Re: SimWorld NBA: The Chronicle
May 28th,2018
Tony Reali: So the NBA Finals move to Philly for Game to 3 for the first time since 2001. Last game we saw Philly just moments away from stealing a SECOND game in Houston before Ben Simmons had two costly turnovers in the final minute and a half. Tim [Cowlishaw], can the Sixers win without Simmons having a big game?
Tim Cowlishaw: I'ma have to say no they can't. Simmons finished with 6 assists, FIVE turnovers with with 2 of them coming in CRUCIAL moments at the end of the game & let's not fail to mention that he scored only 11 points on 9 shot attempts. (Tony gives him 4 points) The Sixers need him to be aggressive and apply pressure to a Rockets team that doesn't have enough size to contend with him AND Embiid when aggressive as we saw in Game 1.
Kevin Blackistone: First of all, no they do NOT need Ben Simmons to have a quote, unquote big game as that hasn't been Ben's play all season. What he does is a little bit of everything. In these playoffs, 17 ppg, 7 rpg, 8 apg and defending the best opposing players in spurts. Did he have a few monster games against Toronto, sure but who hasn't. (Tony gives him 5 points) The point is Simmons desont have to have a big game, Embiid does. His numbers have been unreal through these playoffs. Even better in these finals...
Tony: All right Kevin...
Kevin: and are the real story here...
Tony: Beating a dead horse alright Kev...
Kevin: 28.5 ppg, 16.5 rpg, 3 apg & 2.5 bpg in his first Finals appearance.
Tony: We already talked about that Kevin (deducts 6 from Kevin's total). Woody?
Woody Paige: Kevin with the stats. Well he's a stat for you. Ben Simmons average ppg is higher in losses than it is in wins. Why is that you might ask? Because his job is to facilitate. Much like Chris Paul on the other side, the Sixers do better when he is passing the ball than when he is scoring the ball. Everyone wants him to be Lebron and drop 60 points, that's simply not his game.
Tony: No one ever called him Lebron (deducts 10 points).
Woody: That's who he keeps getting compared to. Social Media was going crazy saying that he should've gotten the ball more in the 4th...
Tony mutes Woody: Plaschke?
Bill Plaschke: Woody does have a point for once none of this matters at all if the Sixers who were a prolific 3 point shooting team in their own right, can't hit a three in this series. They need to get up more threes to have a chance to beat Houston and that's not gonna happen with Ben Simmons on the floor. He can't make a jumper and TJ McConnell has looked better in this series because he's been locked in. 6 apg no turnovers & tough defense in 15 minutes a game. (Tony gives him 2 points)Last edited by ronyell; 05-28-2018, 12:57 PM.Comment

Reporter #1: Joel, you've dominated in this year's playoffs as well as in games 1 & 2 of this Finals series. What is it that the Rockets did tonight that helped to limit your touches?
Embiid: " I mean I don't think there was much. They sent a little guy at me to swipe at the ball but I just didn't get enough touches. Maybe I wasn't aggressive enough. I'll be more aggressive in Game 4 and they still won't be able to hold me.
Reporter #2: Joel, what part do you feel you need to play to help your Sixers team match the Rockets three-point production?
Embiid: Uhh I mean that's a question for coach. Like I said before... I could be more aggressive. Put pressure on the defense to double me but... who's matching the Rockets threes? You watched them all season?
Reporter #3: Ben do you think that you need to take more of a playmaking approach and what is Houston doing to limit your penetration?
Simmons: I do whatever my team needs me to do. Obviously, I like to create for my team but I do have to take advantage of my mismatches and that's what I've done all season. Against this team; they like to get you caught up playing a faster pace and we're trying to slow that down so I may not get as many open court opportunities which is why you see me on the low block more than earlier in these playoffs. As far as what they're "doing"... I mean they do switch a lot. They're playing waaaaay off of me and they have some tough defenders but we will be better in Game 4. Coach'll make some adjustments to the gameplan and we'll go from there.
Reporter #4: Ben you had 6 turnovers and only 5 asissts tonight and then there was what happened in Game 2. Is there an adjustment that you're having to make on this stage?
Simmons: What stage?
Reporter #4: The.. the stage of the NBA playoffs.
Simmons: Yeah it's the NBA Finals. No I've never been here before but I just gotta come out and play my game. Experience is a good teacher and I'm learning on the fly.

Reporter #1: James... 44 points, 12 assists... big shot after big shot. can you talk about how you felt coming into this game with it being your first Finals game on the road?
Harden: It felt good... I mean it's another game that we had to come out and win. NBAA Finals game, regular season game, home, on the road. The goal is to win and I just try to focus on that before each game you know. How can I help my team win.
Reporter #2: Chris, you've played for while now and you've played with some all-star caliber players. How does James' game compare to some of the other stars that you've played with.
CP3: *CP3 & Harden look at each other awkwardly and laugh* These questions about our feelings... haha. I mean.. he's a megastar in this league and I told him that from the day that I got here. He can dow whatever he wants to do on the offensive end. Threes, drive, playmake. How do you think he compares?
Reporter #3: Chris, you've gotten to take a bit of a step back with as well as James has played in the past few games even going back to last series. Do you feel ike in this system and playing alongside James that you can extend your career?
CP3: I guess so. I mean I did come here with that on my mind BUT my mind right now is solely on winning a championship. It's been a loooong time man. And we are playing a great young team. I don't care if I take 2 shots or 200. If I get 1 assist or 1000. I just wanna win and I think yall know that about me.
Reporter #4: This questions is for James. So much is made of you and Chris'contributions... can you talk about your teammates who had great contributions tonight?
Harden: Definitely. And they have great contributions every night. It may not always be in the box score but their out there getting dirty and doing whatever is needed. Tuck's out there scrapping. He hit big shots tonight. EG keeps us going offensively. Clint's one of the best bigs in the league. Gerald... Nene. I mean everyone on this team contributes and everyone knows their parts. We're a "team" first and that's what it's been all year.Last edited by ronyell; 05-29-2018, 02:07 PM.Comment

Brian Windhorst on Westbrook rumors: When trying to reach out to Paul George on the situation and get his comments, I was texted by his agent saying that George will not be commenting to me or anyone else. In my opinion and from covering the Thunder drama all season long, I'd have to imagine that there is some truth to the comments. There are times that Carmelo Anthony, coach Billy Donovon and others expressed frustration with their role playing alongside Westbrook which again would lead me to believe that this has been an ongoing theme throughout the year.
Stephen A. Smith on Harden's 44 point performance: As hard as I've been on James Harden over the years, turning the ball over in crucial playoff games... coming up lame year after year when it counts... looking absolutely LOST when his team needs him most! James Harden... put on a SHOW in game 4 is worthy of not ONLY the regular season MVP BUT the Finals MVP... deservedly. He has been steady all season long and HE, my friend looks like he's finally figured out how to take that next step into super stardom.
Marcellus Wiley and LZ Granderson on Game 3 of the NBA Finals:
* Marcellus - Why the hell is Joel Embiid who's averaging 24.8 points per game and damn near 15 rebounds a game, only getting 6 touches in the second half of a NBA FINALS game?! ESPECIALLY if Simmons is turning the ball over like Rex Grossman in a playoff game?
* LZ - How about the Rockets defense being the reason? How about D'Antoni's defensice scheme? Sending multiple guys swarming his direction. He scorched them in Game 1 & Game 2 and tough about the same number of shots. But I think the Rockets are just simply putting more bodies on him and that's throwing him off.
Chris Broussard reports: Dallas center Nerlens Noel has the organization concerned on if they should offer him a contract or not after recent comments in an interview saying "there are other things to life outside of basketball" and then later stating "Dallas has never felt like home". Noel who will be a free agent this summer was reportedly on the way to receiving a long-term deal with Dallas despite limited playing time this season.
Cari Champion on Dwayne Wade's 'Lebron' tweet: I can certainly believe it. Remember what happened last time D-Wade tweeted about Lebron just ahead of free agency. We looked up... and BAM Lebron was... taking his talents to South Beach. Personally I'm waiting on a text fro Magic letting me know that he's meeting with Lebron. But that's just my dream.
Alvin Gentry on retaining Cousins & Rondo: Our first agenda is to get Cous signed and then work with Rondo from there. What DeMarcus gave us before going down was huge. He gave us a LOT of flexibility defensively, not just offensively & Rajon was just phenomenal. His leadership. His judgement. Once these guys figured out playing together; before Marcus [DeMarcus] went down, we were a contending team in my opinion.Comment
