PG: Paz, 5'9", Junior: Started last year and averaged 9 points a game. Okay shooter from three. Not much defensively and undersized.

SG: Bowser, 6'2", Junior: 3 year starter, averaged 19 a game last year. Big time shooter that puts up 10+ a game. Good defender too.

SF: Luu, 6'3", Senior: Played 16 minutes a game last year and scored 5.6 a game. Another tremendous three point shooter and is a pretty good scorer overall. But, he's a horror show defensively.

PF: Chartier, 6'9", Senior: Started 5 games last year and played 16 minutes. Underwhelming, will shoot a three every once in a while.

C: Krall, 6'11'', Senior: 4 year starter. Not much for a 4 year starter. But, eh's developed as can be, and plays a little defense and grabs rebounds.

Bench: Chaisson is a very strong rebounding senior post. Galindo is an okay offensive guard that tries to play point guard. Munroe is a horrendous defender, but he can hit a jump shot. Krantz is a talented all offense post, struggles to defend, but won't play more than 5 minutes anyways.

Coach: Justin Jordan, 59 years old. 24-15 career record. 2nd season at Charleston.

Good offensive coach and scout, but that's all. Late start to a head coaching gig. Was at Auburn for a couple of years before his current station.

They've got two awesome shooting guards, and a whole lot of nothing besides them. We'll start in man and try to double Bowser and make other guys beat us. A pre-season tournament championship, no matter how small would be nice for a 1st season.

      1968-1969 Game 9 Results

At the 12:01 mark, we lead 19-17. Gordon has 2 quick fouls, but just came back into the game because we have zero guard depth. Gordon and Gentile each have 5 points, but it's Bowie with 6 who leads the team.

I call timeout with 6:49 left, and we're trailing 28-35. Charleston has gotten very hot and has 4 straight possessions with a basket, their little point guard Paz is raining threes down on us. Gentile leads us with 10 points.

Last media timeout is at 3:39 and we trail 39-42. Gentile is up to 16 points, and we've been fortunate that Bowser has been in foul trouble and hasn't effected the game too much yet.

CofC hits a shot at the buzzer, to get to an even 50 points, to make the half time score College of Charleston 50 - Hampton 46. Gentile's up to 19 points, 3 boards and 3 assists. Going to need the defense to shore up quite a bit, as I can't expect another half like that for us offensively.

An ugly, foul-filled stretch of basketball has us at 11:31 left, and we're down 56-61. Right when we get on the verge of tying or taking the lead, they nail a shot to distance themselves just a bit again.

Ovalle hits a couple of free throws to give us the lead 62-61 with 9:40 left. Our defense has been much better, as Charleston hasn't had nearly the success from three. We're also already in the bonus, which always helps.

We lead by as many as 5, but a Bowser three and a Paz jumper suddenly has them back in front, and we trail 68-69 with 5:52 left. I call timeout. Gentile is up to 24 points, but has to come out for a breather before the media timeout. Gordon has 14 and has had a nice game as well.

A Gordon steal and breakaway dunk forces Charleston to call timeout and it puts us ahead 75-72 with 3:37 left. Bowser has had an impact in the 2nd half and has 18 points after spending most of the 1st half on the bench.

After we miss a couple of opportunities to extend the lead, Bowser makes us pay with a 3 that ties it at 75 with 2:30 left. Our next possession we turn it over and Bowser comes right back with another 3 and now we're down 75-78 with 2:05 left. I call timeout.

Gordon gets fouled but only knocks down 1 free throw. Charleston answers with a basket. They come out in the press and Bowser rips Gentile but be blows the dunk on the other end, and we still have a chance trailing 76-80 with 1:13 left.

Bratcher misses a 3 on one end, and Bowser nails one more three to put the nail in it and the final score ends up being College of Charleston 83 - Hampton 78 We had a chance to win this game, but our offense sputtered a bit at the end and Bowser shot his team over the top with a 7-10 performance from beyond the arc.

Gentile and Gordon were both great, but we just couldn't stop them enough times on the other end.

        1968-1969 Game 10

        December 17th, 1968 at Maryland Terrapins (5-3)
        Location: College Park, Maryland
        Conference: Atlantic Coast Conference
        1967-1968 record: 22-10 (11-5)
Postseason: Lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament to (15) San Diego State, 81-89.

Maryland is an 82 prestige team that was the victim of the biggest upset in the tournament last year. Maryland has been a strong program for most of their history, they have 47 appearances all time, which is 9th all-time. They were the champions in 1916-17. They currently are on a bit of a lull, and they've only had limited (to their standards) success in the 50's and 60's. They have made the tournament 3 years in a row.

They got off to a nice start, winning their opening season tournament and were 4-0 to begin the year. Then the injuries struck. They've lost two in a row, on the road at independent Shippensburg and at home against Coppin State, and they lost to a bad Coppin State team by 16. Due to the injuries, we have a decent chance to pick up a win against a power 5 opponent.

The Terrapins were ranked at one point this season, but they've hit been hit hard by the injury bug early on and have 3 players out for this game and 2 of them starters. Crosson and Sobel are the two starters.

PG: Prewitt, 6'0", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 12.8 a game as a freshman. He's better suited at the 2, where he can play off the ball and hunt his shot. He's a poor defender.

SG: Castle, 6'8", Sophomore: Played 9 minutes a game last year. Big wing that defends well and will contribute offensively. Starting due to injuries.

SF: Hughes, 6'8", Freshman: Very talented freshman who can score from every level and is 18-40 start the year from three. He's a horrendous defender and even worse on the glass.

PF: Wells, 6'7", Freshman: Getting his first collegiate start in this game. He's talented offensively and plays solid defense for a freshman. Gets pushed around on the glass, though.

C: Norton, 6'9", Freshman: 4 star recruit and ranked #27 last year. Norton is a very talented big man that is likely going to be a one and done player at Maryland. He's averaged 11 and 7 on good percentages so far and looks to be a top 10 pick next year. He's just average defensively, but he does everything else you want your big man to do.

Bench: With the injuries, their bench depth has really been tested, so much that 5'10" freshman guard Gaston is their first guy off the bench. He's a pesky defender that can't be relied on for too much more. Burns is a walk-on guard who can shoot it a little. Another walk-on, the 6'9" Leffler, is the main post off the bench, and he resembles a walk-on. He does a solid job rebounding.

Coach: Bradly D'andrea, 49 years old. 273-161 career record. 4th season at Maryland.

A top notch coach that does everything to the max except coach offense. Found success at all of his previous stops (going backwards in time), Cornell, Texas Southern and Arkansas-Monticello. Easily the best coach we've faced so far.

They've got a very young, but talented starting lineup and really, a very weak bench due to all of their injuries. They will probably just brute force out-talent me, but if we can get fortunate with some fouls and get some of their walk-on reserves in the game, we could cause them some problems.

          1968-1969 Game 10 Results

Everyone is 100% and healthy for the game. We start out in our matchup zone.

We get off to an excellent start offensively and at the 11:55 mark, we're up 18-12. Gentile and Bratcher have evenly split all of our points. Hughes for Maryland already has 2 fouls and so does his backup Gaston. They've currently got two walk-ons in the game.

8:02 left, and we've cooled off, and our lead is now just 20-18.

We battle back and forth next handful of minutes, with Gentile and Bratcher still carrying the load offensively, combining for 28 points, Gentile with 16 of them. With 1:59 left, Fowler goes down with an injury and has to leave the game and won't return. We trail 32-33. Hughes for Maryland has 3 fouls. We have some foul trouble ourselves, Gordon and Bowie both have 2.

At half time the score is Maryland 35 - Hampton 34. Gentile and Bratcher are still at 16 and 12, Gordon is at 0. The freshman post Norton has 10 and 5 for the Terps, while Prewitt is at 10, 3 and 3. Fouls are the key here, will toy with the offensive settings to try to keep those walk-ons in the game for Maryland.

A Hughes steal and layup gives Maryland the lead 39-38 with 12:36 and I call timeout. We are shooting a ton of threes, and nothing I seem to do is changing that. We're only at 20%, 4-20. But, most importantly, we're not going to draw any fouls shooting threes. There still hasn't been a media time out, so we will get two in very quick succession soon.

Stansbury finally gets a couple of shots to go, including a three that makes Maryland call timeout with 9:04 left, and with us on top 45-39.

Gentile draws a foul at the 2:45 mark, and we lead 56-52. Gentile is up to 20 points, but it was Stansbury and Ceja who have played well down the stretch to get a few baskets to help us maintain this lead.

Gordon draws a foul the next possession and we're in the one-and-one, he sinks both to have us a 6 point lead with 2:16 left.

Hughes (with 4 fouls) puts up a 3 and misses it, but Castle tips it in, to cut our lead back to 4 with 1:41 left.

They foul Gordon again, and this time he only gets one of two.

Prewitt hits a short jumper with 1:02 left to make it 59-56 I don't think they will foul this possession, so we'll probably have to get a basket if we want to to win this game.

Gentile takes it himself to the left baseline and nails a short jumper, to get our lead back to 5 with 37 seconds left. He has 22 points.

Maryland has a super lengthy possession before Castle buries a three with 1 second left, to bring them within 2, but the game is effectively over. They manage to foul Gentile in the one second remaining, he makes them both and makes the final score just a bit prettier. Final score: Hampton 63 - Maryland 59.

Even with their depth issues and injury issues, this is a marquee win for my first year at Hampton. When Maryland gets their players back, they'll be a decent ACC team, I think, and will easily be our best win, RPI wise, of the season.

Gentile was deadly and ended up with 24 points on just 14 shots. Bratcher started off hot but ended with just 14 points. Stansbury had a key stretch in the 2nd half. Fowler's injury is fairly serious and he'll miss almost three weeks. Hackney will see more time again at the 3.

              1968-1969 Game 11

December 22nd, 1968 at Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (3-6)
              Location: Cookeville, Tennessee
              Conference: Ohio Valley
              1967-1968 record: 14-17 (9-11)
              Postseason: None

Tennessee Tech (Tech) is a 34 prestige school that has always hovered around the middle of the Ohio Valley, with just 4 regular season conference championships all time, but several .500 or above seasons. Their best season is easily the 1945-46 squad that made the tournament as an at-large, and then made it to the 2nd round of the tournament. Still their only NCAA appearance in their history.

Tech hasn't played anyone too tough yet, Middle Tennessee State a middling Sun Belt team, has been their toughest opponent. They are on a two game losing streak. Most recently, they lost to UNC Asheville at home 70-61. The same UNC Asheville that beat us 78-62 at their place.

PG: Cosby, 6'0", Senior: Walk-on who has hardly played until the season. Good shooter who does have some passing ability, 3 assists a game so far. But is a horrible defender and a weak player overall. No clue why he's starting, really. As you'll see later.

SG: Tircuit, 6'2", Junior: JUCO sharpshooter who is pretty much just a spot up shooter right now. Doesn't defend, but could get away with playing some point if necessary.

SF: Sundberg, 6'6", Junior: Started last year and averaged 8.5 and 6.4. Good three point shooter who helps out on the glass. He's the best perimeter defender in the starting lineup, but that is not saying much at all.

PF: Sheffield, 6'9", Sophomore: Played just 150 minutes total last year. He's a talented offensive player, putting in 12 a game this season. Is active on the offensive glass, and is rebounding well despite his ratings this season. Poor defender.

C: Smith, 6'9", Junior: Started last year and averaged 4.5 and 4.6. Solid defender with some skills. Rebounds a little, passes a little, steps out and shoots it poorly a little.

Bench: Alonso is the mystery. He started last year and scored 19 a game in 33 minutes. This year he's averaging 20.6 a game in 23 minutes. No clue why he's not in the lineup over Cosby, and putting Tircuit at point. Alonso is a horrible defender, rebounder and is very turnover prone. He's nothing but pure offense. Miranda is a juco point guard that I'd probably play over Cosby as well, but he's not much. Want is 6'9" and has some offensive talent, but is a horrid defender.

Joseph Jernigan, 45 years old. 17-23 career record. 2nd season at Tennessee Tech.

Good scout, really bad coach. Spent 5 seasons at a solid Iona program before picking up the Tech job, likely won't last long. Not cut out to be a head coach at any level.

We can certainly play with these guys. They can be pretty inefficient offensively, and we should be able to score on this cavalcade of weak defenders. I think I'm getting false hopes after the Maryland win, I have to remember they lost to two horrible teams right before they lost to us.

                1968-1969 Game 11 Results

First media timeout is at 14:15 and we lead 13-11. Gordon has 8 early points. We've got their front line in some foul trouble already, which is good because their reserve posts are very bad.

Gentile completes a 3 point play to get him to 7 points, and the game to a media timeout at 7:06 and we trail 24-26. I was ripping on Cosby in the preview and the walk-on of course leads Tech with 12 points. We're 1-11 from three, which will surely improve.

Last media time out of the half and we trail 30-35 with 3:55 left. We're facing foul trouble as Bowie, Neff and Bratcher all have 2 fouls. But, those three players are a combined 2-15, so maybe it's a good thing. Gentile and Stansbury have hit a few shots and have 7 and 4 points respectively.

We have a flurry of points right before half time and it brings us within 1. Halftime score: Tennessee Tech 40 - Hampton 39 Gentile is up to 13 points very quickly. Hackney has a season high 6 points off the bench. On the downside, Bratcher and Bowie, my two Jans, both returned with 2 fouls and both picked up their 3rd.

Neff picks up two quick fouls and his 4th brings us to the first media time out, 15:40, and we lead 45-43. Gentile's at 16 and Bratcher has hit a couple of shots and has 10 points to go with 5 boards.

Hackney hits his first three of the year and is followed by a Stansbury dunk and Tech has to call timeout at the incredulity. There's 12:12 left and we lead 59-51.

7:39 left and it looks like we might be on our way to a victory. We lead 68-54. The story this game is Hackney, who already easily eclipsed his season high of 3, but has now gone past his career high of 12. He's at 13 and is going to stay on the court for a bit.

Last media timeout at 3:31 and we're up 77-57 Gentile is up to 21 points. Our starters are about to start coming out. Bowie is the first to come out, he's having a horrible game, just 1-10 from the field.

The depths of the bench straggle in and take care of this one and the final score is an aesthetically pleasing Hampton 80 - Tennessee Tech 57. We trailed by one at half. Hackney picks up the player of the game award, with help from his 4 steals. Tech had 21 turnovers, but 12 of them were unforced. They were also 13-28 from the line. We out shot them 71-47. Hard for us to lose when we have those numbers working in our favor.

We are now 6-5 and above .500 for the first time all season.

December 27th, 1968 vs Florida Tech Panthers (2-11)
                  Location: Melbourne, Florida
                  Conference: Independent
                  1967-1968 record: 8-21
                  Postseason: None

Florida Tech is a 17 prestige team that came into the NCAA in 1949-1950. They've had little success since joining, with but one 20 win season (1962-63). They should be a team that finds success eventually, being in talent-rich Florida. But, Florida's got tons of teams, so maybe it is a bit over saturated. A 2-11 record doesn't leave much for us to talk about They are on an 8 game losing streak, and haven't won a game since November 28th t UNC Asheville (who we lost to at the same place). They have a very hard time scoring the ball and have had a lot of games in the 40's and 50's and even one in the 30's.

PG: Lopez, 6'0", Senior: Started last year and averaged 8.5 a game, the same amount as this year. Not a great passer, and struggles shooting the ball. Defense isn't much either. Hell of a free throw shooter, though.

SG: Dearborn, 6'3", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 8.1 points. Good outside shooter, though is percentages could be better. Okay defender.

SF: Byerly, 6'8", Sophomore: Played 6 minutes a game last year. Better suited as a stretch 4, and will play a lot of 4 in this game.

PF: Alexander, 6'8", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 8 and 6. Good looking young post with some real offensive talent. 12.2 points a game this year and should put up solid numbers the next few seasons.

C: Ross, 6'9", Sophomore: Played 13 minutes a game last year. Good rebounder with some range to his game, though he's a career 7-50 from beyond the arc. So, I hope he keeps shooting them.

Bench: Bigley is a true freshman and very similar to the starting point guard Lopez. Just slightly worse. Cornett is a sophomore post that seems 18 minutes a game, where he can stretch the floor and help out a bit on the glass. Diaz is a freshman guard with a nice mid-range game that has gotten a couple of starts this season. Jones will see a few minutes in the post, he can score a little but gets pushed around on the glass.

Coach: Conrad Smith, 60 years old. 212-355 career record. 19th season at Florida Tech.

He's the only coach they've ever had. But, it's probably time to move on. He's a solid recruiter and good defensive coach and really, about as good as a team like Florida Tech could hope for.

This is a horrible offensive team, and as long as we don't completely go ice cold from three, we should be able to take care of them somewhat easily.

                    1968-1969 Game 12 Results

We're lucky Florida Tech is so bad. First media timeout is at 15:02 and it's tied up 4-4. We're missing shots left and right, but so are they and we're bound to knock in a few threes before too long. Gentile has all 4 points. Bratcher is already 0-4 from the field. Neff has 2 fouls.

Jumping pretty far ahead to 4:41. Bratcher finally hits a 3 on his 6th attempt, and it gives us the lead 24-20 and Florida Tech calls timeout. There was a stretch there where we couldn't stop Florida Tech and they scored on four straight possessions, and we switched to man defense.

It's been an exceptionally ugly game so far and the half time score is Hampton 29 - Florida Tech 27. We aren't playing very well at all, but the team we are playing is so bad that we are still winning by two. Bratcher has 10 points on 11 shots. Gentile and Gordon both are at 5. Neff picked up his 3rd the moment after I brought he and his 2 fouls in. The bench only scored 2 points combined in the 1st half. Have to get some contribution from them each game.

We jump out to a nice start and when the first media time out buzzes at 15:29, we lead 37-29. Bratcher has a couple of buckets and quickly has 15. Gordon nailed a three pointer at the beginning of the half as well.

We lead by 9 at one point, but Byerly for Tech goes on a nice run all by himself, at at the 11:24 mark, we lead 43-40. Byerly suddenly has 10 points and 11 boards.

A Florida Tech turnover, their 10th, brings us to a media timeout with 7:01 and the score is 50-42. Hackney hit a three and has 3 boards as well off the bench. Gordon is in double figures with 10 points.

I call timeout with 3:00 on the clock to make a few subs with our lead at 52-46. This has just been a disastrous game offensively. I'm just hoping to hold onto the lead for 3 more minutes and just get a notch in the victory column.

And that's just what we do. Hampton doesn't score another point and we throw a few on the pile to make our score look just a bit more acceptable. Final score: Hampton 57 - Florida Tech 46. A very unpleasant game. We actually shot the ball well from three, but were 9-27 inside the arc. Bratcher and Gentile were both inefficient. I said it earlier, but we play anyone with a pulse and we get smoked.

                      December 30th, 1968 vs Furman Paladins (7-2)
                      Location: Greenville, South Carolina
                      Conference: Southern
                      1967-1968 record: 19-12 (10-6)
Postseason: Lost in the 1st round of the CBI

Furman is a 23 prestige school that has had a few solid decades in their history. From 1939-1955, they only missed the postseason two times. 8 NCAA appearances all time, none since 1950-51.

They are off to a great start, though they haven't played any really tough teams. They have an excellent point differential and their startinglineu has fantastic +/- numbers. They've got a potential lottery pick on their team, which obviously is rare for a Southern Conference team.

PG: Runion, 6'1", Senior: Started two years ago, but hardly played last season. He's a solid guard that will do a little bit of everything, and has no real weaknesses to his game, but isn't spectacular anywhere either.

SG: Urena, 6'2", Senior: 3 year starter. Really good three point shooter that doesn't do a whole lot more than fire up threes each game, but he's good at it. Excellent athlete as well.

SF: Alfaro, 6'7", Freshman: If the Pro Prospects page is to be believed, he'll be a lottery pick next year. He's averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds on decent percentages, and he's got talent for sure, but top 10 pick?! He's a weak defender, doesn't rebound well and can't play anything but the 3. But, as he develops he'll be a big time scorer. Poor Furman to lose a guy ranked in the #400's after just one year.

PF: Rodrigues, 7'0", Junior: Played 16 minutes a game last year and averaged 5.5 and 3.6. Score some inside and will block a shot, but doesn't play much defense or rebound.

C: Thomas, 6'11", Junior: Started last year and averaged 7.7 and 6.2. Slightly better version of Rodrigues. Scores some inside, rebounds okay. Poor defender that will block a shot.

Bench: Risley is a walk-on with a very nice shooting stroke at 6'1". Chalfant is a big wing at 6'8" that started last year and played 30 minutes a game until the arrival of Alfaro. He averaged 10 and 6 last season and is scoring the ball well so far this year. Garcia is a senior and very similar to Furman's starting posts. A lot of redundancy in the Furman front court.

Coach: Anton Penner, 56 years old. 78-59 career record. 5th season at Furman.

Tremendous scout and offensive coach who is a flat zero in recruiting. Spent time at programs like Tennessee, Louisville and Arizona as an assistant before getting the Furman gig.

They've got a dangerous backcourt that could light us up. Their posts score enough to keep you honest and they've got offensive talent coming off the bench. There is a reason they are 7-2, despite their shoddy non-conference schedule. We'll have our hands full with these guys.

                        1968-1969 Game 13 Results

Fowler is healed enough that he can play, but he's still in the 70% range, so he won't likely see the court in this one.

We start the game off hitting some three pointers and when Bratcher sinks one with 13:22 left, it makes Furman call time-out with us leading 14-8.Gordon already has 10 points and a couple of three pointers while Bratcher has the other 4.

With 6:48 left, we lead 29-24. Hackney has 5 points off the bench and he's been playing well the last few games. Gentile picked up his 2nd foul and will sit for the rest of the half if possible.

We briefly give up the lead, but play well leading into intermission, the score: Hampton 44 - Furman 39. Gordon picked up 2 fouls right after the last update, but when both Gentile and Gordon were both on the bench, our offense really stalled. I put them both back in with 3 minutes left, and we started playing much better. Neither fouled going into half.

First media time out at 15:53, and it's all tied up at 50. I'm switching out of man and going to zone, to see if that slows down their hot start. Urena, their three point shooter, only has 5 points. Alfaro, the phenom, has been impressive and has 14 points. Neff rapidly picked up 3 fouls and now has 4 and will be sitting for a while.

We haven't scored since the last update, and with 11:48 we trail 50-58. Gentile only has 2 points, and it'd be nice if he could get going and we can get back in it.

Things have fallen apart. With 6:29 left, we trail 59-72. Rodrigues and Thomas have slowly put together a very good line, 26 points and 13 rebounds combined. We just quit hitting shots. Gordon's the only perimeter player having even a decent game, and he scored most of his points in the first 5 minutes and hasn't done much since.

By the end, Furman was just too much for me. They got good performances from their front line and Alfaro and they end our 3 game winning streak. Final score: Furman 79 - Hampton 67.

William and Mary (W&M) is a 41 prestige school that has been fairly competitive for the last 40 years after a rough 20 or so to start its history. They made a Sweet Sixteen in 1944-1945 and have 6 NCAA appearances the last being in 1955-56.

They are on a 5 game losing streak currently, the last 4 being on the road. 3 of them being against the A-10. When they were 6-1 once upon a time, they largely did it beating up on some pretty weak teams.

PG: Williams, 5'11", Freshman: Good offensive guard who is more of an undersized 2 than anything. Averaging just under 12 a game.

SG: Pacheco, 6'2", Freshman: Another promising young guard. Defends quite a bit better than Williams, and creates for others better than him too.

SF: Gilman, 6'5", Sophomore: Transfer from Buffalo who didn't plan a second there to play nearly 30 minutes a game at W&M. Tough on the offensive glass and good enough offensively to contribute 11 a game. Average, versatile defender.

PF: Alemida, 6'10", Senior: Started last year and averaged 6.7 and 7.4. Solid defender and good on the offensive glass, shooting a very high percentage so far this year, 59%.

C: Freeman, 6'11", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 5 and 8. Averaging 7 and 9 this year. Good defender that can block shots. Another good offensive rebounder. They are 22nd in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage as a team. Pretty tough.

Bench: Plowman adds another very good offensive rebounder at 6'11". He's as bad as you can get offensively, though. Bogle is a good 3 and D guy off the bench. Ulloa is the backup point guard and he does a decent job and shoots well enough to keep teams honest.

Coach: Charlie Chambless, 67 years old. 235-235 career record. 2nd season at William & Mary.

Excellent floor coach, but weak recruiter who is an even .500 as a head coach. Was a long time assistant until the 53-54 season, when he got a job with Texas - Permian Basin, eventually turning that into the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi job where he won a conference championship in 65-66.

They've got some solid pieces and will be a tough matchup at their place. I'll start off in zone, but their offensive rebounding capabilities are a concern, and a guy like Ovalle might need to play quite a bit to battle them on the glass.

                            1968-1969 Game 14 Results

This is the last non-conference game before MEAC play starts, and going into it 8-6 looks a lot better than 7-7!

Not the best start, the second media time out is at 11:16 and we trail 9-20. All we have are three shots from beyond the arc, two by Gentile and one by Gordon. Pacheco for W&M is lighting me up and has 11 already. Bowie's already got 2 fouls.

We were on the verge of being blown out, but recover a bit and with 3:14 left, we've cut their lead to 20-30. Hackney again has been a spark off the bench with 4 points and a rebound in just a few minutes.

W&M continues to hit threes and the half time score is a not-so-pretty William and Mary 38 - Hampton 24. By the end of the half, Gordon and Bratcher both had 2 fouls as well. But, our offense is really struggling and we're lucky we are even with 14.

13:57 left, we're trailing 39-51. Bratcher has a few baskets in the second half, highlighted by completing a 4 point play after being fouled. Gordon has 3 fouls.

We've inched closer, 46-51 with 11:29 left, but we should be even closer as we've had a few opportunities to cut the lead more and haven't capitalized. Bratcher is up to 18 points. Stansbury has been active in the 2nd half and has 7 points and 2 steals.

It gets away from us a little bit and with 7:01 left we're down 52-60. Pacheco is up to 20 for W&M and they are shooting 50% from beyond the arc.

Gentile sinks a 3 with 3:53 left to bring the score to 59-63. Gentile's exhausted and is going so sit down just for minute until the incoming media time out. He's up to 13 points.

We have improved on the glass the last 10 minutes and actually have overtaken them in rebounds after being down quite a bit early. One reason is Ovalle who has 5 rebounds including a putback dunk with 3:19 left to bring us with in 2.

W&M hits a free throw to go up by 3, but Gentile sinks a game tying three pointer with 1:55 left and it's all tied up at 65.

We force a shot clock violation on them the next possession and we have the ball in a tie game with 1:18 left.

We turn it over and foul them on a dunk attempt on the other end, Bogle, their reserve guard goes 1 of 2 from the line, and we trail by 1 with 1:08 left. Bowie of all guys shoots a 3 the next time down, misses it of course. Then Bowie turns around and fouls (his 5th) W&M's Almeida on a shot attempt to send him to the line.

Almeida is a 68% free throw shooter this season. He gets one of two. We're down 64-66 with 25 seconds left. I call timeout. The last thing I want is a Neff three pointer, so I bring Hackney in at the 4. Ideally this possession ends with one of Gordon, Gentile or Bratcher shooting a three pointer to take the lead.

Indeed it does, Bratcher immediately fires up a three and drains it to give us the lead 67-66 with 20 seconds left. Bratcher now has 21 points.

Pacheco misses a three at the buzzer and we steal a very solid road win. Final score: Hampton 67 - William & Mary 66. Bratcher with the late game heroics and the overall strong game get him a well-deserved player of the game. The freshman has had some horrible shooting games, but he's averaging 14.6 points and shooting 34% from three on a pretty high volume. He's going to be a stud in a couple of years. Ovalle gave us good minutes, while Neff had an ugly game, jacking up 5 three pointers. He's now 3-28 from beyond the arc this season. Williams and Pacheco are going to be a very strong backcourt very soon.

Great way to head into conference play.

PG: Million, 6'3", Freshman: Freshman with a nice jump shot and is more of a combo guard than a true point. Okay defender, will be a good player in this league.

SG: Beveridge, 6'2", Junior: Played 17 minutes a game last year and scored 6 a game. Good three point shooter and average defender. At 11.7 a game this year.

SF: Berndt, 6'10", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 6 and 7.
Really big wing who would be better served at the 4. Scoring the ball inside well after a very poor season last year percentage wise. Was 6-46 from three last year and is 19-52 this season.

PF: Welty, 6'8", Senior: 3 year starter. Averaged 12.8 and 6.8 last season. Good offensive big man with a legit three point shot. Was 39-93 last year from beyond the arc. Not shooting the ball as well so far this season. But, he's very productive and is always a double double threat.

C: Dorn, 6'9", Sophomore: Started 8 games last year and averaged 4.6 and 3.4. Solid big man who's already pretty well maxed out developmentally. Scores some inside and helps on the glass. Just competent across the board.

Bench: Spell is a 6'10" junior who is a very strong rebounder and solid defender with not much of an offensive game. Flint is a freshman point guard that has pretty solid point guard skills for a freshman, but is already very developed and won't get much better than this. Nester is 6'6" and shoots the three ball and rebounds well from the wing.

Coach: Dwain McAbee, 53 years old. 95-83 career record. 6th season at North Carolina A&T.

Defensive whiz, maxed out, doesn't do much else well. Was an assistant at North Carolina for 3 years before getting the head job in Greensboro.

They have no real weak spots in their lineup offensively, everyone can score. They haven't shot the ball well from three, so we'll start out in zone and see how it goes. Fowler is back 100% for us, I'm not sure how much he'll play. Hackney will still be the first off the bench out of the two, for now.

Both teams are sluggish to start the game off and we trail 3-5 with 15:58 left. Gordon with one make from beyond the arc are our only points. On the bright side, NA&T already has 5 team fouls.

Jumping ahead to 7:08 left and we trail 11-21. Offensively, we've been locked down the whole game. Bratcher, Neff and Bowie all have 2 fouls. Gentile and Stansbury both have 4 points, and including the first paragraph of this post, you know where all 11 of our points have come from.

We finally get a little offense going at the end to battle back to only get within 13. It was 13-32 at one point. But the half time score is North Carolina A&T - Hampton 21. Gentile hit a three and has 7 points to lead the team. Bratcher picked up his 3rd foul after returning with about 3 minutes left. Berndt leads the Aggies with 11.

Poor job updating this game by me. But, it's just been uneventful. A lot of missed shots by me and the Aggies just keeping me comfortably at arm's length. With 9:38 left, we trail 32-46.

We go 5-23 from beyond the arc for the game and it's why we lose by the final score North Carolina A&T 63 - Hampton 49.
We got beat up on the glass. Welty had 16 point and 13 boards, even though he was just 5-17. A lot of bad lines in my box score. Gordon was one rebound short of a double double. Hackney had 6 boards in 9 minutes. Maybe he should have played more.
