing can replace a scorer of that nature. The complete trade sent Durant and Justin Anderson to Washington for Bradley Beal, Pooh Lewis, this year's first and secound-round picks, and a first-round pick from 2023.
For Washington, this gives them potentially the most feared "big three" since LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade in Miami. Their starting lineup will be uber athletic, featuring John Wall, Durant, Wallace Sapp, and Willie Cauley-Stein (when he returns from injury in a week or so). Oh, and the odds-on favorite for the other starting spot is Evan Fournier, who leads the NBA in three-point shooting percentage. What else can I say? The rich get richer.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE

Re: It Was All a Dream: Rebuilding the 2019 Brooklyn Nets (A SimWorld Universe)
Word Around Town: All-Star Break
Wallace Sapp leads a new era of All-Stars
- First things first: All-Star festivities. Nyrie Staples took MVP honors by scoring 25 points in the Rookie Stars game and leading the Stars to victory. James Harden continued a career year by winning the Three-Point Contest. Prince Manderville represented Minnesota by winning the Slam Dunk Contest.
- The following players were selected to their first All-Star Game this year: Andrej Javorsek (BKN), Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN), Tavaris Leggett (BKN), D'Angelo Russell (LAL), Eman Rodriguez (NYK). Leggett was an injury replacement for Detroit guard Reggie Jackson.
- Kyrie Irving of the defending champion Bucks was named All-Star Game MVP, as the East took a nine-point victory.
- Rockets star James Harden is leading the MVP race, having a career year. He leads the league in scoring and is second in the league in assists. He's trailed closely behind by LeBron James and Wallace Sapp. Rounding out the current candidates for MVP are Russell Westbrook and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
- The Rookie of the Year race is pretty much a formality at this point. Names like Darius Broussard, Rashard Singleton, and Yefim Krychevsky MIGHT get some votes, but Brooklyn's Andrej Javorsek is the clear leader. He's the focal point of a young Nets team, allowing him to average 21.0 PPG so far this year. He's not just a scorer, though, averaging 8.1 RPG and 2.3 BPG.
- The Kevin Durant trade stole most of the headlines lately, but another trade was made with a promising forward. The Nuggets sent Kiante' Oakman to Philadelphia for CJ McCollum. Others were involved, but those were the key pieces.
- Brandon Jennings has revitalized his career in Charlotte this year. He's a favorite for sixth man of the year, averaging 14.3 PPG and 5.8 APG off the bench.
- The following players have extended their contract so far this season: Marc Gasol (MEM), JJ Redick (LAC), Jonas Valanciunas (TOR), Jabbar Wilson (IND), JaDamion Deveaux (DEN).
- Following the trade with Denver, Philadelphia waived veteran forward Jeff Green to open up playing time for its younger players. Seattle was quick to pick him up.
- Stan Van Gundy leaving Detroit for Memphis seems to have worked out for everyone. Memphis is atop the West at 35-20 and Detroit leads the East at 37-15.
- Some rising teams this year: The Los Angeles Lakers are 3rd in the West at 33-22 and the Orlando Magic are 3rd in the East at 34-19.
- Brooklyn Nets coach Bernard Keller is under fire for his team's performance lately. One insider tells me, "He was given a lot of leeway at the beginning of the year due to the youth on the team, but we've seen them regress throughout the year. Unless they turn things around, this could be Keller's first and only year in Brooklyn." The Nets have lost 15 straight and have the second-worst record in the league at 15-40.Last edited by miz468; 06-29-2016, 05:05 AM.NBA 2K17 SimWorld MyLEAGUE: So Much Drama in the DMV - A Baltimore Bullets Expansion MyLEAGUE
